By observing the frequentative utterance of directive illocutionary acts in Mario Teguh speech, we will be able to analyze what type and function of directive illocutionary acts used by Mario Teguh. Abstract

The research is based on Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' political speech at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Summit on December 13, 2017 in Istanbul, Turkey containing semantic and pragmatic elements. The study aims to describe and discover the use of semantics and pragmatic speech acts used by President Mahmoud Abbas in his speech of OIC Summit 2017. This research uses qualitative method with descriptive approach. While the theory is used as a foundation in the theory of semantic relation and the theory of speech act Searle (1979). The results of this study indicate that speech acts used by President Mahmoud Abbas in his speech cannot be separated from the context of the problems faced by the Palestinians after US President Donald Trump declared Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Based on a speech, the authors successfully identified 44 propositions containing semantic and pragmatic elements that have been reviewed. From the findings, 35 propositions contained an act of illustrative speech and the majority of them were expressive speech acts with 19 propositions. This shows the fact that President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinians are only able to express the form of condemnation and the inability of their nation in facing the US unilateral decision. In addition, at least the declarative speech in the speech with a proposition indicates that Palestine has not been able to declare itself as an independent nation over the occupation of Israel. Keywords:Mahmoud Abbas, semantics, pragmatics, speech act.

Abstract

Creativity could be interpreted as a person's cognitive abilities in solving problems by bringing up new ideas. The students’ math inadequate achievement is motivated by the fact that math presented as finished product, ready to use, abstract and taught mechanistic. This case can be lead to the creativity of the less developed students because students are not given the opportunity to think and use their ideas in solving mathematical problems. Problem Based Learning Model is a learning model that emphasizes the concept and information outlined from the academic discipline. The purpose of this study is to analyzed students’ creativity in solving mathematical problems through Problem Based Learning model (PBL) in class VIII-1 MTsN Model Banda Aceh. Data were gained based on the students’ worksheet in groups. The data acquisition is categorized into 5 levels (4 as the highest level and 0 as the lowest level) which is analyzed descriptively. The results show that three groups were at level 4 with very creative category, one group is at level 3 with creative category and the other group is at level 2 with deeply creative enough category. To conclude, PBL model could increase the students’ creativity in solving mathematical problems.          Keywords: mathematical creativity, problem based learning.

Abstract

The increasing number of Gen Y entering the workforce has urged organizations to change their views on workplace effectiveness. This is because Gen Y possesses certain characteristics that are different from generations before them. By understanding Gen Y’s work-related attitude and preferences, employers would be able to accommodate and implement the strategies aligned with gen Y’s strength and weaknesses. This exploratory study aimed to explore the work-related attitude of Gen Y in terms of the daily work routines and their work expectation. It is crucial for organizations to understand their preferences in developing effective ways to retain them in the organizations. Utilizing questionnaire surveys, data was collected from final year students who have undergone practical training and newly employed Gen Y in the workplace. Based on the difference characteristics posed by Gen Y compared to the previous generations, this study is aimed to compute the reliability of the scale in measuring the work-related characteristics of Gen Y.

Abstract

This experimental study aims to investigate the application of Indirect Corrective Feedback in reducing errors on students’ writing recount text. The subjects of the study were 60 tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Meulaboh chosen by random sampling. True experimental research was employed involving experimental group which was given Indirect Corrective Feedback and control group which was not given feedback. The instrument used was writing tests and the data were analysed by using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS). This study focuses on giving Indirect Corrective Feedback on students’ writing recount in terms of grammatical features of the text. Therefore, there are nine error aspects mainly analysed, those  are:  verb, noun ending,  spelling, word  form, word  order, pronoun, conjunction, missing and unnecessary word. The findings indicate that Indirect Corrective Feedback helps students to reduce errors in nine aspects. It is shown from the decrease of mean number of error in the post-test (12.17) which was lower than in the pre-test 27.07). It was also proven from errors performed in the pre-test as much as 388 and in the post-test as much as 250 from nine error categories. The results revealed that there was the reduction of error in the post-test. The finding confirmed that there is a significant difference between the results of post-test from both groups. It means that Indirect Corrective Feedback significantly improved  the students’ writing achievement by the reduction of errors.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of the four lecturer competences on student learning achievement. In Law of  the Republic of Indonesia No. 14/2005 on teachers and lecturers, lecturer competences are divided into four, namely pedagogic competence, personality competence, social competence, and professional competence. These four competences will be the independent variable (X) and students learning achievement becomes the independent variable (Y). The samples of this research were students of Faculty of Literature, Islamic University of North Sumatra Medan in odd semester 2016-2017. The questionnaire was taken from lecturer competence questionnaire, State University of Padang.  This research used quantitative research. Data analysis techniques are multiple linear regression, determination coefficient, t-test, and F-test. Before conducting multiple linear regression analysis, the required condition test: normality test, multicollinearity test, and heteroscedasticity (Ghozali, 2005) had done. The study used the analysis of variance (ANOVA). In F-test, F=1.012 Ftable=2.42, FFtable. It meant that there was no influence of competence simultaneously on students’ learning achievement. In T-test, t-test ttable, so results showed that there was no significant influence between lecturer’s competences individually.  In multi linear regression analysis, the higher lecturer’s pedagogic and social competence, the higher the students’ learning achievement, and the lower lecturer’s personality and professional competence, the lower the students’ learning achievement. The findings   is there is no influence between lecturer’s competences to students’ learning achievement each and simultaneously.
