Abstract

The present study aims to investigate the strategies employed by students to uphold academic integrity and demonstrate responsibility when utilizing artificial intelligence tools in the research proposal writing process. A descriptive qualitative design with a phenomenological orientation was utilized in this research. The design was to investigate the lived experiences of participants. The subjects of this study consisted of three intentionally chosen undergraduate students from the English Education Study Program at a university in Toraja. They were engaged in the preparation of research proposals utilizing artificial intelligence support. Data collection involved semi-structured interviews and direct observations. The analysis was conducted through iterative qualitative techniques such as data reduction, coding, theme categorization, data display, and conclusion drawing with verification. The findings reveal ongoing issues related to academic integrity and transparency, particularly regarding the inconsistent citation of sources produced by artificial intelligence and differing approaches to paraphrasing. The findings show that the participants exhibited ethical behavior by paraphrasing and verifying outputs. on the other hand, they also relied heavily on tools without adequate critical assessment, prompting inquiries into accountability for content accuracy. The findings indicate that the ethical application of artificial intelligence in scholarly writing necessitates a combination of ethical understanding and technical proficiency. It follows that educational programs are required to integrate teachings on the ethical utilization of digital resources, while institutions must establish transparent policies to maintain integrity in student writing.

Abstract

Oral presentations require the effective communication of ideas while managing interpersonal dynamics and institutional expectations. This study explored the types of speech acts employed by an EFL learner during an English oral presentation and examined the dynamics of power relations found in the discourse. The research employed a qualitative design using the Interaction Analysis Method (IAM). The data were obtained from a documentary recording of a speech performance, available on the YouTube link for the National English Speech Contest hosted by the English Education of Universitas Timor. The participant focused on the first-place winner as the subject of analysis. The speech was transcribed and analyzed using Austin’s and Searle’s frameworks of speech acts. The findings reveal that the speech includes five types of speech acts: assertive (47%), directive (24%), expressive (13%), commissive (11%), and declarative (5%). The dominant use of assertive and directive speech acts shows that the speaker's primary goal was to inform and persuade the audience. Furthermore, the data identified several power markers, such as epistemic power, deontic power, affective power, moral commitment power, and performative power. These power markers demonstrate how the speaker constructs authority, influences the audience, and negotiates relational dynamics through strategic language choice. The study enhances comprehension of pragmatic competence in the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) context and has pedagogical implications for teaching public speaking and presentation skills.

Abstract

This study examines physics and mathematics education students’ feedback on the implementation of AI enhanced Computer Assisted Language Instruction in teaching English for Sciences. As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into higher education, understanding students’ experiences in using AI supported language learning within discipline specific contexts is essential for effective pedagogical development. This study employed a qualitative descriptive design involving twenty undergraduate students consisting of ten physics education students and ten mathematics education students at STKIP DDI Pinrang. Data were collected through semi structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns in student responses. The findings indicate that students generally have positive perceptions of AI enhanced CALI in English learning. They value features such as personalized feedback, accessibility, and support for vocabulary development and basic grammar. However, several limitations were identified, particularly in the ability of AI to explain discipline specific concepts and support advanced academic writing and scientific communication. Differences in responses were also influenced by students’ levels of English proficiency and familiarity with digital technology. This study concludes that AI enhanced CALI has strong potential to improve English for Sciences instruction when supported by appropriate pedagogical strategies and human interaction. The findings contribute to the development of technology integrated ESP learning and provide insights for optimizing AI use in higher education contexts.

Abstract

This study investigates the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) competence of pre-service teachers during their English Language Teaching (ELT) practicum using a mixed-method design. Five pre-service teachers participated in a one-month teaching practicum at MTs N 2 Banyuwangi. Quantitative data were collected through a 15-item TPACK self-assessment questionnaire, measuring four core domains: Technological Knowledge (TK), Pedagogical Knowledge (PK), Content Knowledge (CK), and the integrative TPACK construct. Qualitative data were obtained from document analysis of lesson plans, instructional materials, teaching media, and reflective reports. The results show that participants demonstrated strong CK (Mean = 4.3) and solid PK (Mean = 4.05), while TK emerged as the weakest domain (Mean = 3.3). The integrative TPACK score (Mean = 3.55). These findings indicate clear differences across TPACK domains, with CK being the strongest and TK the weakest after the one-month practicum. The study contributes to understanding TPACK development in Indonesian ELT practicum settings and underscores the importance of institutional support for meaningful technology integration. Abstract

The aims of study is to describe the challenges faced by teachers in facing the changes in the era of globalization and technology in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era at Darussalamah Junior High School (SMPS Darussalamah). The research method used was descriptive qualitative and refers to a case study. Data collection was conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data validity was validated using diligent observation and triangulation of techniques and sources. The results of the study indicate that teachers face several challenges in the changing era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era at Darussalamah Junior High School. One challenge is the need for digital literacy, where teachers must improve their understanding and knowledge of technology to implement this knowledge in the teaching process. Another challenge is the ability of teachers to innovate in teaching methods in accordance with existing developments. Another challenge comes from students, where student morale has been eroded due to changes in technological globalization, and students' social engagement with their environment has also been eroded. This includes not only fellow students but also a lack of respect for their responsibilities as learners.
