Abstract

This research aims to describe the implementation of the discussion-based learning model with the beach ball strategy, describe the improvement in students' communication skills after using this model, and describe students' conceptual understanding of the topic of work and energy at SMAN 12 Surabaya. This research is a descriptive quantitative research with a pre-experimental design. The design used is a one-group pretest-posttest design, with the subjects being class X MIA 2 (31 students), X MIA 4 (35 students), and X MIA 5 (30 students). The research was conducted over two meetings. The results showed that the implementation of the discussion-based learning model with the beach ball strategy in all three classes was categorized as very good. Students' verbal communication skills improved from the first to the second meeting, with average percentages of 81.11%, 82.78%, and 83.33%. Non-verbal communication skills also showed improvement from the first to the second meeting, with averages of 72.22%, 62.50%, and 72.22%, indicating that communication skills were in the "good" category. Students' conceptual understanding of the topic of work and energy in all three classes significantly improved, with average n-gain scores of 0.4, 0.35, and 0.43. This indicates that the improvement in conceptual understanding was in the "moderate" category. In conclusion, the discussion-based learning model with the beach ball strategy can improve students' communication skills and conceptual understanding of the topic of work and energy.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to explain the role of the Regional Civil Service Agency (BKD) in the recruitment process of Civil Service Candidates (CPNS) within the Probolinggo Regency Government. The type of research used is a descriptive-qualitative approach, which aims to describe the answers to the issues regarding the role of the BKD in recruitment. The data collected are processed and analyzed descriptively and qualitatively. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, which involves direct field observations of real conditions, and interviews, which involve direct interviews with respondents, informants, or sources. Based on the research findings, it is known that the implementation of Government Regulation No. 43 of 2007 regarding the recruitment of Regional Civil Service Candidates is used as a guideline that must be followed by the Probolinggo Regency Government, the organizing agencies, and related units. However, in practice, conflicts of interest often arise between various parties, both between the organizing agency and the related work units, as well as with honorary staff who are appointed as Regional Civil Service Candidates.

Abstract

Accountability is the responsibility for the management of resources and the implementation of policies entrusted to the reporting entity in achieving the established goals periodically, with the assurance that there is no hidden agenda, providing transparent and honest information to the public. To realize good governance, it is crucial to apply principles like accountability in the public service process. The aim of this research is to examine the implementation of public service accountability, specifically in the process of issuing Electronic Identity Cards (E-KTP) at the Krejengan Sub-district Office, Probolinggo Regency. The method used in this study is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The findings from the research conducted at the Krejengan Sub-district Office, Probolinggo Regency show that, from various accountability indicators, the staff have successfully applied the principle of transparency. However, there were some shortcomings in several sub-aspects of accountability, particularly in the service process for the issuance of Electronic Identity Cards (E-KTP). When the blank forms ran out, the staff did not promptly take action to collect more forms from the Population and Civil Registration Office.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the relationship between mathematics and culture through an ethnomathematics approach, focusing on Lasem Hand-Drawn Batik. Lasem Hand-Drawn Batik, as one of Indonesia's cultural heritages, is rich in motifs that are not only artistic but also contain deep mathematical concepts. This research uses a qualitative approach with an ethnographic method, where the researcher analyzes the geometric structure, symmetry, and pattern motifs of Lasem Hand-Drawn Batik to identify the application of mathematical concepts in its production process. The researcher collected data through direct observation of the batik-making process, interviews with batik artisans, and relevant literature studies. The findings show that the motifs of Lasem Hand-Drawn Batik contain various clear mathematical elements, such as symmetry, rotation, and fractals. These concepts not only enrich the aesthetic value of the batik but also provide insights into how culture and mathematics are interconnected in daily life

Abstract

This paper examines the contrasting perspectives of the Frankfurt School and Francis Fukuyama on the direction and purpose of human history. The Frankfurt School, a group of critical theorists, offered a radical critique of modernity and capitalism, arguing that history is a continuous process of struggle and change driven by underlying societal contradictions. They view liberal democracy as a form of domination and advocate for a radical transformation of society. In contrast, Fukuyama's "end of history" thesis posits that liberal democracy represents the final stage of human political evolution, marking the end of ideological conflict. This paper explores the fundamental differences between these two perspectives, particularly their views on history, ideology, and the potential for social change.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the application of the Snowball Throwing learning model and its influence on improving student learning outcomes through a literature review. Snowball Throwing is a learning model that involves students' active participation in the learning process in a fun and creative way through discussion. This model has proven successful in increasing student participation and learning outcomes because it encourages them to actively interact and work together in solving problems. This research uses a literature review method, by collecting data from various journal sources, articles and related research. The results of the analysis show that consistently applying the Snowball Throwing model can improve student learning outcomes, especially in terms of understanding concepts, critical thinking skills, and collaboration between students. This research suggests that the Snowball Throwing model be applied as an effective learning method, especially in learning contexts that prioritize active interaction. It is hoped that these findings can help educators in choosing appropriate learning methods to support improved learning outcomes.

Abstract

This research explores ethnomathematics in Udeng Pacul Gowang Sidoarjo. The research method used is a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. The data collection technique used in this research is observation and the data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis. The results of this research prove that there are several mathematical concepts in Udeng Pacul Gowang Sidoarjo which include straight lines, curved lines, flat shapes, and the concept of congruence.

Abstract

Anthony Giddens's structuration theory serves as a pivotal framework in contemporary social theory, illuminating the intricate relationship between human agency and societal structures. Central to this theory is the "duality of structure," a concept that dissolves the binary opposition between structural determinism and radical individualism by demonstrating how structures simultaneously constrain and are reshaped by individual actions. This study applies structuration theory to the sociology of knowledge, exploring how it explains the processes of knowledge production, dissemination, and institutional dynamics. Through a structured library research methodology, the study synthesizes theoretical and empirical insights across disciplines such as organizational studies and information systems, employing core concepts like agency, recursive practices, and time-space distanciation as analytical tools. The findings underscore the theory's adaptability to complex sociological phenomena, revealing its power to reconcile agency-structure tensions while situating knowledge within its historical and cultural contexts. By leveraging Giddens's framework, the study offers a nuanced understanding of social practices, empowering individuals to critically engage with and transform their sociocultural environments.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relevance of social theories in increasing the effectiveness of learning the Qur'an and Hadith (Qurdis). Qurdis learning, as part of Islamic religious education, has an important role in shaping students' character and religious understanding. However, conventional learning methods often pay less attention to social aspects and interaction in the learning process. This research uses a qualitative approach with a literature study method. Data were collected from various sources such as books, scientific journals, articles, and other relevant sources that discuss social theories and their implementation in education, especially in Qurdis learning. The results of the study indicate that relevant and applicable social theories in the context of Qurdis learning, such as social learning theory (Bandura), constructivism theory (Piaget, Vygotsky), symbolic interactionism theory (Mead), and social cognitive learning theory (Bandura) make a major contribution to the development of more effective, relevant, and appropriate Qurdis learning. student needs through in-depth understanding.

Abstract

This study is to investigate ethnomathematics in the traditional Banyuanyar Probolinggon game Gobak Sodor on mathematical ideas like gradients, vectors, and point-to-point distance. Based on the information gathered and the data collected through observations and interviews, this study employs an anthropological approach to describe a thorough investigation of a culture. In order to comprehend ethnomathematics in relation to mathematical notions like vectors, gradients, and point-to-point distances, this study focuses on the Gobak Sodor game, one of the traditional games played in Banyuanyar Probolinggo. This demonstrates how mathematical ideas and methods of deepening in earlier research that have connections to geometric mathematical notions like flat shapes are related to the traditional game Gobak Sodor in Banyuanyar Probolinggo. The use of traditional game media in mathematics education can have advantages, such as helping students visualize mathematical topics in a realistic setting, which improves their comprehension.
