Abstract

Abstract

Vanamei shrimp Litopeneus vannamei is a commodity with high economic value. Shrimp is Indonesia's main export commodity. The high value of sales and production of vanamei shrimp is constrained by the many disease attacks in the vanamei shrimp farming industry. An alternative solution that has been continuously researched for several years to combat shrimp disease is using immunostimulants from natural ingredients. Using natural ingredients for immunostimulants can increase the non-specific immunity of vanamei shrimp to ward off disease and be environmentally friendly. Immunostimulants can be administered orally, by immersion, or by injection. Immunostimulants from natural ingredients such as spirulina platensis, polysaccharides from seaweed such as carrageenan, sodium alginate, and fucoidan, extracts from red seaweed, as well as the use of polysaccharides from the bacterium Nodulisporium sp. KT29, Trichoderma sp. able to increase the non-specific immune system in L. vannamei shrimp. These immunostimulants increase non-specific immunity, such as total hemocyte count, phagocytosis activity, phenoloxidase, phagocytic, respiratory burst, superoxide dismutase, and total plasma protein. Immunostimulants from these natural ingredients can also fight infectious disease attacks.

Abstract

The aquaculture field continues to grow from year to year. This is because aquaculture fulfills the world's food needs. Aquaculture intensification continues. As a result of this intensification, the aquaculture environment experienced a decrease in water quality. This led to the rapid growth of bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses, resulting in a high incidence of disease outbreaks. An alternative solution that has been extensively researched recently is using immunostimulants to increase the non-specific immunity of fish and shrimp, which will help fish and insects prevent disease outbreaks. One of the natural ingredients that have the potential to become an immunostimulant is from the brown algae group. Immunostimulants from brown algae such as Hot-water Extract of Tropical Brown Seaweed, Sargassum cristaefolium, Sargassum glaucescens, Sargassum duplicatum, Sargassum wightii, Sargassum sp. Polysaccharides from seaweed, such as fucoidan extracts from brown algae, can enhance the non-specific immune system in shrimp Litopenaneus vannamei, Penaeus monodon, Fenneropenaeus indicus, and tilapia Oreochromis niloticus. These immunostimulants increase non-specific immunity, such as total hemocyte count, phagocytosis activity, phenoloxidase, phagocytic, respiratory burst, superoxide dismutase, and total plasma protein. Immunostimulants from brown algae can also fight bacterial disease attacks Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Streptococciasis, Streptococcus iniae, and White spot syndrome virus (WSSV) by increasing survival rate and can increase the growth and feed efficiency of cultivated commodities that are not given immunostimulants.

Abstract

The ever-increasing demand for and consumption of coffee from year-to-year results in a rise in waste, particularly coffee grounds and coffee skins. Multiple attempts have been made to utilize this waste in the cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and industrial sectors. As a result of the waste's nutritious content, there is a significant potential for its usage as fish feed's ingredients. However, only a small number of researchers have examined the use of coffee grinds and coffee skins in aquaculture, particularly for tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and Olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceaus). This article aims to provide an overview of the potential use of coffee grounds and coffee skin in the world of aquaculture, particularly fish feed, in terms of nutrients and their application in enhancing the quality of these raw materials utilizing a fermentation process aided by probiotic microorganisms.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Vaname shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) is an export commodity from the fisheries sub-sector which has high economic value. The development of aquaculture systems from traditional to intensive has the potential for disease attacks. Control of the spread of the disease must be done as early as possible, one method of prevention is using immunostimulants. An alternative source of immunostimulants that can be used to increase the immune system of shrimp is octopus (Octopus sp.) ink. Octopus ink is generally not used or thrown away when the octopus meat is processed. Research on octopus ink is also minimal compared to squid ink and cuttlefish ink. The purpose of this review is to provide an overview of the potential of octopus ink as an immunostimulant for vaname shrimp. It is known that the content of octopus ink consists mostly of alkaloids, melanin, amino acids, and carboxylic acids. Octopus ink has various roles based on its compound content such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, antibacterial, antiretroviral, anticancer, anti-ulcerogenic, anti-inflammatory, antivirus, antifungal, antiviral, and anti-proliferative. From the results of the literature study, it is explicitly necessary to carry out further research to find out more complete compounds content in octopus ink so that its potential as an immunostimulant in vaname shrimp cultivation can be identified more clearly.

Abstract

In the effort of developing marine aquaculture, the hatchery stage is essential. During this stage, natural feed cannot be separated, because larvae generally are plankton feeders. Natural feed for fish is organisms in the water, which can be plants like phytoplankton and animals like zooplankton. With the increasing aquaculture activities in Indonesia, the demand for natural feed also increases. Organisms needed for natural feed, such as phytoplankton, can be obtained by collecting them from nature. However, to meet the availability of natural feed in fish farming, it is now done by cultivating them so that natural feed can be available sustainably. The method used in this research is a qualitative method by observing the growth and water quality of Tetraselmis chuii culture. Based on the research results, the best treatment for culturing Tetraselmis chuii is using Erlenmeyer culture with aeration because the cell growth reaches 700 x 10 4 cells/ml. Data on water quality results in intermediate Tetraselmis chuii culture are good for growth. The water quality in the culture tank is relatively stable at 25°C, pH 8, salinity ranges between 33-34 ppt, nitrate ranges between 13.6-17.8 ppm, and phosphate ranges between 2.32-7.6 ppm. The problem that occurred during intermediate culture is the contamination of other organisms. Prevention against contamination is by maintaining the sterility and specifications of the equipment used.
