Abstract

Minyak atsiri peppermint, copaiba, dan wintergreen memiliki khasiat sebagai antinyeri dan antiradang yang dapat bermanfaat untuk meringankan gangguan tulang sendi dan otot, dan meredakan sakit kepala serta memberikan rasa nyaman. Minyak atsiri umumnya digunakan dalam bentuk sediaan topikal. Bentuk sediaan balsem yang biasanya lengket memerlukan inovasi baru berupa sediaan balsem stick. Balsem dalam bentuk stick dapat menjadikan penggunaanya lebih praktis, karena dapat langsung diaplikasikan pada kulit tanpa menyebabkan lengket. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan sediaan balsem stick minyak atsiri yang sesuai dengan syarat mutu fisik. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan membuat formula balsem stick menjadi tiga formula dengan variasi konsentrasi Cera alba dan adepslanae 10:5: 20:10 dan 30:15sebagai basis yang kemudian dilakukan evaluasi sediaan balsem stick meliputi uji organoleptis, homogenitas, pH, titik lebur, daya sebar, dan daya lekat untuk mendapatkan formula sediaan yang paling baik. Campuran minyak atsiri peppermint, copaiba, dan wintergreen dapat diformulasikan ke dalam sediaan balsem stick dan sediaan dengan Konsentrasi cera alba - Adeps lanae F1 (10% - 5%) dan F2 (20% - 10%) sebagai basis yang menghasilkan sediaan balsem stick dengan mutu fisik yang baik dan sesuai dengan persyaratan balsem stick yang baik.

Abstract

One of the medical plants is Jatropha plant which has good antimicrobial activity for gram negative-positive bacteria. The purpose of this research is to find out the formulation and ability of jatropha leaves extract liquid soap. This type of research is experimental research. working procedures consist of sampling, plant identification; sample processin, extracing, making liquid soap and evaluating liquid dosage form (organoleptic, pH test, high foam, specific gravity). Organolpetic test results of all formulas have a liquid and viscous form. The white base smells like a scented rose, formula 5% wa green, formula 10% was dark brown and formula 15% was dark brown; formula 5%, 10%, 15% special odor of Jatropha leaves. Base pH test 9.7; formula (5%, 10% 15%), 9.6; 9.8;9.5. base foam height tet 61.53 mm, formula (5%, 10% 15%) shich is 70.51mm; 56.81 mm; 76.47 mm. Base specific gravity test 0,79/ml, formula (5%, 10% 15%) namely 1,01g/ml; 1..01g/ml; 1.01g/ml. This study can be concluded that the quality of liquid soap of Jatropha leaves ethanol extract meets the requirements of good liquid soap accordance with the standards set by SNI 06-4085-1996 namely organoleptic tests, pH test, high foam test, and specific gravity test

Abstract

Lip balm is a preparation that is applied to the lips to function as a moisturizer by forming a layer of oil that does not mix on the surface of the lips. Strawberry (Fragraria) functions as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory so that the strawberry fruit extract can be used as a moisturizer and will be maximized when used in the form of cosmetic products. The aim was to determine whether the ethanol extract of strawberry fruit (Fragraria) can be used in lip balm preparations and the difference in the ethanol extract concentration of strawberry fruit (fragraria) could affect the physical properties of lip balm preparations and determine the concentration of what lip balm preparations preferred by respondents. Strawberry fruit is obtained in the mountainous area of Tegal district. The extraction method used in this research is the maceration method with a concentration of 5%, 10% and 15%. The evaluation of lip balm preparations includes organoleptic test, pH test, irritation test, preference test, homogeneity test, smear test, melting point test. The results showed that the lip balm preparation of strawberry fruit extract (Fragraria) had no effect on the physical properties of the lip balm preparation. Formulas 1, 2 and 3 produce good physical properties, which include organoleptic tests, homogeneity tests, pH tests, melting point tests, irritation tests, and spreadability tests. Based on the preference test which includes color, aroma and moisture, formula 1 is the most preferred formula with a preference for color and aroma as much as 90% with the humidity level of 80%

Abstract

Antibiotics are widely prescribed drugs. The relatively high and inappropriate use of antibiotics can cause various problems consequently become a global threat to health, especially due to bacterial resistance. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of students’ knowledge on the use of antibiotics and correlate between the level of knowledge of antibiotics with the frequency of using antibiotics without a prescription for students at Politeknik Tiara Bunda The study used a descriptive method with cross-sectional design. It was conducted from May to June, 2017. Respondents were 250 students from 6 faculties at Politeknik Tiara Bunda, selected by using proportional sampling technique. The results of this study showed that 52.4% of the students at Politeknik Tiara Bunda had moderate, 27.2% good and 20.4% less of knowledge about antibiotics, while the frequency of use of antibiotics without prescription at 44.8%. Chi-square test results showed that the students’ level of knowledge was affected by origin of faculty (p < 0.05), whereas gender, age and origin of place does not significantly affect the students’ level of knowledge (p > 0.05). The correlate between the pharmacy with non-pharmacy students’ knowledge was at (p < 0.05), as well as the correlate between students’ knowledge with the frequency of use of antibiotics without prescription, thus proving that there was a significant correlation between pharmacy with non-pharmacy students’ knowledge and between students’ level of knowledge with the frequency of use of antibiotics without prescription.

Abstract

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a tendency for people to prefer self-medication treatment than to undergo treatment in health facilities. Objective: To determine the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the attitude of the Tanah Baru Village community in carrying out self-medication and the influence of sociodemographic factors on attitudes towards self-medication during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This research was conducted using a descriptive cross sectional research method. Data were collected through filling out a validated questionnaire. A total of 376 respondents who are residents of Tanah Baru village were selected by random sampling method. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods in the Statistical Product and Servicer Solution (SPSS) version 22 program. Results: Based on the results of the Chi-square test, the COVID-19 pandemic affected people's attitudes in performing self-medication significantly (p<0.05). The latest education has a significant influence on people's attitudes in carrying out self-medication before and during the COVID-19 pandemic (p<0.05). Conclusion: Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the COVID-19 pandemic affected the attitude of the people of Tanah Baru Medan Village in carrying out self-medication. The latest education affects people's attitudes in carrying out self-medication before and during the COVID-19 pandemic

Abstract

Burns are damage to skin tissue caused by contact with sources that conduct heat. Burns can cause impaired appearance, function, patient dependence, job loss and future survival. Handling and proper treatment will avoid things that are not desirable such as infection in burns. Use the medical treatment continuous sometimes has adverse side effects, so that treatment using traditional plants is an alternative treatment. This literature study aims to determine the potential of traditional plants that can be used for healing burns obtained from published research journals. Aloe vera (L.) Burm. F., Allium ascalonicum L., Artocarpus altilis, Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb and Piper betle Linn. are some plants that have the potential to help heal burns. The content of secondary metabolite compounds contained in it can help in healing burns such as flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins and saponins

Abstract

Self-medication has the potential to become a source of medication errors if the community's knowledge of drugs and their use is very limited. This study aims to determine the level of knowledge and rationality of self-medication community in Tanah Baru subdistrict, Beji district, Depok city. This research was conducted with a cross sectional d escriptive research method. Data were collected through filling out a validated online questionnaire. All of 375 respondents who was involved in this study were selected by the snowball sampling method. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods in the Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS) program version 18. The results showed that the level of knowledge in community 24% was good classified, 40.8% were medium classified and 35.2% were bad classified with an average score of 14.01. The use of self medicated drugs was 31.5% irrational and 68.5% rational. Based on the result of Chi-square and Fisher, the level of knowledge was influenced by recent education and job with p 0.00 and p 0.04 (p value <0.05). Meanwhile rationality of self medication was influenced by recent education with p 0.03 (p value <0.05). In addition, the level of knowledge about self-medication does not have a significant effect to rationality of self- medication. Recent education and job of community affect the level of self-medication knowledge, and the rationality of self-medication was affected by recent education. In addition, the level of self medication knowledge has no significant effect to the rationality of community self medication

Abstract

Piladang leaf (Plectranthus scutellaroides (L) R.Br) is a plant that has antibacterial activity, one of which is Staphylococcus aureus, so it can be used as an active ingredient in spray hand sanitizer or hand antiseptic spray. This study aims to formulate piladang leaf extract in the form of spray hand sanitizer and to test its antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus using agar diffusion method. In this research, 3 spray hand sanitizer formulas were made with variations in the concentration of piladang leaf extract 3.5%; 7% and 10.5%. Then performed a physical stability test with test parameters including organoleptic, viscosity, homogeneity, pH, stability, irritation test and dry time test. The results showed that based on physical stability tests it was found that organoleptically, viscosity, homogeneity, pH and stability for the three formulas was stable during storage, then based on the antibacterial spray hand sanitizer test against Staphylococcus aureus, it was found that the concentration of piladang leaf extract affected the inhibition of growth of Staphylococcus aureus by showing inhibition of 15.18 mm for a concentration of 3.5%; 17.2 mm for a concentration of 7% and 22.08 mm for a concentration of 10.5%.

Abstract

In the current conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic, aromatherapy candles have become a necessity for the community as an alternative treatment by utilizing natural ingredients whose popularity is increasing. One of natural ingredients used for aromatherapy is basil and lemongrass. This study aimed to determine whether the essential oil combination of basil leaves (Ocimum sanctum L) and lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) can be formulated into aromatherapy candles. The experiment was conducted in the laboratory. The essential oils of basil and lemongrass were gainded from E-Commerce and processed through Thin Layer Chromatography. Silica gel stationary phase, chloroform-benzene mobile phase for basil leaves and toluene-ethyl acetate mobile phase for lemongrass samples. Then the materials (for making aromatherapy candle) were made in three different concentrations of formula I (3%: 20%), formula II (2%: 10%), and formula III (1%: 5%). Test of physical properties of the materials included organoleptic test, test melting point, burn times test and preference test from 20 respondents. The results of the test of the materials for aromatherapy candle showed that there was an affect on the physical properties of aromatherapy candles. Based on the findings of physical properties test, formula III resulted the best because of high melting test point and the longest burning time. Formula I was widely preferred for greater concentration of essential oils

Abstract

Self-medication is a process carried out by a person starting form the introduction of complaint or symptoms and oon the selection and use of drugs. The diseases are: fever, pain, colds and flu, cough, gastritis, diarrhea. The problem that often occurs is the lack of public knowledge rational certification. This study was conducted to evaluate the level of publik knowledge of self—medication and rationality of drug usage by providing educaton so that there is an increase in public understanding and knowlegde about good self-medication. Cross-sectional descriptive research method. Data were taken secondary through filling out the questionnaire, there were 9 people in Pengasinan Sawangan District selected by accidental sampling method. Data were processed using the statistical product and service solution (SPSS) application version 22 with a chi-square test. The results of the study stated that the level of public know ledge of 22.80% is good, 44.30% is moderate and 32.90% is poor. 70.90% of the majority of people use drigs rationlally and 29.10% are not rational. There is a relationship between age and last education with the level of knowledge andd rrationality in using self-medication drugs. However, it has nothing to do with sex and occcupation. Based on the results ot the study are that the level of public know ledge is moderate, 44.30% and the rationality of drug use is rational 70.90%
