Abstract

Hashtags are used in digital social movements to mobilize netizens and create social change. This study aims to fill in gaps from previous studies by comparing the hashtags #PercumaLaporPolisi and #PolriSesuaiProsedur, which emerged on Twitter as social movements in response to the rape of three children under ten in East Luwu, South Sulawesi. The study incorporates framing analysis and focuses on the frame alignment process to see the efforts of the hashtags #PercumaLaporPolisi and #PolriSesuaiProsedur on mobilizing social media users. This study uses Social Network Analysis (SNA) to analyze the network structure formed from #PercumaLaporPolisi vs. #PolriSesuaiProsedur hashtags and determine the values of reciprocity, centralization, diameter, density, and modularity. The researcher also uses framing alignment analysis to analyze the tweets collected using Python from October 6-17, 2021, and Netlytic software as a tool. This text compares the effectiveness of two Twitter hashtags, #PercumaLaporPolisi, and #PolriSesuaiProsedur, in mobilizing supporters during a campaign about police policies in Indonesia. Network analysis found that #PolriSesuaiProsedur had a more extensive network, higher density, and more robust framing than #PercumaLaporPolisi, which resulted in a more effective mobilization of supporters. The text emphasizes the importance of precise messaging and framing in hashtag activism. This study compared the success of two hashtags, #PercumaLaporPolisi, and #PolriSesuaiProsedur, and found that #PolriSesuaiProsedur was more successful due to its clear framing. This research highlights the significance of precise framing in hashtags for mobilizing supporters in digital social movements. Future studies could investigate the impact of various hashtags on mobilization.

Abstract

Sido Muncul Company produces modern herbal medicines and has adopted the concept of creating shared value (CSV) to synergize community empowerment with their core business. They implemented a CSV program called Desa Rempah, which focuses on the potential of Sambirata Village's cardamom commodity. This study examines the utilization of technology in their CSV activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research utilized qualitative case study methods to gather primary and secondary data from various stakeholders, including companies, public relations officers, community development teams, and local leaders, to gain insights into implementing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities by PT Sido Muncul in Sambirata Village. The case study approach allowed for a subjective perspective on social reality and used theoretical propositions to generalize findings. The CSV program, Desa Rempah, addresses the company's need for raw materials and the farmer group's issues in processing cardamom. The COVID-19 pandemic posed challenges to CSV implementation. Still, the company adapted through digital transformations and prioritized the local community's efficiency and effectiveness in developing CSV activities with BumDes (Village Owned Enterprises) Sambirata. Sido Muncul's strategy for CSV activities involves social mapping research and collaboration with stakeholders, including government and Bumdes Sambirata, to create shared value through innovations and efficiency, effectiveness, and responsiveness. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the company collaborated with millennial farmers to overcome obstacles and increase farmers' independence, leading to higher-value dried cardamom and increased income for the farmer group.

Abstract

This study delves into the intricate narratives surrounding the hijab in Indonesia, exploring the multifaceted perspectives presented by Deutsche Welle (DW) Indonesia, a transnational media entity. In the context of Indonesia, a nation characterized by religious diversity, the hijab has become a focal point of discussions, particularly concerning its compulsory nature and its implications for women's freedom and religious identity.  The study critically analyzes DW's portrayal of hijab-wearing Indonesian Muslim women, highlighting the interplay between media representations, cultural identities, and societal perceptions. Employing Sara Mills' critical discourse analysis, the research examines the subject-object positions within DW's coverage, unraveling the complexities of hijab discourse. Through the examination of DW Indonesia's coverage, the study reveals diverse perspectives, emphasizing the non-compulsory nature of hijab, the potential limitations it imposes on women, and the societal pressures associated with wearing it. However, the research underscores the need for a cautious interpretation of these narratives, recognizing the inherent complexities of individual choices, sociocultural backgrounds, and religious beliefs. The study also addresses the influence of global perceptions and Western biases, urging a critical approach to media representations. The research not only contributes to the scholarly discourse on media representations but also critically examines the intersection between religion, freedom, and media influence in contemporary Indonesian society.

Abstract

Aircraft accidents show that the industry is vulnerable to crisis and capture the complexity of crisis management and communication. This study examines the crisis response strategies employed by Sriwijaya Air in the aftermath of the SJ-182 plane crash on January 9, 2021. Utilizing the Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT) framework, the research categorizes and analyzes the airline's crisis communication actions based on primary and secondary strategies. The content analysis of news articles from Kompas.com, Detik.com, CNN Indonesia, and Reuters, as well as posts from Sriwijaya Air's social media accounts, reveals the implementation of excuse, compensation, partial apology, and ingratiation strategies. The findings indicate that while Sriwijaya Air avoided denial strategies, its delayed response negatively impacted public perception. The study highlights the importance of prompt and transparent communication in crisis management. It suggests areas for future research, including examining internal decision-making processes and the long-term impacts on organizational reputation and resilience.

Abstract

This study aims to explain factors that influence people to continue disseminating the infodemic even when they have a high level of education. This research uses a qualitative approach with data mined using interview techniques and literature studies. The qualitative research gathered data through in-depth online interviews and literature studies. Key informants, including experts in Communication Science, Religion, Social Media, and Health, were interviewed using semi-structured interviews, allowing for flexible yet focused discussions. The study's findings identify 12 factors contributing to the continued spread of the infodemic, including social media ownership, a critical attitude towards information, information-seeking skills, emotional maturity in processing information, the demands of daily life, the frequency of social media use, social media friend networks, efforts to enhance digital literacy, a tendency to avoid seeking information clarification, a narrow interpretation of religious teachings, belief in conspiracy theories, and specific underlying motives. This research contributes significantly by shedding light on this pressing issue, offering insights crucial for formulating evidence-based policies and interventions to enhance digital literacy and effectively counter the infodemic. Future researchers should concentrate on investigating motive aspects. Moreover, rigorous statistical tests in quantitative research can also be considered to enhance the depth of analysis, providing a quantitative measure of the influence exerted by each identified factor.
