Abstract

John Dewey's Philosophy of Education and Its Implications to National Education. John Dewey is most productive educator-thinker in the United States. Sometimes his philosophy of education is called pragmatism in terms of his intention on practical utilities for human lives. Thinking seems to be a central focus in his theory and an instrument for measuring progresses so that his thought is also called instrumentalism and progressivism. His most important thought is democratization in education. Beside its negative aspects, the thought contains positive aspects valuable for developing our national education based on the Pancasila.

Abstract

This classroom action research examines the implementation of jigsaw methods in improving students' understanding of multicultural concepts in social science subjects. Carried out in three cycles of action, this study involved 46 fourth-grade students. The data collected through observation, documentation, and interviews were descriptively analyzed. The results show that jigsaw methods improved the students' understanding of multicultural concepts in social science.

Abstract

Anak berbakat merupakan potensi sumber daya manusia yang penting bagi pembangunan. Apabila tidak mendapat layanan pendidikan yang memadai, anak berbakat cenderung berprestasi di bawah potensinya. Penelitian ini ingin mengetahui prevalensi dan karakteristik anak berbakat intelektual di SD Negeri favorit di Kotamadya Malang. Data dikumpulkan dengan tes inteligensi dan angket. Analisis data dilakukan dengan statistik persentase. Diperoleh hasil bahwa prevalensi anak berbakat intelektual di SD Negeri favorit di Kotamadya Malang adalah sebanyak 119 orang atau 15,23 persen. Pada umumnya anak berbakat intelektual menunjukkan karakteristik positif, dan hanya sedikit anak berbakat intelektual yang menunjukkan karakteristik negatif.

Abstract

Feedbacks has three components: feedbacks are given after learners show certain behavior; the feedbacks can be observed by the learners, and feedbacks described the influence of the learners’ behavior. Proponents of behavioristic psychology view feedbacks as reward and punishment which can automatically strengthen or weaken the tendency to give certain response. Proponents of cognitive psychology view feedbacks as information, and learners interpret and use these inputs to change what they already know.

Abstract

Analytic Approach to the Philosophy of Adult Education. In their philosophical activities, analytic philosophers emphasize the analysis of concepts, arguments, slogans, statements and normative philosophy in order to make normative or descriptive statements about the world, human beings, and human behaviors and actions. Analytic philosophy of adult education utilizes conceptual analysis approach in elucidating the concepts of adult education. Included in the concepts are the concept of adult education, objectives of adult education, and the process of education.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to construct a test measuring students’ ability in playing volley ball. The sample were taken from male students of Physical Education Department at State University of Malang using cluster proportional random sampling. Tests and observation were utilized to collect the data. The Pearson product moment correlations and the Wherry-Doollitle multiple correlations suggest that the test items of serving and down passing were reliable and valid to measure the students’ ability in playing volley ball.

Abstract

This study was aimed at describing the increased ability of the third grade students in story writing through the personal journal writing instruction at the elementary school of Bendogerit IV, Blitar Municipality. Nine students were chosen as the subjects of this study and they were divided into three categories of low, middle, and high achievers. The results of this study showed that the low-category students increased their writing competence of 50%, 40%, and 50% respectively. In the same way, the middle-category students progressed at different levels of 68%, 68%, and 45% respectively. Similarly, students of the fast category improved the writing ability of 45%, 72%, and 65% respectively.

Abstract

Belajar adalah proses perubahan tingkahlaku yang relatif tetap meskipun tidak selalu positif. Hanya pendidikan atau pembimbinganlah yang mengarahkan proses belajar ke kualitas yang positif. Keterampilan adalah perurutan atau sekuensi gerak perseptual-motorik yang terorganisasikan dengan baik. Dalam psikologi belajar ada sejumlah prinsip dasar dan metode khas belajar ranah keterampilan. Nilai ganjaran memiliki peranan penting dalam memperlancar dan memantapkan belajar.

Abstract

Study on Educational Costs in Elementary Schools. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of educational cost on the educational quality. A descriptive analytic approach was applied in this study. Data were gathered by questionnaire, interview, observation, and documentary study in all Public Elementary Schools in Kabupaten Bandung. The data were then analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively by correlation and regression. It could be concluded from data analyses that the cost had a little impact upon educational quality improvement in elementary schools. The were some components of cost significantly contributing to the learning-teaching process and to the quality of learning outcomes.

Abstract

Quality teachers, definitely required by competency-based curriculum (CBC), are expected to equip students with life skills to optimize their potentials. Geography teachers are also expected to do so, since Geography is one of the subjects that enables life skills to develop in order that students can learn how to deal with life problems. Through CBC, Geography teachers can train students in life-skill development, resulting in more quality human resources. Though unable to solve all the existing problems, better quality teachers contribute to the improvement of human resources.
