Abstract

This survey, carried out in Cilacap, Banyumas, and Banjarnegara, all in Central Java, attempts to identify students’ motivation in entering traditional Muslim boarding schools and their knowledge orientation. Primary data were obtained from interviews with the students and the teachers of the Muslim boarding schools, religious leaders, and other resource persons related to the schools. Secondary data were in the form of documents, including institutional documents, curricula, and relevant research findings. The statistical data show that 59% of the students were studying at formal educational institutions, planned to further their study, and tended to choose universities as their first priority; 38% placed universities for Islamic studies as their second priority; and 3% gave no response. The students tended to choose universities because they thought that university graduates would get jobs more easily, because they had planned it since childhood, or because they wanted to better prepare for this changing world.

Abstract

Non-Achievement Sports Program to Improve Students Quality. Our college students should be the ones who are productive, i.e. academically potential and physically and mentally healthy, in order that they can compete in this globalization era. Many efforts should be made to improve learners' physical fitness. One of them can be in the form of non-achievement sports program called sports for all. This program needs to be implemented continously at all department of universities throughout Indonesia.

Abstract

Hampir separoh dari jumlah anak-anak di Asia Tenggara tidak dapat menyelesaikan pendidikannya di sekolah dasar. Di antara mereka bahkan ada yang belum tersentuh oleh pendidikan. Di Indonesia keadaan ini menonjol terutama di desa terpencil. Diperlukan penanganan yang logis dan proporsional agar mereka dapat segera mengenyam pendidikan. Karena daerah terpencil memiliki ciri tersendiri, penyelenggaraan pendidikannya memerlukan pendekatan yang khusus pula, baik kurikulumnya, pengorganisasiannya maupun sistem layanan pendidikan dan pengajarannya. Alternatif bentuk layanannya antara lain adalah sekolah berasrama, sistem guru kunjung, kelas jauh, SD kecil, dan sekolah terapung.

Abstract

 Salah satu bentuk pendidikan dasar di Indonesia adalah sekolah dasar. Sebagai institusi yang kompleks, sekolah dasar tidak akan menjadi baik dengan sendirinya, melainkan melalui proses perubahan organisasional tertentu, yaitu dengan mengimplementasikan ide, program, layanan, metode, teknologi, proses, dan komponen-komponen sistem pendidikan lainnya yang baru dan secara kualitatif berbeda dengan keadaan sebelumnya. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mendeskripsikan proses perubahan di sekolah dasar yang baik. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, diperoleh tiga kesimpulan teoretik tentang proses, faktor-faktor yang berpengaruh terhadap keberhasilan proses, dan peran agen perubahan dalam proses implementasi inovasi pendidikan di sekolah dasar yang baik.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the implementation of management of teaching reform in the Islamic Elementary School(Madrasah Ibtidaiyah). This study focused on the process and model of reform management applied in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Jenderal Sudirman, Malang. A qualitative design was implemented in this study by using a phenomenological approach. Data were analyzed inductively with analysis of domain and taxonomy. It was found out that the teaching reform applied school-based management. The reform was concerning with personnel, infrastructure, school environment, and teaching-learning process. The process of the reform was managed through planning, implementation, evaluation, and institutionalization.

Abstract

Penelitian tindakan ini bertujuan untuk menumbuhkan kreativitas, mengembangkan kepribadian warga belajar dan mengaktifkan kegiatan Pramuka kecamatan sesuai dengan ketentuan yang terdapat dalam buku petunjuk Pramuka. Kegiatan berlangsung tiga tahun yang berlangsung sejak 1996. Dalam kegiatan ini penelitian dilaksanakan pertahun sesuai dengan tenaga dan dana yang ada. Pada 1996-1997 Pramuka cukup efektif dalam menumbuhkan kreativitas dan mengembangkan kepribadian jika programnya bersifat rekreatif dan produktif, seperti APE dan menyablon, tetapi dalam satu tahun belum berhasil mengaktifkan kegiatan Pramuka kecamatan sesuai dengan buku petunjuk. Program pemahaman internasional, perdamaian dan kerjasama lebih mudah dilaksanakan apabila kegiatan Pramuka dapat diaktifkan.

Abstract

Professionalism and empowerment of teachers are essential in improving the quality of the national education. As supported by many research findings, teachers are determining factors in students’ achievement. This article proposes ways of developing teacher professionalism by integrating the programs in teacher education and the supervision of teachers through the establishment of Teacher Quality Certification, which periodically evaluates teacher performance. This implies that teachers should be appointed on the basis of an agreed term, not on a life-long term as implemented in the current system.

Abstract

This classroom action research was intended to improve teacher’s competence in helping children learn science. Learning-cycle approach was implemented in the third grade of Kepanjenlor IV Elementary School in Blitar. The class teacher graduated from DIII program in Civics and had been teaching science just for one year. The data were collected through observation and interview. The results indicate that the approach improved the teacher’s competence in developing instructional design, which was of very-good category, and in helping children learn science, which was of good category.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the construction process of achievement test used at UM’s Laboratory junior high school and to find out the validity, reliability, discriminating power, and difficulty index of the tests. The achievement test analyzed were those used in these subject: Bahasa Indonesia, English, Science, Mathematics, Social Science, and civics. The results show that construction process was good, except for item analysis. Additionally, most tests had good validity and reliability, but some tests had low discriminating power.

Abstract

Education in Islamic Perspectives: A Review of Muhammad Natsir's Thought. Natsir's thought in education is inevitably related to his social, political, and religious background, although his religious comprehension is dominant. According to Natsir, education is an effort to build the human beings physically and spiritually to be a perfect one. The physical and spiritual perfection is indicated by the worldly-material need fulfillment and the hereafter-spiritual need fulfillment combined. The only way to the ultimate goal is tauhid as a foundation. The objective of education is to create generations possessing independence, creativity, and spirit to do what others did not do. Education needs to avoid creating generations dependent on others.
