Abstract

The Industrial Revolution 4.0 era marks the beginning of the integration of technology in various aspects of human life, including in the study of the interpretation of the Qur’an. One of the manifestations is the emergence of various digital-based Qur'an interpretation products. This phenomenon is interesting to study, especially from a scientific point of view. Two sites that stand out in presenting digital interpretation products are tafsir.web.id and tafsirq.com. These two sites offer a variety of features and interpretations sourced from print interpretations of classical, medieval, and modern-contemporary scholarly works. This article analyzes the similarities and differences between the two interpretation products through a comparative study approach. The research questions asked include: What are the reference sources used by the tafsir.web.id and tafsirq.com sites? And what are the advantages and disadvantages of the features offered by these two sites? The research results show: First, tafsir.web.id refers to Tafsir Kalām al-Mannān, Tafsir Jalālain, Tafsir Anwārul Hilālain fī Ta'qubāt 'alā Jalālain, and Tafsir Ibn Kathīr, while tafsirq.com only refers to the DSN MUI fatwa. Second, the advantages and disadvantages of the two sites complement each other; for example, features such as digital Al-Qur'an mushafi, ulama fatwas, daily prayers, and wisdom stories are available on tafsir.web.id, but not on tafsirq.com. However, neither do not yet provide a feature to guide the knowledge of tajwid and murattal Al-Qur'an. Hopefully, this article can be a reference for the public to get to know online tafsir and a source for studying the Qur’an and other Islamic sciences.

Abstract

This article aims to reveal the implementation of the Qur'anic values indoctrination program at MTs Miftahul Falaah as an effort to develop character-based education in the madrasah. In their daily activities, students are required to participate in various activities that internalize the values of the Qur'an, including duha prayer, congregational zuhr prayer, recitation of Surah Yasin and several short surahs in class, study sessions of the book Waṣaya al-Abā’i li al-Abnā’i as well as Quranic reading and writing learning (BTQ). These habits are carried out according to a predetermined schedule, except for congregational prayers which are performed daily. This study focuses on two aspects: the implementation of Qur'anic values and their role in shaping the religious character of students.  Therefore, this research aims to reveal religious routines which are part of the living Qur'an phenomenon in the context of the educational environment, specifically in MTs Miftahul Falaah. The study involves field research and is examined using the living Qur'an approach. The results of this research indicate that the application of Qur'anic values in the environment of MTs Miftahul Falaah is a conscious and planned effort to prepare students to recognize, understand, internalize, and practice the values contained in the Qur'an. This initiative significantly contributes to the development of students' religious character by instilling obedience to Islamic teachings, be tolerant, and possess noble manners (akhlāk al-karīmah).

Abstract

The concept of prophethood in Islam is important because believing in prophets and messengers of God is one of the pillars of faith that Muslims must believe in. Ahmadiyah is an Islamic movement with a unique interpretation style, especially its concept of khātaman nabiyyīn. This research uses qualitative research methods with the type of library research. Ahmadiyya is divided into two groups, namely Qodian and Lahore. The Qodian group believes that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad is a Prophet, while the Lahore group only understands Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as a reformer. In general, Ahmadiyya has a concept of prophethood where there are prophets who bring Sharia and prophets who do not bring Sharia. Prophethood that does not bring new sharia has been possible throughout the ages. Ahmadiyya still believes that Prophet Muhammad was the last prophet who brought the Shari'ah. The word "khātam" has many meanings, including ring, seal, and seal. The phrase "khātamun nabiyyin" still hints that there is still an opening for prophethood that may open after the Prophet Muhammad.

Abstract

Michel Cuypers, in his book The Composition of the Qur'an: Rhetorical Analysis (2012), proposes that the Al-Qur’an is a book arranged in a very neat rhetorical series.  This is contrary to the opinion of critics of the Qur'an, such as Voltaire, Theodor Nöldeke, Thomas Carlyle, and Richard Bell, who stated that the Qur'an is not a consistent book in its composition.  Cuypers refuted their opinion by using the Semitic rhetorical analysis method on the text of the Qur'an. They proved that the Qur'an verses were not arranged haphazardly but neatly in a ring-shaped structure (ring composition). However, Cuypers' work was criticized for positioning the Qur'an as an ordinary Semitic text, contrary to the Muslim belief that the Qur'an is a unique Arabic text.  This article criticizes the Semitic rhetorical analysis method in the Al-Qur’an by proposing a new text analysis method based on the unique language of the Al-Qur’an and the logical relationships found in its verses. Using this method, it was found that the intrinsic structure of the Qur'an is in the form of a concept tree, not in the form of a ring, as claimed by Cuypers. This finding also shows the strength of coherence in the Al-Qur’an. It can add to methods for interpreting the Al-Qur’an based on logical relationships between verses as proposed by Al Ghazali in the book Al-Qistās Al-Mustaqīm.

Abstract

This article aims to understand more deeply how surah Al-Fātiḥaḥ is perceived and functioned practically by people with hearing and speech sensory disabilities (PDSRW) at the Qur'an House of the Deaf Friends Asy-Syukur Kediri. In the Islamic tradition, surah Al-Fātiḥaḥ is believed to have great spiritual power, so it is not surprising that this surah is perceived and used in various ways by various groups. The functional reception of the Qur'an is then used to analyze the purpose of reciting surah Al-Fātiḥaḥ at RQST Asy-Syukur. This study is a field research using a qualitative approach. Data collection was done through observation, interview, and documentation. The results obtained show that the practice of reciting al-Fātiḥaḥ at RQST Asy-Syukur Kediri is carried out regularly before and after learning. The recitation of surah al-Fātiḥaḥ in this practice is used as a source of help and guidance so that students can understand and appreciate the learning process, especially in the study of the meaning of the Qur'an. Given that each santri has a different intensity of hearing and intellectual ability, this also affects their speed in capturing information. So the recitation of surah al-Fātiḥaḥ is intended to make it easier for students to understand the material presented. On the other hand, Maskurun, the caregiver of the Qur'an House, perceives surah al-Fātiḥaḥ to make it easier for him to deliver the material. In addition, surah al-Fātiḥaḥ is used as a daily practice of the santri and functions as a wirid or prayer. This research is expected to add to the richness of the living Qur'an treasure in a new dimension, namely how the Qur'anic text lives and is practiced among people with disabilities, a topic that is relatively rarely raised in Islamic studies.

Abstract

This study examines the shift in the meaning of the word zakāt in Arabic from the pre-Islamic period to the period when the Qur'an was revealed. This study refers to the book al-Taṭawwur al-Dalālī baina Lughah al-Shi’ri al-Jāhilī wa Lughah al-Qur'ān al-Karīm by ‘Ūdah Khalīl Abū ‘Ūdah which discusses terms in the Qur'an and their relationship with Jahiliyyah Arabic poetry. This research uses a descriptive-analytical method and a qualitative approach based on library research. The results of this study show that there are two main meanings of the word zakat, namely ‘increase or merit’ as the basic meaning during the Jahiliyyah (ma’nā lughawī) and ‘worship obligation to spend wealth’ as the new meaning introduced by the Qur’an (ma’nā iṣṭilāḥī). This shift in meaning not only affected the language but also affected the mindset, behavior, and social system of the Arab community, which was previously more individualistic to collective solidarity-based. Thus, the meaning of zakāt in the Qur'an reflects a significant moral and social transformation, making zakāt the main instrument in building the welfare of the people.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the symbolic meaning of QS al-Fīl uses Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic approach, focusing on sign, signifier, and signified concepts. In QS al-Fīl, the historical narrative of the attempted destruction of the Kaaba by the army of elephants carries a symbolic dimension that illustrates God's power and the downfall of human arrogance. This qualitative study employs a library research approach and a qualitative-descriptive method. It identifies the linguistic elements in the surah as a system of signs and explores the relationship between linguistic aspects and contextual meaning. The analysis reveals that every word and phrase in QS al-Fīl contains symbols representing divine power and moral messages for humankind. In QS al-Fīl, the prominent signs include elements such as the army of elephants, the Abābīl birds, stones of burning clay, and leaves devoured by insects. Semiotic analysis suggests that these elements' signifiers (words) refer to tangible historical meanings. In contrast, the signified conveys deeper meanings, such as the manifestation of divine power, the collapse of tyranny, and the protection of the Kaaba. Furthermore, the relationship between signifier and signified in QS al-Fīl is shaped by the narrative sequence, which enhances the moral message of the surah. The study also examines the linguistic structure through the concepts of langue and parole, where classical Arabic language patterns and distinctive vocabulary are employed to depict the grandeur of the event while demonstrating the powerful use of language. Then, this study contributes to the development of a semiotic-based methodology for interpreting the Qur’an.

Abstract

This paper attempted to examine the nature of maḥabbah to Allah and His Messenger from the perspective of al-Sha’rāwī. There are two essential things to be studied in depth through one figure in this paper, including how the position of maḥabbah in the Qur'an and how Sheikh Muhammad Mutawallī Al-Sha'rāwī reveals the nature of maḥabbah in his tafsir, Tafsīr al-Sha'rāwī. The study includes thematic research on the verses of the Qur'an based on the interpretation of the character in his tafsir work. This research consists of a literature study that makes Tafsīr al-Sha'rāwī a primary source and literature related to the research topic as a secondary source. The data obtained is then analysed descriptively and analytically.  The results reveal that al-Sha'rāwī places the position of maḥabbah in the Qur'an to be the highest level above all because love for Allah, namely maḥabbatullah, can be used as a reminder to doing good deeds and being able to leave bad things and can increase a servant's piety to Him. Al-Sha'rāwī, in revealing the essence of maḥabbah in his tafsir, provides an illustration in which a believer must always be connected to Allah Most High and put his trust in Him alone because a believer knows that putting trust in Allah means that the limbs work and the heart trusts.

Abstract

This study examines the interpretation of the meaning of the ‘aqīqah hadith using the hermeneutic approach of Muhammad Syahrur's hudud theory. The study analyzes the understanding of hadiths about ‘aqīqah narrated in the primary hadith collections, using the theoretical framework of boundaries (naẓariyyat al-hudūd) developed by Muhammad Syahrur. Through a qualitative research method with a library approach, this study reveals that interpreting the aqiqah hadith from the perspective of Syahrur's hudud theory results in a more contextual and flexible understanding. This theory views the stipulation of aqiqah animals (two for boys and one for girls) as the maximum limit (ḥadd al-a'lā), not a rigid requirement. The timing of the aqiqah is also understood more flexibly within the minimum boundary (ḥadd al-adnā), the seventh day after birth, extending to the maximum limit adjusted to one's ability and welfare. This research contributes to a new perspective on understanding the ‘aqīqah hadith, which is more adaptive to contemporary contexts while still adhering to the principles of Sharia.
