Abstract

This study examines how Indonesia's energy sustainability is affected by the International Renewable Energy Agency's (IRENA) efforts to increase energy security in the nation. In light of the pressing global concerns around climate change and Indonesia's expanding energy requirements, IRENA is essential in helping to ease the country's transition to a more reliable and sustainable energy system. IRENA helps Indonesia reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and increase the use of renewable energy by supporting cutting-edge technology and sustainable energy policies. In order to assess IRENA's contributions to national energy policy making, international cooperation, and the development of renewable energy technologies, this study uses a desk analysis approach. The results showed that Irena's role in assisting Indonesia in achieving Net Zero Emission through renewable energy has an influence on Indonesia's energy security.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11, focusing on sustainable cities and communities, in Candirejo Village, Surabaya. We explore how Candirejo Village can serve as a model for urban sustainability in Surabaya, aligning with SDG 11 objectives. Using qualitative research methods based on direct observations in Candirejo Village, we identified key components supporting sustainability, employing the urban resilience approach from the Brundtland sustainability concept. Notable initiatives include the recycling of household wastewater for catfish cultivation, hydroponic systems, and herbal plant cultivation. These practices not only demonstrate environmental sustainability but also generate marketable products, contributing to household incomes in the village. By showcasing these local-level sustainability efforts, this research aims to provide insights into how grassroots initiatives can contribute to the broader goal of transforming Surabaya into a sustainable city and community, in line with SDG 11. The findings suggest that focusing on village-level sustainability practices could be an effective strategy for achieving city-wide sustainable development in Surabaya. The study underscores the importance of village-level environmental security and sustainability practices as effective strategies for achieving broader urban sustainability goals, even in densely populated city centers

Abstract

Triple nexus is a concept consisting of three main elements: humanity, development, and peace. One example of the integration of the triple nexus concept is in the case study of emergency education intervention for children victims of the internal crisis in Haiti. Before the crisis occurred, Haiti was already the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. This condition was exacerbated by the presence of armed groups that terrorized citizens and internal political chaos, resulting in poor living conditions for the people there, especially children. Seeing this, this study aims to analyze how the integration of the triple nexus concept in the cooperation of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and several related partners such as Education Cannot Wait (ECW) in emergency education interventions in Haiti. Previous studies have discussed UNICEF's work programs in different conceptual frameworks, this study tends to focus on the triple nexus concept in UNICEF's collaborative actions carried out together with partners. This paper uses a qualitative research method with a relevant secondary data base collected from previous sources such as articles, news, and academic publications. This paper finds that humanity, development and peace conceptualized in these three relationships are successfully reflected in the educational intervention efforts in Haiti by UNICEF in collaboration with EWC as a donor

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Peken e-commerce program run by the Surabaya City Government, reviewed from the perspective of Maqasid Syariah popularized by Ibn Asyur and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined by the United Nations (UN). Peken is a digital economic innovation designed to empower local MSMEs, increase their competitiveness in the digital market, and support sustainable economic development. This study uses a qualitative method with a literature study approach to explore the relevance and suitability of Peken policies with the principles of Maqasid Syariah and SDGs. Based on the perspective of Maqasid Syariah, the Peken program is in line with the maintenance of wealth (hifzh al-mal), life (hifzh an-nafs), and public welfare (al-maslahah al-‘ammah). This program not only provides wider economic access for MSMEs, but also creates economic and social stability for the lower classes in Surabaya. From the SDGs perspective, “Peken” supports no poverty (SDG 1), decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), and reduced inequality (SDG 10). The results of the study show that the implementation of Peken supports both sharia and global development goals by providing an inclusive and sustainable platform for MSMEs, strengthening local economic growth, and providing broad social benefits. This study emphasizes the importance of integrating digital economic policies with ethical values and sustainable development to achieve overall community welfare

On the one hand, this step strengthens political support for the government from both organizations. However, on the other hand, there are potential conflicts of interest and dissatisfaction from other community groups, which can disrupt political stability. Abstract

The Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) played a key role in the implementation of good governance in Rwanda after the 1994 genocide. Rwanda managed to restore stability and rebuild the country through structural reforms driven by RPF initiatives. UNDP contributed by building the capacity of government institutions, supporting judicial reform through Gacaca Courts, and advancing social and economic capacity through the Girinka and Mutuelle de Santé programs. The Vision 2020 initiative launched by the RPF focuses on economic transformation through infrastructure development and private sector empowerment, while Mutuelle de Santé expands access to health services, and Girinka aims to improve the economic and nutritional well-being of the community. In addition, the Umuganda program is one of the ways Rwanda can keep nature clean, and also the ban on using plastic bags can be a step in protecting the environment. These programs, along with Good Governance concept support, have strengthened transparency, accountability, and social reconciliation in Rwanda. The good governance model implemented in Rwanda, including economic reform, health access, and poverty alleviation, shows potential for implementation in EAC countries, although adaptation challenges must be considered

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the policy impact of the Taliban regime on gender-based violence and its implications for human security in Afghanistan, focusing on the conditions of women and girls. Since the Taliban returned to power in 2021, Afghan women have been systematically oppressed. Gender-based violence has become pervasive in Afghanistan as a result of girls' limited access to education, limited freedom of movement, and limited job possibilities. Due to their low engagement in public life, women and girls are disproportionately affected by the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Afghanistan, which has been made worse by these circumstances. This research was written using qualitative approaches, including the examination of pertinent literature and policy analysis as a means of gathering data. The results of this research demonstrate that women's physical and emotional safety can be seriously threatened by the Taliban. Additionally, the Taliban obstruct their access to necessities like healthcare and education. The research also demonstrates how the policy has made the environment unwelcoming for women, which has decreased their involvement in all facets of life. This research is expected to add to the scientific debate on gender security policies and will motivate the international community to increase the defense of women's rights in Afghanistan. The conclusion of this research is that the policies of the Taliban regime have drastically increased gender-based violence and exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, with devastating effects on the security and well-being of women and girls
