Abstract

This Uncontrolled and excessive use of water can lead to the scarcity of clean water supplies, considering that the world's fresh water supply is only about 3%. An example of uncontrolled water use is when a tap user forgets to close the tap so this causes water waste. Therefore, a tool is needed that can solve these problems. This research aims to develop an IoT-based system that is able to monitor water levels and detect the presence of a person in the bathroom automatically to reduce water waste and increase user comfort. The system utilizes HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensors to measure the water level in the bathtub and PIR sensors to detect motion as an indicator of the presence of people. The data from the sensors is processed by the ESP32 microcontroller and forwarded to the IoT Connect application, which allows users to monitor the water volume and presence in the bathroom in real-time. The system also features a solenoid valve that automatically opens and closes the water flow according to the data from the sensor, as well as an LED as a visual indicator. Test results show that the system is able to accurately monitor water levels and detect the presence of a person, as well as provide automatic control of water flow to prevent wastage. With the integration of the IoT Connect app, the system offers a practical and innovative solution for bathroom water management.

Abstract

This research aims to address the needs of individuals with tetraplegia, with the expectation that it can contribute to the development of automatic control systems and provide insights for the fields of healthcare and education. The control system in the wheelchair reads muscle contractions via electrodes attached to the muscles. These electrodes serve as muscle sensors. The muscle sensor data, often referred to as EMG, is 10-bit. The EMG sensor in the wheelchair shows that the wheelchair's movement is detected as moving forward when the data value generated by the EMG sensor reaches the minimum threshold of 589. The wheelchair moves forward when the Y-axis value is positive and moves backward when the Y-axis value is negative. The wheelchair will turn right or left when the X-axis value is positive or negative, respectively. Thus, when the X value is 20 and the Y value is 20, the wheelchair will move forward and turn right. The data collected by the IMU sensor can be wirelessly transmitted to an IoT (Internet of Things)-based system. This data can then be monitored through a browser on a laptop or PC, as well as through a smartphone.

Abstract

Mental disability is a disorder in mental development that is usually characterized by a level of intelligence that is below the average of normal children, so mentally disabled children require a different learning approach because of their unique characteristics. The disability rate statistics for children aged 5-19 years is 3.3%. Meanwhile, the total population at that age (2021) is 66.6 million. Data from the Ministry of Education and Culture as of August 2021 states that the number of students attending SLB or inclusion schools is 269,398 children. The obstacle complained about by teachers in providing learning for children with special needs (with mentally disabled) is that teachers have difficulty delivering learning material because children with special needs find it difficult to understand what the teacher is conveying so they need help using effective and efficient learning media, for example learning media that uses augmented reality technology. This research aims to design a mobile-based application as a learning medium for animal recognition for mentally disabled students using augmented reality technology. This research method uses research and development research. The results of the research are an augmented reality application called ARAnimal which can visualize pets from two-dimensional images into 3D objects, besides that it can also provide a description of the animal's physical characteristics using audio. There is a quiz feature in the form of completing animal names and pairing animal names with types of pets or wild animals. With this application, student learning becomes interactive and interesting and helps teachers in delivering animal introduction material.

Abstract

This research focuses on the development of a valid prototype of the Savonius vertical axis wind turbine model through a research and development (R&D) approach, using a modified Borg and Gall development model. The study introduces a functional prototype suitable for student learning in renewable energy courses, offering a simpler and more portable alternative to wind energy generation. Student responses showed a positive perception, with 53% stating that the Savonius wind turbine was suitable for the presentation. The results of the questionnaire showed an overall average score of 86%, which was categorized as "Very Appropriate". The turbine operates effectively at a minimum wind speed of 3.5 m/s, producing an average voltage of 10.28 V, a current of 10.46 mA, and an output power of 1 watt. Although relatively small, this power level is sufficient for small-scale applications, highlighting the prototype's ability to support devices with low power or simple lighting, as well as serving as a renewable energy education tool. Wind turbine performance analysis showed optimal results at an average wind speed of 3.88 – 4.84 m/s, a power coefficient (Cp) of 0.87, and a tip-speed ratio (TSR) of 0.82. This shows a direct correlation between the TSR and the power coefficient, which indicates efficient turbine performance.

Abstract

Transient overvoltage is a phenomenon in the power system that can be caused by lightning or switching surges. These overvoltages have large amplitudes and short durations, potentially damaging equipment, especially the Circuit Breaker, leading to failure in power distribution. As such, analyzing transient overvoltage is critical for understanding its impact and for designing systems that can withstand such surges. This study investigates transient overvoltages at PT PLN (Persero) 150 kV Makale Tana Toraja Substation, calculating the highest possible transient overvoltage that could affect Circuit Breakers. The research employs a quantitative descriptive approach with an Ex-Post Facto design, using the lattice diagram method to analyze the transient overvoltage behavior. Findings reveal that the highest recorded transient overvoltage was 227.231 kV, with values decreasing as the distance from the lightning strike increases. Furthermore, calculations suggest that in the case of properly functioning arresters, transient overvoltage values at Circuit Breakers 1 and 2 are 512.33 kV and 542.514 kV, respectively. However, if the arresters are damaged, these values increase significantly to 1031.94 kV and 1028.814 kV. This study emphasizes the importance of maintaining functional lightning arresters to ensure protection system efficacy. By optimizing the design and operational parameters of protection equipment, this research contributes to strengthening the resilience of substations, ensuring the safety and reliability of critical infrastructure in areas prone to lightning strikes.
