Abstract

This study examines the concept of God’s holiness in Leviticus 10:1–7 through an exegetical approach to the event of the “strange fire” offered by Nadab and Abihu. The background of this research lies in the need to rediscover the true meaning of God’s holiness, which is often misunderstood in contemporary worship practices. The purpose of this study is to explore the theological meaning of the passage and its implications for faith and worship. The research uses a qualitative method based on literature study, focusing on historical, literary, and thematic analysis of the biblical text. The findings reveal that God’s holiness in this passage is absolute and cannot be violated without serious consequences. The action of Nadab and Abihu in offering unauthorized fire shows that worship is not only about sincere intention but also about obedience to God’s commands. The immediate divine judgment highlights that God’s holiness demands total reverence. Furthermore, this event serves as a warning for the community to maintain holiness in worship. In conclusion, God’s holiness in Leviticus 10:1–7 is radical and requires complete obedience from humanity. The implication of this study is the importance of cultivating reverence, discipline, and obedience in worship, ensuring that faith practices are aligned with God’s will rather than human preference.

Abstract

In the face of Indonesia’s escalating family crises amid rapid digital disruption and post-pandemic social recovery, this study proposes a novel “Dual-Ethos Synergy Model” that integrates the Fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22–23) with the second principle of Pancasila, namely “Just and Civilized Humanity.” The study is grounded in qualitative fieldwork conducted at Gereja Bethel Indonesia Pemulihan Keluarga Allah (GBI PKA). The findings demonstrate that the integration of Christian spiritual values and civic ethics fosters restorative character formation within families and church communities. This synergy produces practical outcomes, including stronger empathy in community service, improved interpersonal relationships, and more constructive conflict resolution practices. Using data gathered through nine in-depth interviews, participant observations, and document analysis, the study addresses existing gaps in urban church discipleship by combining spiritual transformation with social responsibility and civic engagement. The proposed model also offers implications for scalable digital-hybrid ministry programs focused on family restoration and contributes to the development of contextual theological praxis within pluralistic and multicultural societies. Limitations of the study and recommendations for future research are also discussed.

Abstract

This study examines the theological tension between devotion to God and the influence of mammon within the context of church ministry, as reflected in Matius 6:24. The research aims to analyze how materialism shapes attitudes, motivations, and practices in ecclesiastical service, particularly in relation to financial and administrative responsibilities. The method employed is a literature analysis combined with a phenomenological approach, allowing for an integration of biblical teachings and lived ministry experiences. The findings reveal that mammon is not merely a material entity but a competing spiritual force that demands human loyalty, often subtly influencing the orientation of ministry. Materialism, therefore, emerges as a critical challenge to ministerial integrity, especially in contexts involving financial management. The novelty of this study lies in its integration of theological reflection with empirical ministry experience, emphasizing that integrity in church service is not only tested in spiritual expressions but also in the handling of material resources. This study contributes to practical theology by offering a contextual understanding of how faithfulness to God must be maintained amidst the persistent tension between spiritual calling and material demands.

Abstract

This research seeks to analyze, from a theological perspective, the importance of the quality of Christian Religious Education teachers in shaping students’ character based on James 3:1. The background of this study stems from the urgent need for teachers who possess integrity, strong spiritual competence, and the ability to serve as moral and spiritual role models for students. In many educational contexts, the poor quality of teachers remains a critical issue that contributes to the inadequate development of students’ Christian character, particularly in terms of faith formation, moral behavior, and spiritual growth. This study employs a qualitative research approach using literature review methods, biblical text analysis, and theological interpretation to examine the relationship between teacher quality and character formation. The findings indicate that the quality of Christian Religious Education teachers plays a significant role in shaping students’ faith, morality, and spirituality, as teachers function not only as knowledge transmitters but also as spiritual guides. Therefore, the study concludes that improving teacher quality through continuous competence development, strengthening personal integrity, and enhancing exemplary conduct is essential. Such efforts are necessary to ensure that Christian Religious Education becomes more relevant, transformative, and sustainable in guiding students’ character formation.

Abstract

The phenomenon of feeling unworthy to serve in the church is one of the common struggles experienced by church members and ministry workers. These feelings often arise from various factors, such as past experiences, guilt over sin, social pressure, high spiritual standards, and inadequate theological understanding of God’s grace. This study aims to provide a theological review of the phenomenon of feeling unworthy in church ministry and to offer a biblical understanding of believers’ worthiness to serve. The research employs a qualitative method with a literature study approach through the analysis of the Bible, theological literature, and the perspectives of Christian theologians regarding the calling to ministry. The findings reveal that, from a Christian theological perspective, worthiness for ministry is not based on human perfection but on God’s grace and calling. Biblical figures such as Moses, Isaiah, Peter, and Paul demonstrate that God uses individuals who feel weak and unworthy to reveal His power. Therefore, feelings of unworthiness should not become barriers to serving, but rather opportunities to depend fully on God. This study is expected to provide theological and pastoral contributions for churches in assisting congregants who struggle with similar feelings so that they may understand their identity and calling in Christ.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the participation of the faithful in the Sacrament of Penance and to identify the pastoral challenges influencing its practice in the Vicariate of West Sulawesi, Archdiocese of Makassar. Theologically, the Sacrament of Penance serves as a means of reconciliation that restores the relationship between humanity, God, and the Church. However, in contemporary contexts, its practice encounters various social, psychological, and pastoral dynamics. This research employed a descriptive quantitative approach involving 267 respondents from four parishes through questionnaire distribution. The data were analyzed using percentage-based statistics to map participation frequency, spiritual motivation, level of understanding, post-sacramental experiences, and perceived obstacles. The findings indicate that although most respondents demonstrate strong theological understanding, sincere spiritual motivation, and positive spiritual experiences after receiving absolution, participation remains largely seasonal and periodic. The principal challenges include psychological factors such as shame and anxiety, structural limitations related to schedule and accessibility, and formative deficiencies such as insufficient ongoing catechesis. The study concludes that the primary issue is not a crisis of faith in the sacrament itself, but a gap between theological awareness and concrete practice, thus calling for more dialogical, communicative, and contextual pastoral renewal.
