Abstract

Local wisdom in Confucian marriage is a manifestation of cultural values and spiritual teachings that govern sacred and meaningful matrimonial procedures. In Indonesia, marriage in Confucianism is not merely considered a bond between two individuals, but also a union of two families and a form of reverence towards ancestors and Tian (Heaven). The marriage process encompasses several stages, including the proposal report, family meeting, selection of an auspicious date based on the Confucian calendar, and the wedding ceremony itself, which is conducted through offering and prayer rituals at the temple. Within the context of national law, Law No. 1 of 1974 of the Republic of Indonesia concerning Marriage recognizes the validity of Confucian marriages, provided they adhere to appropriate customary provisions and procedures. This local wisdom emphasizes the importance of harmony, respect, and unity in building a strong family, aligning with state norms and regulations. Thus, Confucian marriage reflects a synergy between customary traditions, spirituality, and Indonesian legal regulations within a framework of sustainable local wisdom. The research method used is qualitative with an analytical descriptive approach. This approach allows researchers to thoroughly examine the values of local wisdom, the ritual practices of Confucian marriage, and their application within the national legal context. Applicable methods include: In-depth interviews: Collecting data from Confucian religious leaders, married couples, and marriage law experts to obtain direct perspectives on the integration of custom and law. Participatory observation: Directly observing Confucian wedding processions and practiced traditions to understand the preserved local values. Keywords: Local Wisdom, Confucian Marriage, Marriage Law.

Abstract

: This study entitled "Facing Challenges: The Role of Contemporary Interpretation for Modern People" aims to analyze the characteristics and relevance of contemporary interpretation in answering various problems faced by modern people. First, this study shows that contemporary interpretation has more diverse characteristics compared to classical interpretation, allowing for more adaptive interpretations to the current social and cultural context. Second, this study emphasizes that contemporary interpretation is still very relevant and able to provide answers to the challenges that arise due to advances in information technology, which have changed people's lifestyles and created new problems in various aspects of life. The background of this problem is important because complex challenges require solutions so that humanity, especially Muslims, can live in harmony. By analyzing the works of scholars and interpreters in the contemporary era, this study seeks to provide a deeper understanding of the contribution of contemporary interpretation in facing the challenges of the times. Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the customary prohibition on selling Tanah Soko in Kualu Village, Kampar, Riau, and analyzes its conformity with Islamic law. This qualitative field study used a normative Islamic-law approach and collected data through semi-structured interviews with six purposively selected informants, consisting of ninik mamak and community members involved in Tanah Soko management. Data were validated through source, method, and theoretical triangulation. The findings show that Tanah Soko is divided into Soko Tinggi, communal ancestral land that cannot be alienated, and Soko Rendah, individual inherited land that may be transferred. The prohibition on selling Soko Tinggi is enforced through multilevel customary deliberation. In Islamic law, the prohibition is valid because individuals do not possess full ownership (al-milk al-tām), while the custom meets the criteria of ʿurf ṣaḥīḥ and maṣlaḥah mursalah. Thus, the prohibition demonstrates harmonious integration between customary law and Islamic law.

Abstract

This study examines the model of Islamic-Christian dialogue that emerged during the Hijra to Abyssinia (615 CE), a pivotal yet understudied episode in early Islamic history. Despite extensive scholarship on Muslim-Christian relations in medieval and modern contexts, the Hijra to Abyssinia as a specific locus of interreligious dialogue has received insufficient analytical attention. Prior studies, such as those by Goddard (2000) and Ahmed (1992), have addressed the historical background of Muslim-Christian encounters in general terms but have not systematically analyzed the dialogical model operative in this event. This study addresses that research gap by applying the typology of interreligious dialogue, particularly the inclusivist-pluralist framework, to the primary historical narratives documented in Ibn Hisham’s Sirat Rasul Allah and Al-Mubarakfuri’s Al-Rahiq Al-Makhtum. A qualitative methodology with a historical-hermeneutical approach was employed, involving four stages: source collection, source criticism (heuristik and kritik), interpretation (interpretasi), and historiographical writing (historiografi). The findings reveal that the encounter between Jafar ibn Abi Talib and King Negus constitutes a sophisticated theological dialogue characterized by three distinct phases: confrontation, theological clarification, and mutual recognition. This study proposes the Abrahamic Encounter Framework as a new analytical category in interreligious dialogue theory demonstrating, through retroactive application of contemporary theory to a seventh-century CE event, that the inclusivist-pluralist model was not merely a modern discursive invention but was already operative in the foundational history of Islam. This finding has concrete practical implications: contemporary Muslim-Christian dialogue initiatives can draw upon this historically grounded Abrahamic Encounter Framework as a prescriptive model for conflict resolution and peacebuilding in pluralistic societies.
