Abstract

Innovation in packaging for palm sugar products in Tetebatu Selatan Village, Sikur District, East Lombok Regency, aims to enhance local products' added value and competitiveness. This village is known as one of the largest producers of palm sap, which is processed into high-quality palm sugar. However, the current packaging using plastic wrapping makes the product susceptible to damage and moisture. Through community service activities, training and mentoring were provided to palm sugar producers, including techniques for more effective processing and packaging. The outcome of this activity is the development of an attractive and functional pouch package that not only preserves product quality but also increases market appeal. It is hoped that palm sugar products from Tetebatu Selatan Village can compete better in local and national markets and positively impact the local economy.

Abstract

Indonesia has great potential for natural and cultural tourism, contributing significantly to the country's foreign exchange, with revenues of US$14 billion in 2023. Lombok, as a major destination, recorded an increase in foreign tourists by 56.27% in February 2024. Kembang Kuning Village in East Lombok, which was inaugurated as a tourist village in 2019, continues to develop with various achievements and is the focus of tourism development through the Mataram University KKN-PMD program. The purpose of the Mataram University KKN-PMD is to explore the potential of the Kembang Kuning Tourism Village, provide a forum for implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, especially in the Dharma of Community Service, and expand opportunities for tourism development. The implementation of the Mataram University KKN-PMD in Kembang Kuning Village involves providing materials, field surveys, and compiling a work program for 45 days. The main program focuses on digital marketing strategies to increase tourist visits. This village offers stunning natural panoramas, unique waterfalls, and interesting cultural attractions. Local homestays provide educational experiences such as making coconut oil and coffee. KKN-PMD students of Mataram University contribute to village development through various initiatives, including village planning, digital tourism socialization, and village promotion through social media. Activities such as village cleaning, establishing reading corners, and 17 August events are also carried out to increase tourist attractions and community welfare. Kembang Kuning Village, East Lombok, offers natural beauty, authentic culture, and education, making it an ideal destination for tourists. Collaborative efforts from various parties are needed to ensure the sustainability and preservation of the village's culture and environment.

Abstract

Borok Toyang Village is one of the villages located in West Sakra Subdistrict, East Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia. The village consists of eight hamlets, namely Borok Duah Hamlet, Borok Dalem Hamlet, Kondok Hamlet, Montong Kesik Hamlet, Tenges Enges Hamlet, Toyang Hamlet, Dewe Lanji Hamlet, and Peresak Hamlet. Of the eight hamlets, Toyang and Borok are the largest. The residents of Borok Toyang are predominantly farmers, with around 80% of them working in agriculture. They usually grow rice in the rainy season and tobacco in the dry season. However, due to difficulties in growing tobacco, some farmers have switched to growing vegetables such as chilies and tomatoes. In addition to farming, about 25% of the residents also manage private farms, mainly goats. Despite the great potential in agriculture and animal husbandry, the Borok Toyang community faces several challenges, such as suboptimal manure management and conventional waste disposal without adequate treatment. The results of this empowerment contain the awareness of the community about the current condition of waste, conducting a Zero Waste lifestyle movement to minimize waste by providing them with waste facilities, and sorting waste to be utilized which can later help the community a little to make crafts from the waste.

Abstract

Teniga Village is one of the villages with coconut plantation potential in North Lombok Regency. Currently, Teniga village itself is faced with the problem of stunting. Responding to the challenge of stunting, which is a significant health problem in Teniga Village, the KKN-PMD team from Mataram University conducted an innovation project to utilize "blondo" to make anti-stunting cakes. Blondo is the residue or dregs of coconut oil (Lombok people usually call it tai lale) which is rich in essential nutrients such as protein, vitamins, and minerals, making it one of the suitable ingredients to prevent stunting. This innovation aims to increase public awareness about the nutritional benefits of blondo and encourage its use as a daily snack to improve children's nutrition. The work program includes nutrition education to local communities, as well as distribution of cookies and educational leaflets. It demonstrates how local resources can be effectively utilized to address public health challenges, and encourages sustainable solutions within village communities

Abstract

Malaka Village, located in Pemenang District, North Lombok Regency, is a village with significant tourism potential, particularly through its stunning beaches. However, this potential has not been fully optimized, especially in terms of tourism product diversification and the development of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). This article discusses the implementation of the Community Empowerment Service Learning Program (KKN PMD) aimed at empowering the residents of Malaka Village to develop their tourism potential and local MSMEs. The KKN activities include various programs in the fields of tourism, culinary arts, education, and environmental conservation, all of which are designed to support sustainable village development. Through a participatory approach, this program has successfully enhanced the community’s capacity to manage and promote local tourism, as well as to create culinary product diversification based on local marine resources. The results of this program show a significant increase in tourist visits and community income, as well as heightened environmental awareness among the villagers. Consequently, Malaka Village is expected to develop into a sustainable and widely recognized tourism village, both nationally and internationally.

Abstract

Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) are a form of community service activities carried out by universities. In KKN activities carried out in Buwun Mas Village, Sekotong District, West Lombok Regency, a group of Mataram University students and lecturers carried out various activities with the main target of developing the potential of the blue economy. The aim of implementing this KKN activity is to answer various social issues found, including in terms of education, health and fisheries. Tempat Pendaratan Ikan (TPI) have an important role in the fisheries supply chain, functioning as landing, handling and distribution centers for marine catches. This research aims to analyze the function and sustainability of TPI in the Buwun Mas area and its impact on the local fishermen's economy. The research methods used include field surveys, interviews with fishermen, and analysis of secondary data related to fisheries production and local economic contribution. The research results show that well-managed TPI not only increases the quality and selling value of the catch, but also contributes significantly to increasing fishermen's income and local food security. However, challenges related to inadequate infrastructure and climate change impacting fishing patterns need to be addressed to ensure the sustainability of TPI in the future. Therefore, a more comprehensive management strategy and the application of environmentally friendly technology are needed to support the sustainability of the fisheries sector in Indonesia

Abstract

Composting is one of the best ways to manage organic waste. The purpose of this study was to study how the addition of rice husks to the process and quality of compost made from dry leaves. Rice husks were chosen as an additive because they are easy to find and have the ability to absorb moisture. In this study, various proportions of rice husks were added to the mixture of dry leaf materials. During the composting process, temperature, humidity, pH, and carbon and nitrogen levels were observed. The results showed that the addition of rice husks significantly affected the process rate and quality of the compost, with certain proportions of rice husks producing compost with an ideal ratio. The addition of rice husks was also shown to accelerate the composting time and increase the stability and structure of the compost. Therefore, the use of rice husks as an additive in composting can be suggested as an effective and sustainable solution in managing organic waste.
