Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of the Jigsaw method in improving learning outcomes of the Pillars of Islam and Pillars of Faith material at SD Negeri 0404 Pasar Ujung Batu. The Jigsaw method is a cooperative learning model that emphasizes cooperation between students in understanding the material in depth. In this method, students are divided into small groups and each member is responsible for studying and explaining certain parts of the material to their group mates. This study uses a quantitative approach with a classroom action research (CAR) design which is carried out in two cycles. The subjects of the study were fourth grade students of SD Negeri 0404 Pasar Ujung Batu. Data were collected through learning outcome tests, observations, and interviews. The results showed that the application of the Jigsaw method can improve students' understanding of the Pillars of Islam and Pillars of Faith material. This can be seen from the increase in the average value of student learning outcomes from cycle I to cycle II. In addition, the Jigsaw method also contributes to increasing active student participation, training communication skills, and creating a more interactive and enjoyable learning environment. With increased learning outcomes and student involvement, the Jigsaw method can be used as an alternative effective learning strategy. These findings provide implications for teachers in developing innovative learning methods that can improve students' understanding, especially in Islamic Religious Education subjects in elementary schools.

Abstract

This classroom action research examines the implementation of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model in nature-based learning to enhance students' morals and environmental awareness at SMP S Alam Leuser. The study aims to determine how CTL strategies, which emphasize meaningful and experiential learning, can foster students’ ethical values and ecological responsibility. Conducted in two cycles, this research follows the Kemmis and McTaggart action research model, consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through observations, student reflections, teacher journals, and interviews. The findings indicate that integrating CTL with nature-based learning significantly improves students’ moral values, such as honesty, responsibility, and cooperation. Furthermore, students demonstrate increased environmental awareness through active participation in sustainable practices, including waste management, tree planting, and water conservation efforts. Each cycle of the research reveals progressive improvement in student engagement and behavioral changes, emphasizing the role of contextual learning in character building. The study highlights the importance of teacher facilitation in connecting learning materials to real-life environmental issues, making the learning process more relevant and impactful. The results suggest that CTL-based nature learning is an effective pedagogical approach for developing both cognitive and affective competencies in students. This study recommends further exploration of CTL implementation in various educational settings to assess its broader impact on student character development and environmental consciousness.

Increasing student interest can be seen from several aspects, namely student activity, teacher activity and the effectiveness of the learning process, and student achievement scores. The techniques used are the classroom action research approach, observation data collection techniques, and student learning outcome tests. The data obtained from both student activity and student learning outcome scores in cycles I and II in classroom action research can be interpreted as follows, (1) Student interest and ability in learning to write compositions are very good; (2) Image media really helps students in improving their imagination so that they are able to make simple sentences that become the framework of the composition and then developed further; (3) Students are able to interpret simple sentences by linking the series of images they observe; (4) Students are able to communicate their writing based on the results of observations to their friends and to the teacher; (5) The learning process is more varied so that children become creative, active and enjoyable; (6) Learning is more effective, because it focuses on image media; (7) Learning will be conducive, because students' attention is focused on the provided picture media; (8) It is easy for teachers to evaluate the results of children's activities, especially in terms of students' interests and abilities; (9) It can be used as a benchmark for subsequent learning. Based on these results, the use of picture media can be used as an alternative in efforts to increase students' interest and abilities in writing essays.
