Abstract

This study employs the tongue twister game technique to teach French pronunciation to students in Class XII at SMA N 2 Kudus. This study aims to describe (1) the application of the tongue twister game technique to practice French pronunciation, and (2) to find out whether the tongue twister game technique is efficacious in improving French pronunciation in class XII F11 SMA N 2 Kudus students. This research is a pre-experimental quantitative study, employing a One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The research instruments used tests and documentation. The sample used was class XII F-11, selected using a random sampling technique. The application of a tongue twister is done by dividing into several groups, then given a tongue twister with the help of cards. The average pretest score was 45.64, and the posttest score was 73.58. This indicates a difference in pronunciation between the pretest and posttest. The results of the effect size test with Cohen’s d formula of 2.019 show that the tongue twister has a substantial effect in improving the French pronunciation of students in class XII F-11 SMAN 2 Kudus.

This research is a descriptive-qualitative pre-experiment, a one-shot case study design. The subjects of this study were students in the 5th semester of the Advanced Written French course, a total of 25 students. Data collection techniques included observation, testing and documentation. The results showed that applying the AIR method with Marsupilami comics as a means of teaching advanced students French reading skills was not effective. The research results showed that 18 students, or 72% of the students, achieved the full score or reached the score of 65. This means that the percentage of learning results is less than 85%, and that we can say that the application of the method in learning French is not effective.

Abstract

The learning materials include video transcripts, titles, themes, practical exercises, evaluation indicators, and language levels from the TV5Monde website, adapted to the CPMK in the RPS for the second semester. The use of TV5Monde in the classroom could enhance listening skills, but it has not yet been implemented because the audio and video materials from textbooks are preferred due to their accessibility. This study employs a qualitative approach. It evaluates the relevance of TV5Monde to the learning objectives for oral comprehension skills in the second semester. The results of the relevance analysis between the CPMK learning objectives in the RPS and the TV5Monde website show that out of the 12 videos analysed, 10 were relevant and 2 were not. This positions TV5Monde as an alternative standard for CPMK materials in the RPS for Elementary Oral Comprehension for second-semester students.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of the Bourse Français Langue Étrangère (Bourse FLE) program in improving the linguistic competence of Indonesian students. The scholarship (bourse), offered by the Institut Français d’Indonésie (IFI), supports the French acquisition through immersive learning at Université Paul-Valéry Montpellier 3. Seven Indonesian students participated in this intensive program. A quantitative experimental method was applied using pre- and post-tests. The curriculum included phonetics, grammar, oral and written comprehension and production, conversation workshops, and weekly cultural excursions. The t-test showed a significance value of 0.030 < 0.05, indicating a notable improvement. About 86% of students passed the final exam. Three students (43%) progressed from B1 to B2, although average scores declined due to exam difficulty. Two students (B1-B1) and one (B2-B2) demonstrated significant improvement (43), especially in oral comprehension, oral production, and written comprehension. One B1-level student showed no improvement. These findings confirm that the FLE program is effective in improving the linguistic competence of Indonesian students through immersive acquisition de français.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effectiveness of using the Coffee Break French podcast to improve the listening comprehension skills of students at MAS YASPI Labuhan Deli Medan. The study is based on the observation that students struggle to understand spoken French, primarily due to a lack of authentic teaching materials. The research uses a quantitative method with a pre-test/post-test experimental design on a single group. The sample comprises 32 students. The data collection instruments are a pre-test and a post-test. The results show a significant increase in the average scores, from 40.63 in the pre-test to 82.66 in the post-test. The paired t-test yields a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a statistically significant difference between the results before and after the treatment. In addition, the average normalized gain (N-Gain) is 70%, which is classified as ‘effective’ according to Arikunto's criteria. Thus, we can conclude that using the Coffee Break French podcast is efficacious in improving students' listening comprehension of the Se Présenter material.

The research adopted a qualitative descriptive approach. The results indicate a total of 71 occurrences of language functions within the corpus. The referential function proves to be the most dominant, representing 31% of the occurrences, which highlights the magazine’s priority to inform its readership. The conative (20%), emotive (18%), and poetic (17%) functions also play a significant role in the engagement and aesthetics of the message. The phatic (10%) and metalinguistic (4%) functions complete the picture. In conclusion, all Jakobson’s functions are present, with a clear predominance of the referential function, affirming Vogue’s informative purpose while utilizing varied and sophisticated communicative strategies.
