Abstract

The 2013 curriculum is developed with refinements of mind-set, one of them is a reinforcement of multidisciplinary learning, or commonly known as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Learning tool as one of learning support facilities also should be developed following the development of the 2013 curriculum. However, STEM learning tools are still unavailable. STEM implementation can be successful if supported by programs that are based on best practices for program design. One of the learning models that support them is PjBL (Project Based Learning). Also, there is an ability that is closely related to STEM implementation, namely spatial ability. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to develop STEM learning tools through PjBL to improve students’ spatial ability which valid. Learning tools developed were lesson plans, project worksheets, student worksheets, AutoCAD 2D Guideline, and spatial ability tests. This research was development research. The instrument used was validation sheets. The validation phase STEM-PjBL learning tools consisting of lesson plans, project worksheets, student worksheets, and spatial ability tests consisted of two phases. It was because only three of five validators who stated that the learning tools had been possible to use with minor revisions in the first phase. These results indicated that the learning tools were not however valid. As a result, the learning tools needed to be revised following the comments and suggestions provided by the validators. After that, the learning tools were validated again by the validators. The second phase validation result was all validators stated that the learning tools had been possible to use. In contrast to these tools, the AutoCAD 2D Guideline was only validated once because, in the first phase validation, all validators stated that the AutoCAD 2D Guideline was worth using with minor revision. Thus, STEM-PjBL learning tools to improve students' spatial ability have met the valid criteria. Keywords: development, learning tools, STEM, project-based learning, spatial ability.

Abstract

This study aims to find the features of Javanese woman through the novel Merantau Ke Deliby Hamka, with three points of discussion: hard-work, patience, and modesty. Hamka, through the novel tells about the cultural clash experienced by the protagonist, Leman. Staying for a living in Deli, North Sumatra, he marries Poniem, a strong, patient, modest, and hardworking Javanese woman. It is a prohibition in Minangkabau custom to marry a woman outside the clan. Abstract

The use of Bahasa Indonesia in the mass media such as magazines has been mostly influenced by English due to the use of the language as one of the main foreign language in Indonesia. Mass media have played crucial roles in promoting the foreign vocabulary by code mixing to make the writing become more prestigious and cool. The aim of this study is to find out the dominant type of code mixing used in the Aplaus magazine among three types of code mixing based on Musyken’s (2000) theory: insertion, alternation, and congruent lexicalization. The data of 47 code mixing were taken from Aplaus magazine in four editions from April to July 2016 on the Journey Section. In collecting the data, the researchers noted the occurrence of English code mixing in one of the sections in the magazine. Then, the data obtained were classified and tabulated. The results of this research show that not all of three types of code mixing by Musyken (2000) were applicable in the Aplaus magazine on the Journey section, there are found 36 instances or about 76.6 % for insertion, 11 instances or about 23.4 % for alternation, and no case of congruent lexicalization. So the dominant type of code mixing used in the Aplaus magazine was insertion.

Abstract

The existence of ASEAN as an international organization with legal personality was referring to the birth of the ASEAN Charter, 2007. The Charter became effective on December 15,2008 that Indonesia has ratified by Law No. 38 Year 2008. The Charter emphasizes the commitment of regional cooperation within the framework of the ASEAN Community basedon three pillars: political security, economic and socio-cultural. The three pillars areinterrelated for the purpose of peace, stability and prosperity in the ASEAN. One area that was agreed by ASEAN is legal protection for migrant workers. Legal protection for migrant workers is important because of some cases of abuse and torture by the employer, as in the case of Siti Hajar 2009. For the Indonesian legal protection for migrant workers is urgent because the number of migrants is increasing every year and it is the Government's obligation to protect its citizens wherever existence. ASEAN, in the regional level already has legal instruments for the protection of migrant workers namely the ASEAN Declaration of the Protection and the Promotion of the Rights of Migrant Workers. While at the national level, Indonesia has a number of legal instruments related, that is Law No. 13 Year 2003 and Law No. 39 Year 2004 on the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Workers Abroad. Based on the above, this paper will examine first, the protection of the rights of migrant workers within the framework of the ASEAN agreement and the second will examine the comparison between the protections of the rights of migrant workers in ASEAN level with Indonesia national law. The goal is to determine the harmonization and synchronization of the legal protection of migrant workers in ASEAN perspective and the perspective of Indonesian national law.
