Abstract

The haematological and immunological systems have traditionally been viewed as separate entities, but they operate through a fundamental two-way synergy that is essential for the body's defence. This article aims to map the complex mechanisms linking these two systems through a systematic literature review. This review identifies three main pillars of synergy. First, haematopoiesis serves as the foundation that produces all immune cells, a process itself dynamically regulated by immune signals. Second, inflammation is a coordinated response in which cytokines direct the recruitment of haematological cells (neutrophils, monocytes) to the site of injury. Third, immunothrombosis represents an advanced synergy in which platelet and neutrophil interactions activate coagulation to trap pathogens. This review concludes that dysregulation in one system, such as chronic inflammation, can directly drive pathology in the other systems, including thrombosis and haematological malignancies, highlighting the importance of integrated therapeutic approaches.

Abstract

Immune system disorders can affect hematological functions, potentially leading to blood abnormalities such as anemia, leukopenia, or thrombocytopenia. This study aims to analyze the impact of immune dysfunction on hematological parameters and to improve community knowledge through a community-based educational approach. The research employed a quantitative descriptive design with pre-test and post-test evaluation, involving 45 community participants in Surakarta. The program was conducted over three months through health education sessions, community mentoring, and assessments of knowledge and health behavior. The results showed a significant improvement between pre-test and post-test scores (p < 0.05), with an average knowledge increase of 28.3%. The highest improvement was found in understanding immune disorder prevention (29.5%), while the most notable behavioral changes included regular blood checkups (48%) and increased social support for immunocompromised patients (33%). These findings indicate that community-based education effectively enhances health literacy and awareness of the relationship between the immune and hematological systems. In conclusion, this community engagement program provided not only theoretical insight into immune-hematologic interactions but also tangible improvements in health behavior. It is recommended that similar programs be continued and expanded to improve quality of life and prevent immunological disorders at the community level.

Abstract

The endocrine system is a collection of hormone producing glands that regulate metabolism, growth, reproduction, and body balance. In glucose metabolism, one of the most common disorders is diabetes mellitus, a condition of chronic hyperglycemia caused by a lack of insulin or the body's inability to respond to insulin properly. Type 1 diabetes is caused by autoimmune damage to the beta cells of the pancreas, while type 2 diabetes arises from a combination of insulin resistance and impaired insulin secretion. This problem not only disrupts blood glucose levels but also affects other organs such as the kidneys, eyes, and nerves. This study aims to explain the role of the endocrine system in the onset of diabetes mellitus, the hormonal mechanisms involved, and diagnostic approaches according to the latest guidelines. A proper understanding of the relationship between the two is important for early detection, therapeutic management, and long-term prevention.

Abstract

Vitamin D is a vital nutrient primarily produced through skin exposure to UVB rays. Vitamin D plays a crucial role in maintaining healthy bones and the musculoskeletal system. The skin, as the organ that produces vitamin D, works closely with the musculoskeletal system to maintain bone strength and function. This article explains the synthesis, metabolism, and action of vitamin D, as well as its impact on bone strength and the relationship between the two systems in supporting human body function. Recent studies fully explain the importance of a balance between adequate sunlight exposure and vitamin D metabolism for maintaining bone and muscle health.

Abstract

This review article discusses the principles and processes of carbohydrate, lipid, protein, and nucleic acid metabolism in organisms. The literature review presented in this article is sourced from scientific journals and accredited books that are relevant. The metabolic pathways of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids consist of three types of pathways, namely catabolic, anabolic, and amphibolic. These pathways generally occur in the mitochondria through the Krebs cycle. The catabolism of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats can produce derivatives such as amino acids, glucose, glycerol, and fatty acids, which can be converted into energy or energy reserves for cell growth and development processes. Conversely, anabolic processes can utilize macromolecule derivatives (amino acids, glucose, fructose, fatty acids) to form macromolecules (proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids). Carbohydrate metabolism specifically involves glycolysis, glycogenesis, and gluconeogenesis, while lipid metabolism occurs through the acetyl-CoA process.

Abstract

The human digestive system is the process of converting food through the breakdown of food into simple particles aided by enzymes and the absorption of nutrients to meet the body's needs. The purpose of this journal is to understand respiration in the human digestive system. A literature review method was used. Data was collected from scientific articles on respiration and digestion published in books and journals. From this explanation, it can be concluded that the digestive system functions to provide the body with air, food, and electrolytes from digested nutrients so they can be absorbed. The digestive tract includes the mouth, throat (pharynx), esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, and anus. The digestive system also includes organs outside the digestive tract, namely the pancreas, liver, and bladder.

Abstract

The digital revolution has transformed the landscape of higher education, particularly thru the implementation of online learning platforms. This study aims to analyze the impact of using online learning platforms on student learning motivation in higher education. Using a qualitative literature review method, this study integrates the results of various previous studies to understand the dynamics of the relationship between online learning platforms and student learning motivation. The research results indicate that online learning platforms have a dual impact on learning motivation. On the one hand, platforms with motivational features such as credit systems, gamification, and quick feedback can increase student engagement and intrinsic motivation. On the other hand, various challenges such as monotonous materials, limited direct interaction, internet connectivity issues, and a lack of social support can decrease student learning motivation. This study concludes that the effectiveness of online learning in increasing motivation depends on four key elements: (1) students' readiness in digital literacy and self-regulation skills, (2) adequate access to technology and infrastructure, (3) social support from family, peers, and lecturers, and (4) student-centered pedagogical design with engaging features. Online learning can be an effective alternative and a catalyst for improving motivation and learning outcomes if implemented with an approach that considers the balance between technological, social, and psychological aspects
