Abstract

Elderly individuals are defined as those aged 60 years and above. In general, aging is accompanied by a gradual decline in biological, psychological, social, and economic functions. One of the most common health problems among the elderly is Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). RA is an autoimmune disease characterized by inflammation in the joints, particularly in the hands and feet, leading to pain, swelling, and often joint damage. Non-pharmacological therapy management can be applied to reduce pain and inflammation, maintain joint function, and prevent deformities. These include resting painful joints, maintaining an ideal body weight, ensuring adequate nutrition, applying warm compresses, and performing physiotherapy. Based on these considerations, this community service activity aimed to improve the health quality of the elderly and reduce pain intensity through the application of warm water and lemongrass compress therapy. The activity was conducted from March to August 2023, specifically on July 12–13, 2023, at Panti Sosial Tresna Werdha Budi Luhur Jambi. The participants consisted of 39 individuals (elderly residents and staff). The method used was direct simulation and demonstration on elderly participants experiencing pain. The results of the activity showed a reduction in pain intensity among all elderly participants following the intervention. The outcomes of this community service included an overall improvement in the quality of life of the elderly, a reduction in joint pain complaints, enhanced knowledge regarding herbal-based non-pharmacological therapy, and the strengthening of holistic nursing approaches in the elderly care setting. Additionally, this activity is planned for publication in a nationally accredited journal as part of the dissemination of community empowerment results.

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea or menstrual pain is a stabbing pain that is felt in the lower abdomen and thighs, this occurs due to an imbalance of the hormone progesterone in the blood, resulting in pain arising. Almost all women have felt interference during menstruation in the form of menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea) with various levels, ranging from just aches in the pelvis from the inside to extreme pain. Abstract

Bullying is one of the most common psychosocial problems among adolescents, particularly within the school environment. A lack of knowledge and awareness among students regarding the forms and impacts of bullying can increase the risk of deviant behavior and mental health problems, ultimately affecting academic performance. This community service activity aimed to enhance students’ knowledge about bullying through health education using visual media (PowerPoint). The activity was conducted face-to-face on January 15, 2023, with 27 students from class VIII J of SMP Negeri 5 Kota Jambi participating. The implementation stages included preparation, pre-test, delivery of educational material, interactive discussion, post-test, and evaluation. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ knowledge: before the intervention, 62.9% of students had poor knowledge, while after the intervention, 88.8% demonstrated good knowledge. These findings indicate that health education using visual media is effective in improving students’ understanding of bullying. It is expected that this program will contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and violence-free school environment.

Abstract

Women in Indonesia experience vaginal discharge in 90% of cases, with 60% of these cases occurring in adolescent girls. Symptoms of vaginal discharge are also experienced by adolescent girls aged 15-24 years, at a rate of approximately 31.8%. This indicates that adolescent girls are at risk of experiencing vaginal discharge. Vaginal discharge should not be taken lightly, as delayed treatment can lead to serious complications such as infertility and ectopic pregnancy. Vaginal discharge can also be a sign or symptom of cervical cancer and gonorrhea. SMA N 7 Kota Jambi is located at Jl. KH. M. Zuhdi, Ulu Gedong, Danau Teluk, Kota Jambi. Based on an initial survey, 10 female students admitted to having experienced vaginal discharge but did not take any action for treatment or prevention and tended to ignore the issue. This may occur due to a lack of knowledge and access to information among teenage girls, hence the need for education about vaginal discharge among teenage girls. The series of community service activities was conducted from September 2023 to February 2024, while the education was conducted on February 22, 2024, targeting 22 adolescent girls aged 16-18 years. The education and counseling were provided using leaflets as a medium, and an evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test questionnaires. The results obtained from the activity showed an increase in the knowledge of adolescent girls about Flour Albus by 2.6. The outcomes achieved include the publication of the community service results in a community service journal indexed by Sinta

Abstract

Nutritional status is a state of the body that is influenced by consumption, and eating habits. One of the most important factors in determining a person's health status is their nutritional status. Studies show that adolescents, especially in Islamic boarding schools, are at risk of experiencing nutritional problems due to unbalanced diets, lack of physical activity, and minimal awareness of the importance of monitoring nutritional status. In addition, the culture of eating together, lack of access to health information, and limited health facilities in Islamic boarding schools also worsen this situation. The lack of monitoring of adolescent nutritional status in the long term can have an impact on learning productivity, decreased immunity, and the risk of non-communicable diseases at an early age. The purpose of this Community Service is to empower adolescents at the Al Hidayah Islamic Boarding School in Jambi City to carry out early detection of nutritional status, so that obesity can be prevented. This activity was carried out at the Al Hidayah Islamic Boarding School, Jambi City. There were 13 community service participants, with the FGD method and guidance. The results of the community service were the formation of ORSADA Cadres, there was an increase in the knowledge of adolescent girls after being given health education about detecting nutritional status to prevent obesity. Cadres It is hoped that with ongoing mentoring, ORSADA cadres will be able to encourage the formation of a healthy lifestyle culture and improve the nutritional status of adolescents as a whole at the Al Hidayah Islamic Boarding School.

Abstract

Riskesdas 2018 recorded 2,867 pregnancies aged 10-19 years and 15 of them were aged 10-14 years. Medical Records of the KIA Program and PKPR Program of Putri Ayu Health Center reported that teenage pregnancies are always increasing. In 2020 (63 people), 2021 (105 people), 2022 (August alone there were 30 people); and in 2023 (57 people). This increase is thought to be related to free sex, pregnancy outside of marriage, dropping out of school; drug use; low education; lack of information about the dangers of teenage pregnancy; and poverty factors. From the results of the interview, it was found that 2 teenage mothers showed symptoms of depression (less communicative, locking themselves in their rooms, refusing to eat, rarely bathing, pale, dirty clothes, smelly body, messy hair and less concern about pregnancy). Interviews were also conducted with 4 other teenage mothers (2 pregnant out of wedlock; aged 16-19 years; elementary-high school; received bad treatment from husbands such as domestic violence, cheating, not having a permanent job, not providing material support, spending time with friends, being indifferent to children and wives, and not helping with housework). These various problems pose a risk of emotional disorders such as perinatal depression. Education was carried out on June 15, 2024 at the Putri Ayu Health Center Hall, in the form of group education for 70 minutes for 6 teenage pregnant mothers. The material was delivered using lecture, discussion and question and answer methods. Before and after education, tests were carried out using the same questionnaire. After being given education, there was an increase in average knowledge of 1.2 and attitude of 4.5 points. It was concluded that education is important for pregnant women in efforts to change behavior and is important to prevent perinatal depression.

Abstract

Adolescence is a period of physical and secondary sexual growth changes, one of which is menstruation. Primary dysmenorrhea is an uncomfortable sensation centered in the lower abdomen. The prevalence of dysmenorrhea in Indonesia reaches 98.8% in adolescents. Menstrual pain has a direct effect that negatively impacts the quality of life of adolescents, such as disrupting physical activity and even causing adolescents to miss school. Complementary therapy is one of the therapies to overcome primary dysmenorrhea, including herbal therapy. Turmeric tamarind and pineapple have been proven effective and easily available around the residence to overcome primary dysmenorrhea. The results of an initial survey at SMA N 7 Jambi City obtained information that the experience of adolescent girls in overcoming primary dysmenorrhea was only by resting or sleeping while rubbing eucalyptus oil and drinking warm water, as well as the lack of information from health workers regarding complementary therapy with herbal therapy of turmeric tamarind and pineapple to overcome primary dysmenorrhea. The purpose of this community service activity is to provide education and early treatment to adolescent girls who experience primary dysmenorrhea. The implementation of the activity was in the form of providing education about complementary therapy with turmeric tamarind and pineapple to overcome dysmenorrhea.
