Abstract

The potential of underwater natural materials has attracted the attention of researchers and health professionals as an effective source of natural remedies for the treatment of diabetes. Several examples of polyphenol compounds found in underwater natural materials have the ability to act as antioxidants, so they are widely used to improve the condition of diabetic patients. Polyphenols have the ability to suppress postprandial hyperglycemia by inhibiting the hydrolysis activity of enzyme carbohydrates, inhibiting glucose transport in the blood, affecting the function of cells β pancreas, and glucose absorption tissue. The method used in this writing is literature review using international and national journals that are in accordance with the purpose of writing. Thus, the potential of underwater natural ingredients as a natural remedy for diabetes treatment is very promising and needs to be further examined and developed to improve the quality of life of diabetics.

Abstract

Fever has been noted as a precursor or characteristic of the disease. Conditions that aggravate fever often result in therapeutic failure or a poor prognosis. This study aims to analyze the comparison of single therapy administration of Paracetamol, Ibuprofen and a combination of both in treating fever and/or pain in patients aged 6 months to 18 years. The results of the study showed that using Ibuprofen alone was better at reducing fever in the first 4 hours than Paracetamol alone, however, the combination therapy of the two was not much different from using Ibuprofen alone. To treat pain accompanied by fever, using Ibuprofen alone has been proven to provide a longer pain-free period compared to using Paracetamol alone, and the combination of the two is not much different from Ibuprofen

Abstract

Glucose transporters have an important role in the body to transport blood sugar to other organs. In patients with diabetes mellitus, the signaling of GLUT, especially class 1, is reduced because it is affected by impaired insulin secretion. Bitter gourd is thought to have an anti-diabetic effect by lowering blood pressure, with the main component in it being charantin. Purpose: This study aims to determine the activity of charantin as a blood sugar lowering agent by inducing GLUT3 through a compound anchoring test. Methods: The type of research in this study was a computer-based experimental study using an in silico test or molecular docking by comparing the charantin test ligand and the native ligand as a comparison in the form of Octyl Glucose Neopentyl Glycol. Conclusion: The results of the compound anchoring test show that the binding energy (ΔG) affinity of charantin for GLUT3 is -7.5 Kcal/mol, while for Octyl Glucose Neopentyl Glycol it is -6.15 Kcal/mol, and charantin has activity like Octyl Glucose Neopentyl Glycol with amino acid residues that bind to the active site of the GLUT3 protein, namely AGR228. This indicates that the compounds present in bitter gourd can be predicted to be used as therapy for diabetes mellitus patients.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is achronic metabolic disease that requires long-term treatment. Elderly people with multimorbidity often use multiple medications, known as polypharmacy, which can increase the risk of drug interactions. This study aims to analyze polypharmacy prescriptions and determine the relationship between drug interactions and blood glucose levels in geriatric patients with type2 diabetes. This study is non-experimental with a descriptive-analytical design through a retrospective cross-sectional approach. Sampling used random sampling in the form of medical records of171 geriatric patients with type 2 diabetes. Using univariate and bivariate analysis in the form of chi-square statistical tests with a significance level of<0.05. The results showed that the incidence of type 2 diabetes in geriatric women was higher than in men at119 (69.59%), with the largest distribution of geriatric patients in the 60-69 year age range (77.77%). Based on polypharmacy prescriptions, the most common type of polypharmacy encountered was minor polypharmacy (5-9 drugs)(95.3%), and 159 patients (92.98%) had the potential for interactions. Based on the mechanism pattern, pharmacodynamic interactions occurred in413 cases (74.95%), with the most common level of interaction severity being moderate, occurring in340 cases (61.7%). Chi-square test results showed a relationship between potential drug interactions and blood glucose levels, with p-value of 0.000<0.005.

Abstract

This study analyzed the incidence of drug-related problems, including adverse events and medical errors, and possible associated risk factors, in patients with endometriosis who used combined oral contraceptives (COCs) and progestins. Reports were collected between January 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025, regarding endometriosis patients in the Medical Record System at the Duren Seribu Community Health Center, Depok City. A disproportionate analysis was performed using the Gamma–Poisson Shrinker model to detect overreported drug–event pairs. Logistic regression analysis was used to explore potential risk factors. There were 23 reports regarding long-term hormonal treatment and 45 reports regarding other medications used for endometriosis. Long-term hormonal treatment included: 15 reports (22.0%) of combined oral contraceptives (COCs), 10 reports (14.7%) of oral progestins, 8 reports (11.76%) of injectable (depot) progestins, 23 reports (33.82%) of progestin-releasing IUDs, and 12 reports (17.64%) of progestin-only implants. Both combined oral contraceptives (COCs) and progestin-only products are relatively safe for patients with endometriosis. Combination therapy (polytherapy) has been negatively associated with several medical errors in COC users, while patients aged ≥30 years have had more pulmonary embolism cases but fewer reported product-related problems.
