Abstract

This study explores the relationship between faith (iman) and worship (‘ibadah) in shaping students' moral character within the educational setting of MTs Swasta Nurul Hikmah, a private Islamic junior high school. In an era where moral degradation among adolescents is a growing concern, Islamic education plays a vital role in nurturing ethical behavior through religious teachings and practices. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with teachers and students, classroom observations, and documentation of religious activities at the school. The findings reveal a strong interconnection between the level of students’ faith and the consistency of their worship practices with the development of moral values such as honesty, responsibility, respect, and discipline. Faith serves as an internal compass that guides behavior, while worship functions as a repetitive and experiential reinforcement of those values. Moreover, the school’s religious environment—through daily prayers, Qur'an recitation, and moral instruction—contributes significantly to students’ moral development. Teachers act as role models and moral guides, reinforcing the integration of faith and worship into students’ daily lives. The study concludes that a holistic Islamic educational approach that combines cognitive, affective, and behavioral aspects of religion is essential for moral formation. This has implications for Islamic educational institutions seeking to enhance character education, suggesting that strengthening both faith and worship systematically can foster a generation with strong moral integrity. Future research is recommended to examine this relationship across different school contexts and demographic settings to generalize the findings more broadly.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the effectiveness of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model in improving the understanding of class 2B Tenembak Alas Elementary School students on the material of ablution procedures. PBL was chosen because this approach encourages students to actively participate in the learning process and relate knowledge to real situations. Through this approach, it is hoped that students will not only understand the concept of ablution, but also be able to apply it in their daily lives. The research method used is class action with two cycles. Each cycle consists of four stages, namely planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. In its implementation, students are given problems related to ablution procedures that they must discuss and solve in groups. This activity is expected to increase students' curiosity and ability to work together in groups. Data was collected through an initial test and a final test to measure student understanding before and after the application of the PBL model. In addition, observation of student activities is also done to assess the level of engagement and interaction during the learning process. The results of the data analysis show that there is a significant increase in students' understanding of ablution procedures after the application of the PBL model. The average value of students' final test increased compared to the initial test, reflecting a substantial increase in understanding. In addition, observations show that students are more active in participating, asking questions, and discussing during learning. The involvement of students in groups makes them better understand the steps in practical ablution. This research concludes that the Problem Based Learning model is effective in improving students' understanding of ablution procedures. With an interactive and contextual approach, students not only learn theoretically but can also apply that knowledge in everyday life. Therefore, the application of PBL can be an interesting and useful alternative learning strategy in primary schools.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) teachers in the moral development of students at SMP Negeri 1 Indra Jaya, a public junior high school in Aceh, Indonesia. Amidst the growing concerns over youth moral decline, the presence of IRE teachers is seen as a critical element in fostering students’ ethical awareness and behavior through the integration of religious teachings within the formal education system. Utilizing a qualitative research method with a case study approach, data were gathered through interviews with IRE teachers, school principals, and students, alongside classroom observations and document analysis. The findings highlight that IRE teachers play multifaceted roles—as educators, moral exemplars, counselors, and facilitators of religious practice. Their contribution goes beyond the cognitive delivery of religious knowledge; they actively engage in shaping students' character by instilling core Islamic values such as honesty, empathy, responsibility, discipline, and respect. The study also underscores the importance of teacher-student interaction, school culture, and extracurricular religious activities in supporting moral development. Through consistent modeling of good behavior and integration of moral lessons into everyday learning, IRE teachers contribute significantly to building students' moral foundations. The research concludes that effective moral education requires a holistic strategy that combines religious instruction, personal example, and a supportive school environment. These findings have important implications for educational policy and teacher training programs, especially in multicultural and secular school settings where moral education is often fragmented. Further research is suggested to explore the comparative roles of IRE teachers in urban and rural contexts to enrich the understanding of moral development across diverse educational landscapes.

Abstract

Character of the Housewife According to the Concept of Education in the Islamic Perspective. The mother is the first madrasa for her children, the place where the child receives care and is given the first education, perhaps even from the time of conception. A mother consciously or unconsciously has given education to the baby since the womb can already hear and even feel the mood of the mother, so it is not surprising if the emotional bond between mother and child appears more than that of the father. The purpose of this research is to find out the character of the housewife that is in accordance with the concept of Islamic education in the construction of the character of the housewife. To achieve this goal, a descriptive method was used. library research techniques were used. After conducting research, it was found that housewives have the character of an educator for their children. As the first teacher in the family, housewives are obliged to provide education to their children in accordance with Islamic guidelines. The child's education given by the mother should start from the time the child is in the womb, because the baby in the womb is still very sensitive to the stimulation given from the outside. Until when a child is born, he becomes a child who is able to understand religious knowledge. According to the concept of Islamic education, building the character of housewives should be done when mothers are unmarried. Because educating teenagers in accordance with religious guidance means educating future mothers. The education given to housewives includes faith education, worship education and moral education. Through these three educations, housewives can become teachers and role models for their children in the household.

Abstract

The teaching of IPAS (Integrated Science and Social Studies), particularly in the topic of map recognition, often still relies on traditional methods that are less effective in enhancing student learning outcomes. Problem-Based Learning (PBL) offers a more engaging and effective alternative by encouraging active student participation and deeper conceptual understanding through real-world problem-solving. This study aims to improve fourth-grade students' understanding of maps specifically, their knowledge of what maps are and how to read them by implementing the PBL model. The research was conducted using a classroom action research approach. In the pre-cycle, the average student score was 71.15, with only 34.61% (9 students) achieving a score of 75 or higher. After the first cycle, the average increased to 77.5, with 50% (13 students) meeting or exceeding the benchmark. In the second cycle, the average score rose significantly to 93.65, with 96.15% (25 students) scoring above 75. These findings indicate that the use of PBL, supported by map-based learning media and PowerPoint presentations, significantly improves student learning outcomes in the topic of map recognition.

Abstract

In Islamic Religious Education learning, many methods are found that are still conventional and monotonous, where the explanation of the material focuses more on the teacher. This often makes it difficult for students to understand lessons and reduces their level of activity, so that the learning atmosphere becomes less conducive. This research was conducted at SDN Leungah to identify the impact of using a contextual approach in PAI learning. The contextual approach aims to create a more meaningful, relevant and applicable learning experience. By connecting the learning material with students' real experiences and the problems they face every day, this approach is expected to motivate students to be more active in learning and understand Islamic teachings in more depth. This has the potential to shape students' character to have more noble character, in accordance with Islamic values. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collection through direct interviews, observation and documentation. Interviews were conducted with teachers and students, while observations were carried out in class to see directly the implementation of the contextual approach in the learning process. The research results show that the application of a contextual approach in PAI learning has a significant impact on students' understanding. Students not only memorize religious concepts, but can also understand the meaning and practical application of Islamic teachings in everyday life. In addition, this approach succeeded in creating a more dynamic and enjoyable learning atmosphere, with increased student active participation in the learning process. Overall, the contextual approach has proven to be effective in improving the quality of PAI learning at SDN Leungah.
