Abstract

ABSTRACT The use of mercury in gold processing can cause health effect, such as incident of mercury poisoning. Based on preliminary studies of 10 workers mining at Cisarua Village Nanggung Subdistrict, there were 8 workers who have mercury poisoning. This research was a quantitative research with cross sectional approach. The samples of this study were 40 workers of illegal gold mining at Cisarua Village, Nanggung Subdistrict. The samples were taken by using accidental sampling technique. The research data was collected by interview, observational and measurement of mercury level in hair of workers. The independent variables in this study were age, nutritional status, working period per year, working time in a day, working activity, and consumption of fish. The dependent variable was the incidence of mercury poisoning. The data were processed by using independent t, mann- whitney u test and chi square test at α 5%. The results of this research indicate that were 24 workers (60%) have mercury poisoning. Then, based on the results of bivariate analysis was known that there were two independent variables have significant correlation with mercury poisoning. That variables were working period per year (p value=0,0005) and working time in a day (p value=0,035). Key words: mercury, poisoning, workers, maining

Abstract

Sampah adalah sesuatu yang tidak digunakan, tidak disenangi atau sesuatu yang dibuang yang berasal dari kegiatan manusia dan tidak terjadi dengan sendirinya. Pemulung sangat erat kaitannya dengan sampah, karena pekerjaanya berhubungan dengan sampah. Pemulung sangat beresiko terhadap penyakit yang berhubungan dengan sampah terutama keluhan kulit. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan personal hygiene (pengetahuan tentang personal hygiene, kebersihan kulit, kebersihan tangan,kaki dan kuku dan kebersihan rambut) dengan keluhan kulit pada pemulung dan gambaran fasilitas sanitasi (toilet) di TPA Terjun Kelurahan Terjun Kecamatan Medan Marelan Tahun 2013. Jenis penelitian adalah survai analitik dengan rancangan penelitian cross sectional study. Populasi penelitian adalah seluruh pemulung di TPA Terjun sebanyak 300 orang dan sampel dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 75 orang. Hasil penelitian diperoleh paling banyak pengetahuan tentang personal hygiene dan kebersihan tangan, kaki dan kuku masuk dalam kategori tidak baik, sedangkan kebersihan kulit dan kebersihan rambut masuk dalam kategori baik. Hasil uji menunjukkan ada hubungan yang bermakna antara pengetahuan tentang personal hygiene (p=0,022), kebersihan kulit (p=0,006), kebersihan tangan, kaki dan kuku (p=0,013), kebersihan rambut (p=0,001) dengan keluhan kulit. Fasilitas sanitasi di TPA terjun yaitu toilet, masuk dalam kategori tidak memenuhi syarat kesehatan karena jumlahnya tidak cukup, tidak ada wastafel dan peturasan. Disarankan pada Dinas Kebersihan Kota Medan agar memperbaiki fasilitas sanitasi khususnya toilet yang ada di Tempat Pembuangan Akhir (TPA) Terjun, sehingga menjadi fasilitas sanitasi yang memenuhi syarat kesehatan. Dan disarankan pada pemulung agar meningkatkan kebersihan diri, sehingga terhindar dari keluhan kulit. Kata Kunci: Keluhan Kulit, Personal Hygiene, Fasilitas Sanitasi

Abstract

ABSTRACT Sipange Julu Villages is one of villages in District Sayur Matinggi regency of Tapanuli Selatan. Sipange Julu villages have low family latrine ownership is only equal to 19,0 % of the 184 heads of families living in the village. Research conducted aimed to determine the characteristics (level of education and income levels) and the relationship between the respondents' level of knowledge, attitudes, habits of respondents and the role of health officer to the ownership family latrine in the village. Types of analytic study with a cross sectional study design. Respondents in this study is the head of the family who resides in the village of Sipange Julu totaling 63 people . Though the data obtained in using the chi square test and Fisher's exact. The results obtained that there is a relationship between the role of health officer (p= 0.040 (p< 0.05)) with the family latrine ownership and there is no relationship between the level of knowledge (p= 0.082 (p< 0.05)), attitude (p= 0.741 (p> 0.05)) and habits (p= 0.486 (p> 0.05)) of respondents with family latrine ownership. It is recommended that conducted cross-sectoral cooperation between government, health centers and other related sectors with the community to raise a family in the village latrine coverage Sipange Julu, enhance the role of health officer in raising public awareness about the importance of family latrines and sanitary latrines eligible family health, and the need further research on other factors relating to the ownership of the family latrine with a variable that has not been investigated in this study and different respondent. Keywords: Family Latrine Ownership

Abstract

One of the efforts made in the public health is privy maintain and improve the health of the community in the form of disease prevention , and restoration of health by government and society. Marjandi Tongah village is the village that has the lowest presence of latrines in the district of Gunung Meriah Deli serdang , and always use the river , ditch the sewage / faeces . Latrines is home throw human faeces so that bacteria in the dirty does not meet the environment, then the environment will look clean, so it has a beautiful aesthetic values, as well as not causing germs. This study aims to determine the factors associated with a participation of family latrines in the village Marjandi Tongah. The method is cross sectiona design. The population in this study families have not family latrines. The sample of the study was the total population of as many as 55 families, Analysis of the data using univariate and bivariate analysis using chi – square at 9 5% confidence level. The results showed variable knowledge ( p = 0.003 ) no relationship with the participation of family latrines. Attitude variable ( p = 0.0001 ) there is relationship with participation of family latrines. Variable availability of clean water ( p = 0.0001) there is a relationship with a participation of family latrines As well as the role of health workers variable ( p = 0.019 ) no relationship with the participation of family latrines. Health care workers are advised to Puskesmas Gunung Meriah and village chief counsel to increase its role in the community in the use and utilazation of latrines in the village Marjandi Tongah District of Gunung Meriah. Abstract

ABSTRACT Tea is the most consumed beverage either cold or hot. One kind of them is bag tea products. Tea bag is wrapped in smooth porous paper and heat resistant. In general, the paper uses chlorine as a bleach, it is the reason for necessary to study the chlorine content in water of tea bag. The purpose of this study was to determine the chlorine content in water of tea bag based on temperature and time. The kind of this study is descriptive survey. The object of study is the water of tea bag mixing in drinking water then examined in laboratorium of Balai Teknik Kesehatan Lingkungan Dan Pemberantasan Penyakit Menular Kelas I Medan by using spectrophotometric method. Based on the findings, there is the chlorine content of tea bag water at 400-1000C with immersion time respectively 1 minutes, 3 minutes and 5 minutes. The survey results revealed that the chlorine content increased by the increasing of temperature and time. The chlorine content is 1.35 mg/250 ml in temperature of 900c with 3 minutes immersion and chlorine content 0.2817 mg/250 ml in temperature of 800c with 3 minutes. Hence, it is concluded that the increasing of temperature and time will increase the chlorine in the tea bag water. It can be harmful health both in short and long term. According to Permenkes RI No. 492/Menkes/Per/IV/2010 that chlorine levels in drinking water is 1.25 mg/250 ml. It is suggested for frequent consumption of tea using brewed tea.   Keywords : Chlorine, tea bags, temperature, time, spectrophotometry

Abstract

Food and beverage are important things for human being as one of principles commodity for survive and food and beverage contain any compound. The exixtence of bacteria E. coli is an indication of contamination of human feces and contaminated by the dirty substance. Urban village of Lauchi, sub-district of Medan Tuntungan is one of areas that sell the coconut water with more of consumer. Coconut water is favourited by consumer that consist of water and the flesh of coconut that mixed with sugar, orange, and ice. The research was a descriptive study. The object of this research was to know the content of E. coli in 8 samples coconut water and the implementation of hygiene sanitation. This research found the content of E. coli in all samples (8.1-240 ml samples) of coconut water and hygiene sanitation of coconut processing at urban village of Lauchi sub district of Medan Tuntungan. The study found that all of hygiene sanitation of coconut water processing at urban village of Lauchi did not fulfill the health requirement for 8 people. The content E. coli on coconut water at urban village of Lauchi did not fulfill the health requirement as mentioned in Regulation of health Minister of RI No. 492/Menkes/PER/IV/2010 concerning to the drink water quality standard for 0 per 100 ml sample. It is suggested to do the extension and supervision for the application of hygiene sanitation of the coconut water and the supervision on the important of the application of hygiene sanitation of beverage especially the coconut water to fulfill the health standard. Abstract

Unsafe acts still present in PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV Unit Bah Butong altough safety program like procedures works, risk management and exposure to hazards has implementation. The aim of the study was to determine the relationship implementation of safety programs with unsafe action on workers PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV Unit Usaha Teh Bah Butong in 2013. Design this research is cross sectional,  and sampel are 65 people. Analysis of the data used is univariat. The results showed that unsafe acts by employees of PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV Unit Usaha Teh Bah Butong of 65 respondents who are at risk of moderate (Moderate Risk) as many as 23 employees using defective tools, 21 employees were not wearing PPE, 16 employees make improvements when the engine is running , 15 employees redundant load something, 11 employees put something out of place, 5 employees redundant lifting weights, 5 employees perform any work position, 3 employees released safety device and 1 employee receive call while working. Based on the results of the study are expected to SMK3 parts to improve its supervision of production employees. Keywords :    Implementation of Safety Program, Unsafe Act

Abstract

Hazards at the workplace like dust exposure could interference the respiratory functionimpairment effects. Several factors of the worker’s characteristics itself could affect the lungcondition such as age, smoking habits, medical history, personal protective equipment, nutritionalstatus, exercise habits and working period. The purpose of this research is to know the descriptionof the characteristics and lung forced of vital capacity of workers at hot mix asphalt production inPT. Sabaritha Perkasa Abadi 2014.This research is a descriptive research with cross-sectional design, with sample is 12 people(Total Sampling). To analize of data is using descriptive statistics where each variable of theresearch will be presented in the form of frequency distribution table The results of researchshowed that 6 workers (50.0 %) aged less than 32 years old and 6 (50.0 %) of workers aged over32 years, all workers have no history of pulmonary disease, 11 workers (91.7 %) are smoker and 10workers (90.9 %) are light smokers, 9 workers (75.0 %) wearing PPE (Personal ProtectionEquipment) in workplace , 7 workers (58,3 %) worked under 1 years, 8 workers (66.7 %) havenormal nutritional status, 11 workers (91.7 %) not exercising, and the results of forced vitalcapacity test showed that all workers had normal forced vital capacity.The suggestion are the company have to make a smoking ban in workplace, provide PPE forworkers and make all workers to wear it, do the workers examination in regularly, workers have tostop smoke and doing of exercise regularly.Keywords : Characteristics, Lung Forced Vital Capacity, Hotmix Asphalt.

Abstract

ABSTRACT   According to Minister of RI No.1098/MENKES/VII/2003, about sanitary hygiene requirements of the food and restaurant, food handlers are people who are directly related to food and equipment ranging from preparation, cleaning, processing, transporting to the presentation. Sanitation is an important part of food processing that must be performed well. A food handlers must be of sound mind should be spiritual, not suffering from infectious diseases or as a carrier. One method of medical examination of food handlers is to use a rectal swab test is the examination by smear at around the anus and perianal around. Rectal swab on a 5-star and 2-star hotel to be done, because the 5-star and 2-star hotel providing accommodation services, food and beverage services, and other services for the public. The purpose of the research to find out the drinks and food sanitation hygiene inspection results rectal swab on food handlers at Hotel Arya Duta Medan and The Palace Inn. Type a descriptive study, a population of 12 people. The sampling technique is the total sampling. The results found that the food and beverage hygiene sanitation both at 100 %, of rectal swab for food handlers negative, age < 30 years 11 ( 91.67 % ), 31-50 years 1 person ( 8.33 % ), Education Academy / PT as much as 9 people ( 75 % ) and high School / equivalent 3 people ( 25 % ), male gender 12 people ( 100 % ), food handlers course yes 10 people ( 83.33 % ) and 2 ( 16.67 % ), long working > 4 years 8 people ( 66.67 % ) and 1-4 years of 4 people ( 33.33 % ), routine periodic health examinations performed 12 people. Suggested for hotel manager who becomes the object of research in the management of beverage and food sanitation inspection of the rectal swabs of food handlers in order to maintain the quality and sanitary quality of foods and beverages that meet the health requirements. Abstract

Consumer’s product has become daily needed. But most of the consumer’s product like educational toys has contaminated by heavy metals Pb. Pb in educational toys commonly from paints and the raw materials. Toys that contaminated by heavy metals Pb could be asorb by the body of kids by putting the toys to in their mouths. Parents and teachers take a big role to choose toys and monitoring children while they are playing around. The aim of this study is to identity a number of heavy metal Pb and the parents and teacher’s knowladge about heavy metal Pb in educational toys for children under five years old. This research will be held in kindergarten at Kecamatan Medan Denai. This study is a descriptive which the parents population and sample is about 30 people taken by total sampling technique. Population of teachers is about 37 people with total samples is 30 people got by the simple random sampling technique. Data will be analyzed descriptively in tables and narration. The study found that (75%) of educational toys for children under five years old consisting 1,48-8,05 ppm of Pb. It means Pb is still under value limit. Parent’s knowladge about Pb in educational toys for chldren under five years old is in intermediate level about (33,3%) and in good level about (66,7%). Teacher’s knowladge about Pb in educational toys is inintermediate level of knowladge, that is about (6,7%) and in good level about (93,3%). The conclusion of this study is found a lot of educational toys for children under five years consisting Pb and the parent’s knowladge is in good level. Suggested to recognize the characteristic of educational toys that consisting Pb. So the kindergarten  teacher and parents must be look after the children when they are playing.
