Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol, and uric acid are the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in Indonesia, especially among elderly populations in rural areas. Lack of knowledge, limited access to healthcare services, and poor early detection exacerbate this situation. This community service program aimed to implement the empowerment of the Yasinan Group (Qur’an Recitation Group) in controlling non-communicable diseases through nursing care based on complementary therapy. The program was carried out among a men’s Yasinan group in RT 01 RW 02, Tlogo Village, Kanigoro District, Blitar, involving 35 participants. The method consisted of assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. Interventions included health education, free health check-ups, and acupressure therapy training. The interventions include health education, free health check-ups, and the promotion of acupressure techniques based on the standard operating procedure (SOP) for acupressure. These interventions were delivered over three meetings and involved measuring blood pressure, blood sugar, uric acid, and cholesterol, alongside acupressure therapy. Results showed a reduction in uric acid levels among participants with elevated levels by 1–1.2 mg/dL, The prevalence of hypertension decreased from 17 participants to 10, and blood sugar levels normalized in all participants. There was also an increase in participants’ knowledge and awareness of NCDs. Education-based interventions, routine health checks, and acupressure therapy were effective in reducing NCD risk and promoting healthy living behaviors. This model has potential for wider application as a community empowerment strategy in controlling NCDs.

Abstract

Young women, as prospective mothers, needed to prepare themselves to give birth to a quality generation. Preventing stunting in adolescents involved increasing knowledge and awareness of the use of local foods. The partner in this community service program was the Madrosatul Qur'an Hidayatul Mubtadiin Islamic Boarding School. The goal of this community service program for beginners was to increase the knowledge and awareness of young women (prospective mothers) at the Islamic boarding school regarding the importance of balanced nutrition for stunting prevention from adolescence, encourage healthy snacking habits based on local foods, increase access to nutritious food to support healthy nutrition for adolescents as a stunting prevention effort, and develop adolescent health cadres capable of becoming agents of change within the Islamic boarding school and the surrounding community. The results of data analysis using the Wilcoxon signed rank test obtained P = 0.000, so it was concluded that the provision of peer group education could increase the knowledge and awareness of young women (prospective mothers) regarding the importance of balanced nutrition for preventing stunting since adolescence and that was achieved was that the students exhibited very good healthy snacking behavior (88%) and fairly good healthy snacking behavior (12%). This service encouraged healthy snacking habits to fulfil balanced nutrition for students, increased access to nutritious food to support nutritional fulfillment as an effort to prevent stunting by modifying a healthy canteen, and built health cadres of adolescent cadres who were able to become agents of change in the community.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the culinary sector play a vital role in supporting the economy, particularly around hospitals where food demand is consistent. However, many vendors face challenges such as poor hygiene practices, limited menu innovation, inadequate financial literacy, and lack of consumer-friendly facilities, which reduce competitiveness and pose risks to public health. To address these issues, the Healthy & Relaxing Corner community service program was implemented with 20 vendors from 10 stalls around Saiful Anwar Hospital, Malang, through outreach, training, mentoring, provision of simple technologies, and participatory evaluation. The training modules included Clean and Healthy Living Behavior; PHBS (Perilaku Hidup Bersih dan Sehat), food safety, herbal menu diversification, financial management, product photography, digital marketing, waste management, and stall layout improvements. The results demonstrated significant progress: knowledge improved from 65% poor to 90% good, PPE use rose from 25% to 100%, and all participants achieved proper financial recording skills. Additionally, 75% reached good practice in product photography, 50% attained good ability in digital promotion, and 100% adopted correct waste sorting. All stalls successfully introduced herbal drinks, while half modified cooking techniques for healthier food preparation. However, only 30% of vendors created relaxing corners, suggesting that financial and space constraints limited physical restructuring. Overall, the program effectively improved hygiene, entrepreneurship, and innovation, contributing to healthier food environments and more sustainable income for vendors. The model is replicable for MSME empowerment in other communities, with future initiatives recommended to combine training with micro-financing or infrastructure support to maximize outcomes.

Abstract

Earthquakes are one of the natural disasters that frequently occur in Indonesia and claim many lives. Kediri City is an earthquake-prone area because it is home to one of the active volcanoes, Kelud Mountain. Children are among the vulnerable groups most at risk of being affected by disasters. Preparedness is important to be provided early to provide understanding and guidance on the appropriate steps to take when a threat occurs to reduce disaster risk. This community service activity aimed to determine the effect of simulation on earthquake disaster preparedness among students of SDN Pojok 2, Kediri City. The method used a pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design. The samples were taken using cluster random sampling and the sample size used was 46 students. The preparedness data were collected using a questionnaire. The data analysis used the Wilcoxon test. The results of the activity showed that the level of preparedness before the disaster simulation was almost entirely low (80.5%), the level of preparedness after the disaster simulation was almost entirely high (86.9%), and there was an effect of simulation on earthquake disaster preparedness among students of SDN Pojok 2, Kediri City (ρ = 0.000). Preparedness simulations have significantly improved elementary school students' disaster preparedness. Therefore, it is hoped that disaster management simulations can be implemented in all schools in Kediri City, with training provided to elementary school teachers.

Abstract

Perimenopause is a natural process in a woman's life that occurs between the ages of 45 and 55 years. In the context of perimenopause, the quality of life of perimenopausal women is greatly influenced by their ability to understand and manage the biological changes that occur. Knowledge-based education has emerged as a strategic approach to improving the quality of life of perimenopausal women. The stages of implementing community service were the preparation stage, implementation stage and evaluation stage. The community service was done in collaboration between STIKes Patria Husada Blitar Indonesia dan Visayas State University Philippines as the implementation of MOU between schools and the application of the three pillars of higer education in Indonesia. There were 30 participants who entered perimenopause. The data analysis used paired sample t-test. The paired sample t-test showed a p-value of 0.000 < α0.05, indicated a difference before and after the educational intervention. The correlation value between the variables was 0.991, indicated a strong and positive correlation of the community service participants demonstrated a better understanding of general perimenopause knowledge, symptoms and impacts, treatment and prevention, and perimenopause quality of life. This increase in knowledge showed that education had an important role in helping women understand the physiological conditions they experienced. Education gives them the ability to take more adaptive and healthy actions, thus having a positive impact on their physical and psychological well-being.
