Abstract

The method of medication develops following the world of thought and culture of humans. The beliefs in the nonmaterial world have profoundly affected in the early days of traditional medication methods. The period of modern medicine eliminates this belief and offers a more logical understanding of health. The traditional healing methods are not completely lost in these modern times. Its existence can still be found amid rural communities whose minds are reconstructed and isolated by traditional beliefs. The thoughts about health and diseases which come from witchcraft then become a benchmark for them to choose witchery medicine too, which in this case known as dukun. This is then becoming a big problem for the citizens in Silanga Village, where as a result of the belief in black magic possessed by humans to hurt other humans, which in the Kaili Rai Ethnic Language they call the topeule. Those then became the origin of the people to choose dukun (sando) for their medication process. The results of this study indicate that supernatural medical practices are still alive in the midst of the Silanga Village community and are trusted by the community who use them.

Abstract

Children's language has unique patterns or rules. This study aims to analyze the single sentence patterns of kindergarten students in Namlea District with the Tatabahasa Transformasi Generative (TTG) by Noam Chomsky. The results showed that there were two structural patterns of phrases in the language of kindergarten students, namely FN + FV and FN + FA. Furthermore, the form of single sentence kindergarten students can be seen from two types of transformation, namely negative and passive transformation. These two types of transformation have a physical and mental structure. The two structures produce different transformation patterns. For negative transformation, the birth structure has a pattern of K ----> Neg + FN [Su] + FV + FN [Ob]. This pattern will change when transformed negatively into K ----> Neg + FN [Su] + FV + FN [Ob].Furthermore, the structures born in the passive transformation have a pattern of K ----> FN [Su] + FV + FN [Ob]. This pattern will change when transformed passively into K ----> FN + FN [Su] + FV. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the language of kindergarten children in Namlea District has a pattern in accordance with the development of the language.

Abstract

The Karen tribe, originating from a branch within the Burmese Kayan ethnic group, now comprises the most considerable portion of Thailand's ethnic highland population. The tribe has been migrating throughout Thai-Myanmar mountainous border, as the impact of armed conflict between Karen nationalist and Burmese government since the 1950s and as democracy faltered in Myanmar. In the last two decades, the number of Karen people who migrated to Chiang Rai has been increasing due to the new industry of tribal tourism in the province. However, for Thai people, the hill tribe people are still considered alien or the other, but their presence must be integrated into Thai society. Therefore, the Thai government issued a special identity card for the hill tribes identifying them as people belonging to ethnic minorities, yet, non-Thai citizens. There are currently three categories to recognize hill tribe people in Thailand based on the Cabinet resolutions and laws passed to reflect the level of the state's acceptance of the citizenship status. However, this policy brings contradictive sense, especially in terms of citizenship rights and fulfilling SDGs for the hill tribes. This research focuses on Karen "longneck" women that live in tambon Nanglae, Amphoe Mueang Chiang Rai, named Kayan Lahwi, or the Padaung, the sub-group of the Red Karen. This research's primary purpose is to specifically perceive the impact of Thai citizenship laws on the current social-economic sustainability of the Padaung Karen women living in tambon Nanglae, Amphoe Mueang, Chiang Rai. This research applied qualitative methods by using literature data, interviews, and participant observation to gather information. Close inspection will reveal challenging issues for Padaung Karen women in Chiang Rai to achieve sustainability in income (SDG 1), food security (SDG 2), health (SDG 3), and education (SDG 4) for their community.

Abstract

Abstract

Sex segregation remains happening in the education realm. In the 21st century, Indonesian women's participation in the public sphere still becomes an issue, especially leadership. Women are perceived as the second class of society, even obtaining the negative stereotype of incapable leaders, which the myth of leadership belongs to men's world. As an oxymoron, women are "freely binding," meaning they can be involved in the public sphere. However, they are encountering "glass-ceiling" to be in the top position, especially in rural West Java, where women have been perceived for their physical appearance-minded rather than the capability of leadership. The proposition of women principals in compulsory education in Indonesia is underrepresented compared to men principals with 38.68 percent and 61.32 percent. Women are capable of a good leader who has leveraged their subordinates through positive relationships, empowering others, and improving schools. Therefore, women empowerment is essential to achieving sustainable education under SDG Priority 4 Quality of Education and SDG Priority 5 Gender Equality. This study aims to analyze the presence of women school principals' "status quo" and "glass-ceiling" in Indonesia by utilizing the PAR gender model of Blaikie et al. (2003), consisting of three factors; root causes, dynamic pressures, and unsafe condition. Hence, this study will be able to offer policy recommendations on women's leadership empowerment. This research used the exploratory approach by investigating sixteen school principals of elementary education and literature reviews, such as research reports and academic articles related to women leaders in education. This study found that Indonesian women in the educational realm have dealt with the glass ceiling deriving from root causes on power and structure. Meanwhile, dynamic pressures are knowledge dissemination and the unsafe condition on economic imbalances and discrimination on welfare and social protection, which becomes a sustainable threat and negatively affects the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
