Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationship between digital media use and maternal health care utilization among young pregnant mothers in Kenya. Using a mixed methods approach combining questionnaires and focus group discussions (FGDs), data were collected from pregnant women and new mothers aged 19–35 years in Nairobi. Using Microsoft Excel Data Analysis ToolPak Ver. 2016, primary data were statistically analyzed, while FGD data were subjected to thematic analysis and narrative interpretation. Findings revealed that 88% of participants preferred internet searches for information, 92% used different digital media during pregnancy, 56% used pregnancy apps, and 9% abstained from digital media for maternal health information. The study concludes that, in addition to the continued importance of traditional sources of information, digital media have a significant impact on the use of maternal health services. It recommends that health care providers actively usedigital media, especially apps, as educational tools to disseminate reliable information to young pregnant women and new mothers in Kenya. It also recommends that planners and policymakers incorporate digital media into maternal health interventions to increase their effectiveness.

Abstract

Social media, usually used as a medium to communicate with each other, has been transformed into a means/container to express Gus Nadir's ideas about the Qur'an and tafsir. This paper aims to examine Gus Nadir's ideas about numerical tafsir, which deviate from his concern about arbitrary interpretations and tend to be mere matchology on social media. An in-depth analysis of his work entitled "Tafsir Al-Qur’an di Medsos: Mengkaji Makna dan Rahasia Ayat Suci Pada Era Media Sosial" will be conducted, but the author limits the object of study only to the sub- theme entitled "Tafsir Otak Atik Angka". This paper is presented using a descriptive method supplemented by reflection, interpretation, criticism, and comparison as analysis needs. It was found that Gus Nadir, a cleric, and legal activist, expressed his frustration in "Tafsir Otak Atik Angka" as a response to the justification of politicians using the Qur'an. Although Gus Nadir emphasizes in-depth study, he does not elaborate on the relationship between the interpretation of numbers and gratuitous interpretation. Nevertheless, his efforts to reveal the model of numerical interpretation according to the method of scholars must be appreciated, even if it is limited to a short writing in cyberspace.

This research uses qualitative research methods with a phenomenological approach, and the technique in determining informants is using purposive sampling techniques, and the method in collecting data itself is done through observation and interviews. As a reference in analyzing data and explaining related phenomena in this study, namely using Max Weber's Theory of Action. The results of this study show that students who commit spamming actions are motivated by the economic conditions of their families due to the pandemic and distance learning, as well as the influence of the actions of their friends and the environment around them, with some of the effects experienced by them, namely, often losing focus on learning, not paying attention to class and even sleeping in class during class hours, and skipping class, up to dropping out of school.

Abstract

This study explores the widespread adoption of the keffiyeh trend within the global community, including Indonesia, as a form of solidarity in support of Palestine. The surge in the keffiyeh trend intensified following Israel's forceful assault on Palestine, purportedly in response to Hamas' actions on October 7, 2023.Employing virtual ethnography through the analysis of social media content, the research delves into the historical context of the keffiyeh among Arabs. Known by different names across various Arab nations, such as kufiyah, gutrah in Saudi Arabia, shemag in Iraq, and keffiyeh in Palestine, this head-to-neck covering initially served as protection for village workers during outdoor activities. In the 1980s, the keffiyeh underwent a transformation into a fashion accessory, gaining popularity among young individuals with a bohemian style in New York. Notably, major global brands like Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton even incorporated keffiyeh motifs into their products. Despite its fading significance, the keffiyeh experienced a resurgence as a symbol of solidarity during global demonstrations and actions defending Palestine following Israel's renewed attacks. Participants in the Palestine Defense March prominently featured the keffiyeh, sharing images on social media platforms, notably Instagram, leading to a resurgence of the keffiyeh trend within the wider community.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to provide an overview of the communication ethics of the millennial generation on social media from a Pancasila perspective and according to the role of Pancasila moral values in dealing with technological developments. Advances in technology and science are directly eroding the ethics of using social media, thereby slowly reducing the noble values of Pancasila, which is the life guide and ideology of the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia. In the era of the millennial generation, the use of social media is often misused. The reason is, the millennial generation tends to be susceptible to content spread on social media without filtering it critically. They truly believe that the content is fact, so they try to defend it with their stance. Socialization, regulatory enforcement, and social media literacy are some of the external ways in which this problem can be solved. Another internal way is to instill in the millennial generation various values and standards of life based on Pancasila and encourage the millennial generation to be involved in various positive productive activities on social media.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the content of presidential candidate roasting videos on @sandissukron’s TikTok account using Peirce’s semiotic theory. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection through indirect observation of three @sandissukron video contents and documentation studies. The results showed that the video content can be analyzed using Peirce’s semiotics, resulting in various meanings ranging from principles, traits, personalities, to implied goals. The explanation of these meanings is described in a trichotomy table consisting of sign, object, and interpretant. The gestures, intonation and coded language in the video represent the nature and personality of the intended presidential candidate. Anies Baswedan is portrayed as someone who is good at rhetoric and has a smart political strategy, Prabowo Subianto is portrayed as a power-hungry individual with a poor record on human rights, while Ganjar Pranowo is portrayed as a figure who is not trusted and is considered a party puppet. This research provides deep insight into how signs in TikTok video content can provide complex interpretations of presidential candidates and reflect public opinions and perceptions. It shows that social media has a significant role in shaping political narratives and public opinion.

Abstract

The Digital Civility Index (DCI) survey, conducted by Microsoft in 2020, was based on the findings of its annual Civility, Safety and Interactions Online study. The objective of the DCI survey, or Digital Civility Index, is to ascertain and enhance the digital civility of internet users globally with regard to their online communication. The results of the survey revealed that Indonesian netizens exhibited the lowest level of digital civility among their Southeast Asian counterparts. The objective of this article is to provide an understanding of the digital civility of netizens in their online interactions, with a view to facilitating constructive interactions based on a digital citizenship perspective. This article was prepared using the bibliography method. The results of the study demonstrate that the digital civility of Indonesian netizens is deficient due to their limited capacity to interact online, which renders them susceptible to the propagation of misinformation. Proficient netizens must possess the capacity to navigate novel challenges by upholding human rights, embracing cultural differences, and demonstrating the requisite digital intelligence competencies, namely information literacy, media and digital empathy.

Abstract

The development of information and communication technology and new media has brought a new dimension of public space to society. In the 19th century, the realization of a public space that really facilitated public communication was very limited due to the domination of public space by the state and industrial corporations. However, with the existence of the Internet, it is possible for a new public space or new public sphere called social media to emerge. The emergence of social media has succeeded in changing people’s interaction and communication patterns from offline to online. This has implications for the emergence of social media phenomena, both positive and negative. In order to understand the facts of sociality in online spaces or social media, a new research method technique called netnography is needed. Netnography is present as a lens and mitigator for various forms of changes in interaction and communication patterns in online spaces, which ultimately give rise to a new online culture.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the role of community identity on the behavior of online gamers. This research was conducted on the online gaming community X, which consists of students. The method used is qualitative phenomenology with interview data collection techniques. The research results show that the identity behavior of online gamers is determined by their community identity role. This community forms its own norms and values that are mutually agreed upon. The community also motivates the formation of gaming behavior and the intentions of each member’s behavior. The rational individual of action (gamer) is formed by a group of actions based on a community of utility, not an individual utility. Community members must force themselves to gain recognition of their group identity through many irrational acts of conformity.
