Abstract

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Indonesia continue to experience rapid growth, including Kerupuk Latansa SME in Batam City. However, the packaging activities at this SME are still performed using non-ergonomic work facilities, causing physical complaints among workers. This study aims to identify the level of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) experienced by workers and to design ergonomic work facilities to improve posture and enhance work comfort. The methods used in this research include posture analysis using RULA (Rapid Upper Limb Assessment) and identification of physical complaints through the Nordic Body Map (NBM) questionnaire. Workers' anthropometric data were used as the basis for designing the work facilities. The results of the study revealed that the most common MSD complaints occurred in the neck, shoulders, back, upper arms, waist, knees, and calves, with a high-risk category. The total percentage of MSD complaints was 64% for Worker 1, 43% for Worker 2, 63% for Worker 3, and 64% for Worker 4. As a solution, an ergonomic worktable was designed with specifications of 90.6 cm in height, 250 cm in length, a partition height of 20 cm, and a table tilt angle of 100°, adjusted according to workers' anthropometric data.

Abstract

PT Giken Precision Indonesia is a manufacturing company specializing in plastic molding products, located in Batam and established in 1991. Based on field observations, frequent mold damage in injection molding machines has resulted in defects in the wing eater product. This issue occurs due to the loosening of mold pins within the upper and lower plates of the mold. The total defective products for wing eater in one year reached 6.73%, exceeding the company’s tolerance limit of 5% annually. This study aims to improve the quality of injection molding molds in the wing eater production process and determine the appropriate mold design to enhance the injection molding process quality. The methods used in this study are Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) and Defects Per Million Opportunities (DPMO). The results show that after designing an ejector set with upper plate and lower plate dimensions of 500 mm in length and 338 mm in width, the ejector pins were redesigned with two dimensional variations: a base diameter of 5 mm and a tip diameter of 4 mm. The percentage of defective products significantly decreased from 7.19% in January 2023 to 2.06% in February 2024. The Sigma level improved from 3.82 (10,170 DPMO) to 4.25 (2,980 DPMO), indicating a 70.7% reduction in defects. Thus, the mold quality can be improved.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the performance of the Polaris Welding machine at PT Excelitas using the Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), Mean Time To Repair (MTTR), and Overall Availability methods. The Polaris Welding machine often experiences downtime, so that productivity is disrupted. The results of the study showed an average MTBF value of 3.24 hours, MTTR of 0.55 hours, and overall availability of 84.66%, which is still below the global standard (≥ 90%). The main causal factors are lack of operator training, unscheduled machine maintenance, and material mismatch. To improve machine performance, planned maintenance standards and autonomous maintenance are recommended. This approach is expected to minimize downtime and increase the effectiveness of the production process at PT Excelitas.

Abstract

Ensuring proper and regular feeding is an important aspect of maintaining the health and well-being of pets. However, pet owners sometimes face challenges in consistently providing food to their pets, especially when they are busy with work or other activities. To address this issue, an automated feeding system can be an effective solution. This abstract highlights the implementation of an automated pet feeding system using Arduino Uno, a popular open-source microcontroller board. The system is designed to dispense the appropriate amount of food at scheduled times, ensuring that pets receive their meals on time. The Arduino Uno acts as the brain of the system, controlling various components such as a motorized food dispenser, a digital display for programming and monitoring, and sensors for detecting the presence of pets and food levels. By utilizing a programmable microcontroller, the system can be easily customized to accommodate specific feeding requirements and pet schedules. Overall, the automated pet feeding system using Arduino Uno offers a practical and reliable solution for pet owners who struggle to maintain consistent feeding routines. By utilizing technology such as Arduino Uno, pet owners can ensure that their pets receive proper nutrition, even in their absence.

Abstract

Muscoskeletal Disorder is one of the causes of poor work posture during work activities. Efforts to minimize this complaint are by identifying, evaluating, and improving the products that are the work media and body posture while working. This study is a study conducted on the three work activities at UMKM Kerupuk Khas Bandung Rasa Puncar Tower Piayu Batam such as sorting crackers, frying and filtering crackers. Based on the results of body posture with Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) the three activities of sorting crackers, frying and filtering crackers are high-risk activities are frying activities with a bent position when taking or moving raw cracker materials to the fryer or other places can put excessive pressure on the lower spine (lumbar). If workers often lift materials in a non-ideal position, the risk of back and shoulder muscle injuries increases. The improvements made by the researcher were to design a frying table using anthropometric data with the Front Arm Length (JTD) used for a frying pan diameter of 80 cm. Standing Elbow Height (SEL) is used as a benchmark for table height with a result of 100 cm. Hand Span (RT) is used for the length of the cracker frying table with 240 cm by placing 2 frying pans for 2 cracker frying workers.

Abstract

In the current era, coffee shops have become popular destinations for people to unwind while enjoying a variety of food and beverages. Nevertheless, conventional manual ordering systems often result in lengthy queues and operational inefficiencies. To overcome these challenges, this research focuses on developing an Android-based menu ordering application that utilizes QR Code technology combined with the First Come First Serve (FCFS) method. The application aims to streamline the ordering process for customers without requiring staff assistance while enhancing overall workflow efficiency. By employing QR Code technology, customers can view the menu directly on their devices, place orders, and send them digitally to the system. The FCFS method ensures that orders are processed in the sequence they are received, thereby reducing errors in service prioritization. The application was developed using the Waterfall model of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), which encompasses stages such as requirements analysis, design, implementation, and testing. Testing outcomes reveal that the application significantly improves ordering efficiency, decreases waiting times, and increases user satisfaction. By adopting this system, coffee shops can enhance service quality, optimize operations, and provide customers with a more seamless and enjoyable experience.
