This research examines the career preferences of seventh-semester students in the French Language Education Undergraduate Program at Universitas Negeri Semarang and the factors influencing them. Using a descriptive quantitative method, a questionnaire was employed to gather data on the students’ career choices. The findings reveal that 39.3% of respondents prefer careers related to French, particularly in tourism, secretarial work, hospitality, and journalism. Approximately 32.8% aspire to become French teachers in formal or non-formal education settings. Additionally, 21.3% consider entrepreneurial activities in language-related fields or ventures combining business and information technology, while 4.9% choose careers in translation and interpretation. Lastly, 1.6% of students pursue other professional paths. Based on Krumboltz’s theory, the primary factors influencing career preferences include specific skills and genetic endowment, environmental conditions, learning experiences, and task accomplishment skills. In French language learning, SMA Negeri 3 Pati students experience difficulties in writing skills, especially in Passé composé topics. The purpose of this research is to describe the implementation of Example Non-Example learning model and explain the effectiveness of Example Non-Example learning model. The sample selection in this study used a random sampling technique and obtained XI MIPA 3 class as the control group using the lecture method and XI MIPA 6 class as the experimental group using the Example Non-Example learning model. This research is included in quantitative research using an experimental design. Based on the t-test data analysis results, the t-count was 1.851 and Df = 58 at a significance level of 5%, so it is known that the t-table value is 1.67, indicating that the t-count is greater than the t-table. This shows that using the Example Non-Example learning model significantly influences learning to write French essays for class XI MIPA students at SMA Negeri 3 Pati.

Abstract

In French language learning, it is necessary to understand the elements and rules of grammar managed by the grammatical system. This research proposes to create introductory grammar exercises in game form using the Wordwall application and then develop the media to become reference material for grammar learning. This research used the R&D approach, which divides the process into five steps: researchers develop products through potential and problem analysis, data collection, product design, product validation, and product revision. The object of this research is students of the first semester of 2023, Department of French Language, Universitas Negeri Semarang. This study produced the results of three exercises: the repetition, the blank, and the structural exercises. Before creating these three exercises, the researcher did some needs analysis on the 39 first-semester students by distributing and collecting the questionnaire, with the result of 97.3% that the students need the repetition exercise and 92.3% that they need the blank exercises and the structural exercise, and then the product is validated by experts.

The product of this research is an electronic copy containing 79 French hotel and restaurant vocabulary words. This research began with information gathering and community needs analysis, designing and creating educational materials, and validating with materials and media experts. The data collection instrument used in this research was percentage analysis. The validation results by materials experts were 92.5%, while media experts were 90.62%. The material validation results are in the “excellent” category, and the media validation results are in the “excellent” category. Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the game ‘Word Jumble Race’ in improving students’ written production in the French Section of UNIMED. The problem is that fourth-semester A students have difficulty writing sentences in the French past tense. This is justified by the results of the pre-test, which show that the average score is 51. According to teacher interviews, this problem is due to a lack of learning resources. The research method used was a single-group pre-test-post-test experimental model. The sampling technique was purposive sampling. The implementation procedure included a pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The pre-test was conducted to determine the students’ initial skills by asking them to write sentences in the French passé composé tense. The treatment was done by teaching the game Word Jumble Race, using simple questions and answers type DELF A1. After a series of research studies, a significant improvement in the students’ learning outcomes was achieved. The average score of 51 in the pre-test rose to 87 in the post-test. The N-gain test was carried out to determine the game’s effectiveness. The result is that the average learning score of 73% falls into the ‘very effective’ category. The game is therefore very effective in improving the ability to write sentences in the French past tense for fourth-semester students at UNIMED.

Abstract

This study is motivated by one of the objectives of French language subjects in high school within the independent curriculum, specifically regarding cross-cultural understanding. However, this goal has not been fully met at SMK N 3 Magelang because cross-cultural learning is only inserted during the lesson. The purpose of this study was to determine the learning outcomes and knowledge of students after using the Indonesian French cross-cultural quartet media in reading skills. This research employs an experimental case study design with 30 respondents from SMK N 3 Magelang. The methods used to collect data were tests and documentation. The test consisted of 20 multiple-choice questions. The results of this study indicate that the application of cross-cultural quartet media in class XI Hospitality students has a good effect. This can be seen from the overall percentage of students passing the Indonesian French cross-cultural knowledge test, which is as high as 90%, with an average score of 82.83 obtained by students. It can be concluded that the application of cross-cultural quartet media yields good learning outcomes and enhances the cross-cultural knowledge of Indonesian French in reading skills among XI Hospitality students of SMK N 3 Magelang after the media is accepted.

Abstract

In French, the position of words in a sentence determines its meaning. In some cases, the position of words can be interchanged. For example, in the construction of an interrogative sentence that presents the first verb followed by the subject, this construction places the subject to the right of the verb. This construction is called inversion. This study aims to discover and describe subject inversion in Charles Perrault's fairy tales. This research uses a qualitative approach. The result of this research is 37 instances of subject inversion from three of Charles Perrault's fairy tales, as presented in the book Contes de ma mère l'Oye. Of the 37 data points obtained, 21 are simple inversion data points and 16 are final inversion data points. The data obtained include (1) subject inversion in subordinate clauses of complex sentences, with up to 7 data points (simple inversion totaling 5 data points and final inversion totaling 2 data points), (2) subject inversion in simple sentences totaling 30 instances (simple inversion totaling 16 instances and final inversion totaling 14 instances), (3) subject inversion in declarative sentences totaling 24 instances (simple inversion totaling 11 instances and final inversion totaling 13 instances), (4) subject inversion in interrogative sentences totals 7 data points (simple inversion totals 6 data points and final inversion totals 1 data point), (5) subject inversion in exclamatory sentences totals 2 data points, namely simple inversion.
