Abstract

TPI Pangandaran is a fishing base with the highest fish landing productivity in Pangandaran Regency, one of the commodities landed is jerbung shrimp (Fenneropenaeus merguiensis). High demand for jerbung shrimp leads to increased fishing intensity, so an analysis of sustainable potential is needed to maintain the sustainability of jerbung shrimp. Analysis of sustainable potential with the Maximum Sustainable Yeield (MSY) approach is important to maintain the sustainability of shrimp resources. The purpose of this study was to analyze the value of CPUE, FPI, and MSY of jerbung shrimp. The method used to analyze the value of MSY is the surplus production method with the approach of Walter Hilborn and Schaefer. The results showed that the CPUE value fluctuated during 2017-2022, with the highest value of 88.67 kg/trip in 2018 and the lowest value of 23.44 kg/trip in 2022. The standard fishing gear with the highest value of FPI is Trammel net. The MSY value using the Schaefer method is 917,990.50  with a Total Allowable Catch (TAC) of 734,392.4 , while the Walter Hilborn method produces an MSY value of 418,065.50  with a TAC of 334,452.4 ,. The exploitation of jerbung shrimp in TPI Pangandaran is still a safe condition. The R square value with Walter Hilborn method is greater than the Schaefer method, which is 0.90254. The value of R square which is greater or close to 1 indicates that in this study the Walter Hilborn method is more relevant to determine MSY and TAC of jerbung shrimp

Abstract

Situ Cisanti has the main function which is, being utilized by the surrounding community for various activities such as plantations, fisheries and tourism activities. The many activities in Situ Cisanti have an impact on the decline in water quality in the waters of Situ Cisanti. The water quality in Situ Cisanti must meet water quality standards because Situ Cisanti is the zero point of the Citarum River so that it has a direct impact on fish farming activities and drinking water sources along the Citarum River. Determination of water quality status in a body of water can be done by several methods, one of which is the STORET Method. Through the STORET Method, the water quality status of Situ Cisanti can be determined. The method used is the survey method. Determination of sampling points is determined based on considerations of the zoning of the water body consisting of inlets, the middle of the waters and outlets. Data analysis is carried out by comparing it with water quality standards and scoring it. Based on the results, the water quality status of Situ Cisanti is categorized as "lightly to moderately polluted" with a score between -10 to -11 for class 1 water quality standards and is categorized as lightly polluted with a score of -10 for class 2 quality standards. So it can be concluded that it does not meet the quality standards set by Government Regulation Number 22 of 2021 for raw water for drinking water and fisheries activities.

Abstract

Aquaculture is one of the important sectors that fulfill the community's animal protein needs. However, the intensification of aquaculture often faces challenges such as decreasing water quality, increasing disease attacks, and suboptimal organism growth. To overcome these problems, biotechnology-grounded approaches such as the application of probiotics, prebiotics, and synbiotics have begun to be widely developed. Probiotics are living microorganisms that provide health benefits to the host by improving intestinal microflora, while prebiotics are non-digestible compounds that encourage the growth of beneficial microorganisms. The combination of the two, known as synbiotics, is believed to provide a synergistic effect in improving the health and resilience of aquatic organisms. This article reviews various research results related to the effectiveness of the use of probiotics, prebiotics, and synbiotics in improving growth performance, disease resistance, and feed efficiency in various fish and shrimp species. By implementing this strategy, sustainable aquaculture can be realized by strengthening the natural immune system and improving the balance of aquatic microbiota.

Abstract

Shrimp is among the most economically important aquaculture species globally, playing a significant role in ensuring both food and economic stability. However, the development of aquaculture, particularly shrimp farming, faces several management challenges, with disease outbreaks being a major concern. One effective strategy for disease control is maintaining shrimp health through preventive measures, such as administering immunostimulants. Natural sources of immunostimulants, especially from plants, are gaining attention. One such plant is guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), known for its rich array of bioactive compounds. Widely recognized as an ingredient in traditional bitter herbal medicine, guduchi offers various health benefits to humans and holds promise for enhancing shrimp immunity. This literature review aims to highlight the potential of guduchi as an immunostimulant for shrimp. The study applies a systematic literature review approach, involving planning, data collection, analysis, and drawing conclusions. Findings indicate that guduchi contains several compounds capable of boosting the immune response in shrimp, suggesting strong potential for further research and application in aquaculture, particularly in shrimp production

Abstract

Global warming is a phenomenon of increasing the average temperature of the earth's surface. Carbon can be stored in various forms in ecosystems, one of which is the concept of blue carbon. This research aims to analyze the condition of the mangrove ecosystem and the potential for carbon storage in the mangrove forest rehabilitation area in Sebele Village, Karimun Regency, Riau Islands. This research was conducted from October 2024 to July 2025 in the mangrove forest rehabilitation area of Sebele Village, Riau Islands Province. The method used in this research is the survey method. Standing biomass data was obtained using allometric equations. The research results show that the level of tree density in the mangrove forest rehabilitation area of Sebele Village is in the Sparse category. At the tree level, it is dominated by the Xylocarpus granatum species, while at the sapling level it is dominated by the Rhizophora mucronataspecies. The highest carbon storage value is found in the Avicennia marina species with a carbon storage value of 14.44 tons/ha. And the potential carbon storage from the calculation results obtained a carbon storage value of 61.43 tons/ha. The carbon storage value is directly proportional to the standing biomass. The greater the standing biomass, the greater the carbon stored.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an aquarium-based Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) system compared to a monoculture system. The research was conducted from November to December 2024 at the Aquaculture Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran. The experimental design used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatments and three replications, involving combinations of guppy fish (Poecilia reticulata), Egeria densa aquatic plants, Ramshorn snails (Planorbella duryi), and Orange Rili shrimp (Neocaridina davidi). Parameters observed included water quality (pH, DO, nitrate, phosphate, turbidity, temperature), organism growth, benefit-cost ratio (BCR), and aesthetic value using a 1–5 scale. The results showed that Treatment E (combining fish, plants, snails, and shrimp) provided the best performance, with the most stable water quality, highest organism growth, highest BCR, and an average aesthetic score of 4.89. The IMTA system was shown to improve resource efficiency, reduce biological waste, and enhance the visual appeal of aquarium-based aquaculture. These findings support the application of aquarium-scale IMTA as a sustainable aquaculture model that is ecologically, economically, and aesthetically adaptive.

Abstract

Catfish farming is one of the rapidly growing fisheries sectors in urban areas, including Palembang City. However, the success of this business is greatly influenced by the socio-economic conditions of the farmers. A common problem faced is the lack of information about the socio-economic characteristics of catfish farming households, which can serve as a basis for policy formulation in developing aquaculture businesses. This study aims to identify the socio-economic characteristics of catfish farming households in Palembang City. This research uses a descriptive method and collects data through questionnaires and direct interviews with farmers in the districts of Plaju, Sematang Borang, Gandus, and Sukarami. The results indicate that 63% of farmers have completed senior high school education, 43% are in the productive age range of 41–50 years, and 51% have less than 10 years of work experience. Most farmers (70%) own farming land measuring 1,100–2,000 m², classified as medium-scale enterprises. Economically, 53 respondents earn additional income from agricultural activities such as patin fish farming, while 47 respondents earn income from non-agricultural sectors. The average monthly operational cost of catfish farming reaches IDR 10,887,512, dominated by variable costs amounting to IDR 8,839,525. These findings reflect the importance of understanding socio-economic conditions in the sustainable development of catfish farming businesses.
