Abstract

In recent years, research has shown that coding learning in early childhood can support computational thinking, problem solving and learning engagement, especially through game-based learning and unplugged coding approaches. The presence of digital technology in children's daily lives requires the assistance of parents and teachers so that its use continues to provide optimal benefits. A number of studies show that children need to be equipped with 21st century skills from an early age, such as critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, collaboration, and the ability to use technology wisely. Initial observations in the B4 group of the Madani Integrated Model State Kindergarten, East Palu District showed a low interest in learning children, which was characterized by a lack of attention to teacher instruction and the lack of knowledge of basic coding concepts. This condition indicates the need for digital integration through interactive and fun learning media so that the learning process becomes more interesting and able to increase children's understanding of coding concepts. This research aims to develop and test the feasibility of digital literacy-based educational game media to introduce basic coding concepts. This research uses a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model. The subjects of the study were 15 children of the B4 group (10 boys and 5 girls). Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, documentation, and validation questionnaires. The results of expert validation showed that media experts (95.3%), and material experts (98.2%) were very qualified. The implementation resulted in cognitive improvement, in the aspects of recognizing colors, shapes, and grouping shapes, there were no children (0%) in the BSB and BB categories, 10 children (66.7%) in the BSH category, and 5 children (33.3%) in the MB category. In the aspect of recognizing colors, shapes, and grouping shapes, children showed high enthusiasm in using educational game media. The development of educational games based on digital literacy has proven to be feasible and effective in introducing coding, improving the cognitive abilities of B4 children, and overcoming the lack of focus on children's learning.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the need to examine how the Jarimatika extracurricular activity contributes to the development of numeracy skills in children at RA Masjid Al-Azhar. The purpose of this study was to describe the implementation process, children's responses, improvements in numeracy skills, and challenges faced during the activity. The methods and techniques used were descriptive qualitative, and data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving Jarimatika instructors and the principal at RA Masjid Al-Azhar. The researcher revealed that Jarimatika is a structured and concrete method that improves children's accuracy, speed, concentration, and confidence in performing counting operations. Although challenges arise regarding children's limited attention span, this is successfully overcome through various strategies such as quizzes, finger warm-ups, and interactive activities. The results of the study suggest that Jarimatika is a valuable alternative to support early numeracy and can be integrated into learning programs to create more engaging and developmentally appropriate mathematical experiences. Children's responses during the activity generally increased very positively. They appeared enthusiastic about each step, displaying happy expressions, actively answering questions, and even initiating the use of their fingers to count before instructions were given. Increased engagement was also seen in children who were initially passive but became more active after the instructor introduced the Jarimatika method with games like a quick answer contest or guessing numbers.

Abstract

The professionalism of early childhood education teachers is an important issue because public perception of professionalism is determined not only by formal government standards, but also by social constructs formed through local cultural values. The gap between formal standards and public perception can hinder improvements in the quality of early childhood education, especially in areas with strong local wisdom such as Pamekasan Regency. This study aims to interpret public perceptions of the professionalism of early childhood education teachers in Pamekasan Regency to reveal how the community defines professionalism based on their experiences and local values, the socio-cultural factors that shape perceptions, and their influence on teachers' professional practices. The study used a qualitative phenomenological approach with in-depth interviews with 30 informants, participatory observation in five early childhood education institutions, and focus group discussions. The data were analyzed using Colaizzi's method to identify the meaning structure of the informants' experiences. The results showed that the Pamekasan community interpreted the professionalism of PAUD teachers through three dimensions: religious and moral competence as the main foundation, caring parenting skills, and mastery of pedagogical knowledge as a complement. A pesantren background and understanding of Islam were more highly valued than formal academic qualifications. The study concluded that the community's perception of PAUD teacher professionalism is shaped by local cultural values and Islamic traditions that are not always in line with formal standards. The research recommendation is that teacher professionalism improvement programs need to consider local values and involve community leaders to create a contextual professional development model.

Abstract

This study aims to describe Sunda Wiwitan ethnoparenting practices in the indigenous community of Kasepuhan Cisungsang, Banten Kidul, the cultural values transmitted to young children, and the community's strategies for responding to modernization. The study used a qualitative approach with Spradley's ethnographic method. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with customary leaders, parents, and community members, and a literature review on culturally based parenting and indigenous communities. The findings show that Cisungsang ethnoparenting is communal, spiritual, ecological, participatory, and oriented toward character formation. Childrearing is not limited to the nuclear family but is enacted through extended families, customary elders, agricultural activities, oral traditions, Seren Taun rituals, local arts, and mutual cooperation. The main values transmitted include respect for parents and ancestors, adherence to tatali paranti karuhun, religiosity, gratitude, simplicity, responsibility, social solidarity, cultural identity, and harmony with nature. Modernization has affected family language use, technology adoption, formal education, housing patterns, and children's social interaction; however, the community adapts through formal schooling, digital documentation, selective technology use, and the strengthening of customary leadership. These findings contribute to the development of early childhood education based on local wisdom by linking families, schools, communities, and the natural environment as integrated learning resources.

Abstract

One of the key components of the Early Childhood Development Achievement Standards is language development, which includes receptive language, expressive language, and early literacy skills. These abilities serve as the foundation for children's cognitive, social, and emotional development. Children's language acquisition is strongly influenced by social and cultural environments, as daily interactions constitute the primary source of linguistic stimulation. This study aimed to compare the language development of children aged 4–5 years in two early childhood education institutions with different environmental characteristics, namely an environment with diverse access to communication and learning resources and a relatively homogeneous environment. This research employed a quantitative comparative design using a purposive sampling technique. Specific criteria were applied in selecting participants to ensure that both groups possessed comparable characteristics. Data were collected through structured observations using a language development instrument based on the Early Childhood Development Achievement Standards. Descriptive statistics were used to provide an overview of children's language development, while an independent samples t-test was conducted to examine the significance of differences between the two groups. The findings revealed differences in the level of language development between children from the two educational settings. Children at TK Al-Barokah, Kedungkarang Village, demonstrated a higher average level of language development than children at TK Cendekia, Bapangan, Jepara. These differences were reflected in children's abilities to comprehend language, express opinions, and communicate actively during daily learning activities. The differences may be attributed to variations in language stimulation, the intensity of social interactions, and access to learning media and educational resources. Environments with more complex communication opportunities tend to provide richer language stimulation, whereas more homogeneous environments tend to produce language patterns that are more limited yet contextually grounded. The study concludes that environmental factors play a significant role in shaping early childhood language development and highlights the importance of designing contextual and adaptive learning strategies to support children's language growth.
