Abstract

Depression is a common phenomenon in Indonesia, particularly among adolescents. Many teenagers today suffer from mild to severe depression as a result of stress from both internal and external factors, which can lead to mental problems and even suicidal thoughts. This fact can be seen from the results of the pretest conducted on students in class 11 Mathematics and Natural Sciences  3, which resulted in eight students who have mild depression categories. Therefore, an effort should be made to reduce the level of depression symptoms by providing group counseling using motivational interviewing techniques so that the level of depression symptoms does not rise to the severe depression level. This study aims to see how effective group counseling with the motivational interviewing technique is in helping class 11 Mathematics and Natural Science 3 of State Islamic High School 2 Bandar Lampung students overcome mild symptoms of depression. This study employed a pre-experimental research method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The data-collecting techniques employed were questionnaires, interviews, observations, and documentation. The purposive sampling technique was utilized to select eight students as the sample from class 11 Mathematics and Natural Sciences 3. The treatment consisted of six meetings, including pretests and posttests. The results revealed a pretest score of 263 with an average of 32.8 and a posttest score of 151 with an average of 18.8. There is a noticeable difference after receiving group counseling with motivational interviewing technique. The results of the T-test and N-gain indicated a decrease in the level of depression experienced by students, as seen by the pretest and posttest scores.

Abstract

Adolescent aggression is a significant public health concern, often influenced by parenting styles and broader socio-environmental factors. This study examines the relationship between parenting practices and adolescent aggression, emphasizing the effects of warm versus harsh parenting. Utilizing a systematic narrative review, literature was sourced from databases including Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science, employing specific inclusion criteria to ensure the reliability of findings. The results indicate that supportive and authoritative parenting styles contribute to lower aggression levels, whereas harsh and neglectful parenting increase the likelihood of aggressive behaviors. Additionally, parental mental health, socio-economic stressors, and peer influences play critical roles in shaping adolescent aggression. The discussion highlights the necessity of policy interventions focusing on parental education, mental health support, and structured community programs to mitigate aggressive tendencies in adolescents. These findings emphasize the importance of a holistic approach that integrates psychological, social, and economic perspectives to develop effective interventions. Future research should prioritize longitudinal studies, cross-cultural comparisons, and community-based intervention assessments to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing adolescent aggression. Addressing these challenges through a multi-pronged strategy can contribute to more effective policies and improved adolescent behavioral outcomes.

Abstract

Psychological interventions play a crucial role in addressing mental health disorders, particularly anxiety and depression. This study examines the effectiveness of various intervention strategies, including cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness techniques, and digital interventions. A systematic literature review was conducted using databases such as Scopus and Google Scholar, with inclusion criteria focusing on studies published in the last five years. Findings indicate that structured psychological interventions significantly reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. Digital interventions, particularly internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy, demonstrate high accessibility and effectiveness, though challenges such as dropout rates and varying responses persist. Social support and personalized approaches further enhance intervention outcomes. The study highlights the importance of integrating mental health services into broader healthcare systems, particularly in resource-limited settings. Policy recommendations include expanding mental health access, training professionals, and implementing culturally tailored interventions. Future research should explore long-term efficacy, optimize digital therapy engagement, and refine personalized treatment strategies. Enhancing accessibility and integrating evidence-based psychological interventions will be key to addressing global mental health challenges.

Abstract

Psychological resilience is a critical factor in mental health and well-being, particularly in the face of increasing global stressors such as the COVID-19 pandemic. This study conducts a comprehensive narrative review to examine the key determinants of resilience, focusing on social support, stress management, cultural influences, and spirituality. A systematic literature search was conducted using Scopus, PubMed, and Google Scholar to identify empirical studies on resilience and its contributing factors. The findings underscore the significant role of social networks in enhancing resilience, demonstrating that individuals with strong support systems experience lower levels of anxiety and depression. Effective stress management techniques, including mindfulness and structured coping strategies, further contribute to resilience by promoting emotional regulation. Additionally, cultural and spiritual factors influence resilience development, with collectivist societies benefiting from community-driven support structures, while individualist cultures rely more on personal coping mechanisms. These results highlight the need for targeted interventions to strengthen resilience across diverse populations. Policymakers must prioritize mental health infrastructure, integrate resilience training into education and workplace settings, and promote digital mental health interventions. Future research should explore longitudinal effects of resilience-building strategies and assess the potential of digital platforms in enhancing psychological resilience. By adopting a multi-dimensional approach, societies can better equip individuals to withstand adversity and improve overall mental well-being.

Abstract

Smartphones have become an integral part of modern education, offering both opportunities and challenges in learning environments. This study explores the impact of smartphone usage on cognitive processes, specifically short-term memory and attention, through a systematic literature review. Utilizing databases such as Scopus, Google Scholar, and PubMed, relevant studies were analyzed to assess the benefits and drawbacks of smartphone integration in education. The findings reveal that structured smartphone use, including gamified learning tools and reinforcement models, enhances engagement and knowledge retention. However, unregulated smartphone use leads to cognitive overload, distractions, and reduced academic performance. The study emphasizes the importance of policy reforms, teacher training, and digital literacy programs to maximize the benefits of mobile technology in education while mitigating its negative effects. Future research should focus on longitudinal studies and cross-cultural comparisons to refine best practices for smartphone-assisted learning. The results underscore the need for balanced technology integration to optimize learning outcomes in an increasingly digitalized academic landscape.

Abstract

Adolescent social media use has become a significant area of study due to its profound impact on identity formation and mental health. This review examines the benefits and risks associated with social media engagement among adolescents, highlighting the role of systemic factors such as social norms, educational policies, and economic disparities. The study employed a systematic literature review, analyzing sources from PubMed, PsycINFO, Scopus, and Google Scholar to identify key trends in adolescent digital engagement. Findings indicate that while social media provides platforms for self-expression and peer support, it also exacerbates issues such as social comparison, cyberbullying, and identity-related stress, particularly among marginalized groups such as LGBTQ+ youth. Furthermore, disparities in digital access and regulatory policies create unequal online experiences, impacting adolescent well-being. The discussion underscores the necessity of digital literacy education, supportive school environments, and policy interventions that promote safe online interactions. To address these challenges, the study recommends comprehensive strategies, including the integration of digital literacy in school curricula, enhanced mental health support systems, and improved content regulation policies. Future research should explore the long-term psychological effects of social media use and conduct cross-cultural comparisons to better understand global digital engagement trends. By implementing these measures, stakeholders can ensure that social media serves as a tool for positive identity development rather than a source of psychological distress.

Abstract

Start-ups are known for their dynamic and flexible work environments, but such flexibility often comes with high workloads and intense expectations. This study investigates employee perceptions of workplace culture in Indonesian start-ups, focusing on flexibility, leadership, work-life balance, and well-being. Using a qualitative case study approach, in-depth interviews were conducted with HR professionals, executives, and employees across various start-ups. Thematic analysis identified key themes, including the dual role of flexibility as both an advantage and a challenge, the significant influence of leadership on employee satisfaction, and persistent difficulties in maintaining work-life balance. Findings indicate that while flexibility enhances innovation and employee autonomy, excessive workload and unclear boundaries often lead to stress and burnout. Leadership style plays a crucial role, as supportive leaders contribute to a positive culture, whereas high-pressure environments can negatively impact well-being. The study highlights the need for structured policies that promote both performance and employee well-being. These insights contribute to the broader understanding of start-up workplace dynamics and suggest that future research should explore cross-industry comparisons and the long-term effects of work stress in start-ups.

Abstract

Parental divorce is a significant life event that affects the emotional well-being of adolescents, often leading to psychological distress, social difficulties, and long-term identity development challenges. This study explores the emotional dynamics of adolescents following parental divorce using a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 12 participants, including adolescents, divorced parents, and counselors. Thematic analysis was employed to identify key patterns in the emotional experiences, coping mechanisms, and support systems of affected adolescents. The results indicate that adolescents exhibit a spectrum of emotional responses, including sadness, frustration, and confusion. While some adolescents utilize adaptive coping strategies such as journaling and peer support, others engage in avoidance behaviors, which may exacerbate their distress. Parental involvement and open communication were found to be pivotal in facilitating better emotional adjustment, whereas the lack of support contributed to prolonged emotional struggles. Furthermore, school-based interventions and professional counseling play crucial roles in mitigating the negative psychological effects of parental divorce. This study contributes to the understanding of adolescent resilience in the face of parental divorce and highlights the need for comprehensive support systems, including parental guidance, peer networks, and institutional interventions. Future research should examine the long-term impact of divorce on adolescent identity and explore culturally sensitive approaches to post-divorce counseling.

Abstract

Children with behavioral disorders, such as ADHD and oppositional defiant disorder, face significant academic and social challenges in primary schools. This study examines parents' perceptions of educational support for these children, highlighting the adequacy of existing programs and the challenges faced in accessing essential services. Using a qualitative case study approach, in-depth interviews were conducted with parents, teachers, and students in Jakarta. The findings reveal that while some schools attempt to provide support, gaps remain in specialized interventions, teacher training, and communication between parents and educational institutions. Parents reported difficulties in obtaining necessary resources and felt inadequately included in decision-making processes regarding their children's education. Teachers also struggled due to limited institutional guidance on managing behavioral disorders. The study underscores the importance of tailored interventions, improved teacher training, and enhanced parental involvement in educational policymaking. The findings contribute to the broader discourse on inclusive education and emphasize the necessity for structured, evidence-based strategies to support children with behavioral disorders. Policymakers and educators must work collaboratively to implement policies that enhance accessibility and inclusivity in primary education. Future research should assess the long-term impact of intervention programs and explore ways to strengthen the partnership between schools and families.
