Abstract

This study examined the effect of the Numbered Heads Together (NHT) model on IPAS learning outcomes among fourth-grade elementary school students. A quasi-experimental study using a pretest-posttest control group design involved 50 students, with 25 students assigned to the experimental group and 25 to the control group based on their initial abilities. Students’ learning outcomes were measured using a 20-item multiple-choice test administered before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality and homogeneity tests, and an independent-samples t-test at a significance level of α = 0.05. The mean score of the experimental group increased from 57.20 on the pretest to 77.80 on the posttest, whereas the control group increased from 48.80 to 55.40. The data met the assumptions of normality and homogeneity. The independent-samples t-test indicated a statistically significant difference in learning outcomes between the experimental and control groups (p < .001). These findings indicate that students who participated in NHT-based learning achieved higher IPAS learning outcomes than those who received conventional instruction. The findings suggest that the NHT model can be considered an alternative cooperative learning model for improving IPAS learning outcomes among elementary school students.

Abstract

Al-Qur’an literacy is an essential competence that needs to be developed from elementary education; however, differences in students’ abilities require learning strategies that are adapted to their needs. This study aims to examine the strategies employed by BTHQ teachers in developing the Qur’anic literacy skills of fifth-grade students at SD Al-Qur’an Wahdah Islamiyah 02 Makassar, identify the development of students’ Qur’anic literacy skills, and identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in the implementation of BTHQ learning. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that BTHQ teachers implemented learning strategies through lesson planning, halaqah, Wafa, Dirosa, talaqqi, repeated reading practice (drill), individual guidance, religious motivation, and continuous evaluation. The development of students’ Qur’anic literacy skills was identified through observations, interviews, and learning evaluations, particularly in reading fluency, makhraj and tajwid accuracy, memorization, murojaah, and Qur’anic writing. However, the development occurred gradually and differed among students. Supporting factors included school support, teacher competence, learning methods and media, facilities, parental cooperation, and student motivation. Inhibiting factors included differences in students’ abilities, limited concentration, difficulties in memorization and murojaah, insufficient home practice, and learning boredom. The findings indicate that the implementation of BTHQ strategies was adapted to students’ conditions and supported the ongoing development of Qur’anic literacy skills.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) model—within a deep learning approach—on the interest and learning outcomes in Indonesian language studies among fourth-grade students at UPT SPF SDN Malewang, Makassar City. A quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design (specifically, a non-equivalent control group design) was employed, involving 19 students in the experimental class and 19 in the control class. The learning outcome test and learning interest questionnaire were theoretically validated through expert judgment and empirically tested on 20 students outside the sample using Product Moment correlation and Cronbach's Alpha reliability testing (0.808, high category). Data analysis utilized the Shapiro-Wilk test, Levene's test, N-Gain analysis, and the Independent Sample t-test. The results showed that the experimental class's average post-test score (78.42) was higher than that of the control class (65.79), with average N-Gain scores of 0.58 and 0.31, respectively (both in the medium category). The independent-samples t-tests showed significant differences between the two classes in learning outcomes (t = 4.512, df = 36, p < 0.001) and in learning interest (t = 5.203, df = 36, p < 0.001); consequently, the null hypotheses (H₀₁ and H₀₂) were rejected and the alternative hypotheses (Hₐ₁ and Hₐ₂) were accepted. It is concluded that the CIRC model, within a deep learning approach, has a positive and significant effect on the interest and learning outcomes in Indonesian language studies among fourth-grade students. The novelty of this study lies in explicitly mapping the CIRC syntax onto the meaningful, mindful, and joyful principles of deep learning, offering teachers a practical, collaborative reading–writing design that can raise interest and learning outcomes in Indonesian language learning at the same time
