Abstract

Coastal Fishing Port (PPP) is a landing place for fish caught by fishermen, including pelagic fish. The production of mackerel catches in the Rengas River PPP has decreased from 2012 to 2021. Due to the decline in mackerel fish catch production, research related to the reproduction of mackerel is needed. The aim of this research is to analyze eating habits, TKG, IKG, and IHS. The fish sampling method was carried out using the purposive sampling method. Sampling of 20 mackerel fish is carried out once a month. Mackerel fish are carnivorous fish, which can be seen from the type of mackerel mouth, namely terminal, the shape of the mackerel fish's teeth, which are canine-like, and the fish's gill filter, which is large and has few filaments. The average length of a mackerel fish's intestines is 0.59 cm of its body length, so it is classified as a carnivorous fish. The level of maturity of male gonads was highest in TKG IV and female gonads in TKG II, the average IKG of male gonads was 0.96%, and female gonads 1.13%. The liver of female mackerel fish (Scomberomorus commerson) experiences changes in weight as measured by the Hepatosomatic Index along with increasing egg growth based on TKG.

Abstract

Water quality management is the main factor in rearing vannamei shrimp cultivation. Quality shrimp is produced from optimal water quality management. PT. Anugerah Nusantara Kraksaan is a company that operates in the field of rearing vannamei shrimp. So this research aims to determine the application of water quality management in rearing vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) at PT. Anugerah Nusantara Kraksaan, East Java Province. The research was carried out for 1 month from January to February 2025 starting from DOC 68 until DOC 96. This research was carried out on Plots G3, Plots G5, and Plots H4 with concrete construction. The fry used in the research were from PLB (Prima Larvae Bali) on Postlarva 10. Data taken on these water quality parameters were Brightness, Temperature, pH, Dissolved Oxygen, Salinity, Amonnium, Phospat, Alkalinity, and TOM. To overcome fluctuations in environmental parameters, it is necessary to change water, filter, and administer probiotics periodically until the total harvest is achieved. It can be concluded that the results of the best water quality management is in plot G3, because plot G3 can last longer, but plots H4 is the most stable for its water quality even though it ends up being affected by Infectious Myonecrosis disease.

Abstract

The sea in Indonesia covers 75% of its total land area. According to data from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (2019), Indonesia has approximately 5.8 million km² of water area out of a total territory of 7.81 million km². The biodiversity in Indonesia's coastal areas is utilized by coastal communities in their daily lives. Coastal resources also have potential in the health sector, such as seagrass, macroalgae, and taurine, which can be used as raw materials for natural medicine. The purpose of this study is to analyze the antioxidant potential based on the IC50 value of taurine, ethanol extracts of the seagrasses Enhalus acoroides and Cymodocea rotundata, as well as the macroalgae Padina australis and Sargassum duplicatum. The method used is the antioxidant activity assay using DPPH (2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl). The results of this study indicate that, after testing with DPPH, only the ethanol extract of Cymodocea rotundata had an IC50 value of < 200 µg/mL, specifically -652.95 µg/mL, whereas the IC50 values of taurine, the ethanol extract of Enhalus acoroides, and the ethanol extracts of the macroalgae Padina australis and Sargassum duplicatum were > 200 µg/mL, indicating no antioxidant activity. In conclusion, only the ethanol extract of Cymodocea rotundata has the potential to be a candidate for antioxidant raw material.

Abstract

Small-scale fishers in Bengkulu City play an important role in the production of capture fisheries, but many still live in poverty and face social challenges that threaten their welfare. This study aims to analyze the social resilience of small-scale fisher households and the factors that influence the social resilience of small-scale fisher households in Bengkulu City. The social resilience index of small-scale fisher households is based on four criteria, namely health, education, social capital and housing. The research location was chosen purposively, with a sample of 100 people selected using the accidental sampling method. The results showed that the social resilience index of small-scale fisher households in Bengkulu City was 66.65% because the index >50% was included in the socially resilient category with 89 households with socially resilient status. The dimensions of housing and health showed good results, while social capital and education needed to be improved. Factors that significantly influence the social resilience of small-scale fisher households in Bengkulu City are formal education, fisher income, and participation in fisher institutions. Policy implications include improving access and quality of education through training and improved facilities, as well as strengthening social capital through gotong royong and public space management. These efforts are important to sustainably improve the social resilience of fishermen.

Abstract

Cinnamon leaves contain active compounds such as polyphenols and flavonoids which have antioxidant properties and play a role in lipid metabolism processes. This active substance is known to reduce liver fat levels and has the potential to increase the immune response in catfish. This research aims to determine the effect of adding cinnamon leaf extract to feed on liver fat levels and the health of catfish. Cinnamon leaf extract was added to the feed at five different doses, namely 0 g/kg (control), 0.5 g/kg, 1 g/kg, 2 g/kg, and 4 g/kg feed. The results of the study showed that the addition of cinnamon leaf extract to the feed reduced the fat content in the liver of catfish as seen from the decrease in fat degeneration in the liver of catfish compared to the control. Total erythrocytes, hemoglobin levels and hematocrit levels of fish treated with the addition of cinnamon leaf extract to the feed were lower and significantly different (P<0.05) compared to controls, but total leukocytes were not significantly different between treatment and control.

Abstract

Shrimp farming faces a major problem, which is the disease caused by Vibrio parahaemolyticus infection, leading to vibriosis and damage to the shrimp's hepatopancreas. This study aims to analyze the pathological changes that occur in the tissues and organs of vannamei shrimp due to Vibrio parahaemolyticus infection using histopathological testing methods. The research findings show that this bacterial infection causes damage to the hepatopancreas, including hemocyte infiltration, melanization, sloughing, necrosis, and bacterial colonization. This damage is caused by toxins produced by Vibrio parahaemolyticus, leading to the degeneration of cells and tissues. This study provides important information that can be used to develop prevention and treatment strategies for diseases in vannamei shrimp farming, as well as enhance understanding of the impact of bacterial infection on the hepatopancreas organ of shrimp.

Abstract

The fisheries industry, especially in the processing of lemuru fish, has various work risks that can affect the safety and health of workers. These risks include the use of sharp tools, exposure to chemicals, slippery work environments, and the potential for injury due to intensive production processes. Therefore, the implementation of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) is a crucial aspect in ensuring a safe, efficient, and productive work environment. However, in practice, there are still various obstacles in the implementation of OHS, such as lack of worker awareness, limited safety facilities, and a less-than-optimal supervision system. This study aims to analyze the implementation of OHS in the processing of lemuru fish at XYZ Company, Jembrana, and to identify obstacles and optimize strategies. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with observation techniques, interviews, and SWOT analysis of OHS policies. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of K3 has been running well through the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), compliance with work procedures, and the implementation of safety standards. To be able to optimize this activity, it can be done through increased training, routine supervision, and the use of IoT-based technology for monitoring the work environment. Computer-based OHS management systems, Virtual Reality (VR) technology for simulation, and automation of high-risk processes with robotics can also be applied to reduce work accidents. Data analysis with machine learning also helps in risk prediction. These implementation strategies can improve work safety, create a safer and more comfortable work environment, and increase the competitiveness of the industry in the global market.
