Abstract

Happiness is an important indicator of subjective well-being and has become a central topic in positive psychology. This study aims to analyze the relationship between education and health factors and the Happiness Index in Indonesia using secondary data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) in 2021. The study employed a quantitative explanatory approach with a sample of 34 provinces selected through total sampling. The dependent variable was the Happiness Index, while the independent variables included Expected Years of Schooling, Mean Years of Schooling, and Life Expectancy. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression with IBM SPSS Statistics 26. The results indicated that Expected Years of Schooling, Mean Years of Schooling, and Life Expectancy did not have a statistically significant relationship with the Happiness Index, either simultaneously or partially. The coefficient of determination showed that the model explained only a small proportion of the variation in the Happiness Index, indicating that other factors beyond education and health may play a more substantial role in determining happiness. These findings suggest that improving public happiness requires a broader approach that considers social, economic, and psychological dimensions in addition to education and health.

Abstract

The implementation of electronic voting (e-voting) in Indonesian Village Head Elections (Pilkades) presents a fundamental paradox between the promise of technological efficiency and the challenge to democratic legitimacy. This study critically analyzes the extent to which e-voting in the context of Pilkades can achieve procedural efficiency while maintaining or, conversely, undermining the legitimacy of the grassroots democratic system. Utilizing a qualitative approach with document analysis techniques toward regulations, official reports, and previous studies, this research finds that e-voting technically enhances vote counting efficiency by 60–70%, reduces operational costs, and minimizes human error. However, these technical advantages are inversely proportional to the degradation of legitimacy at the substantive level: low digital literacy in rural areas, regional infrastructure disparities, the potential exclusion of vulnerable voters, and the absence of adequate transparency mechanisms create a deficit in public trust toward election outcomes. This study argues that the efficiency-legitimacy dilemma in e-voting Pilkades is not merely a technical issue, but rather a reflection of structural tensions between governance modernization and the depth of participatory democracy. The novelty of this research lies in the construction of the Efficiency-Legitimacy (EL) Framework analytical tool, which integrates e-government theory with democratic legitimacy theory to evaluate the implementation of voting technology at the village level. Recommended policy implications include the implementation of a hybrid voting system and open algorithm audits as a middle ground to reconcile efficiency and legitimacy.

Abstract

Education development plays a strategic role in improving human resources and promoting social transformation. This study aims to analyze the relationship between educational development and changes in the social stratification of rural–urban communities in East Java from the perspectives of Modernization and Dependency theories. The study employed a qualitative approach using a library research method. Data were collected from secondary sources, including scientific journals, books, research reports, and other relevant academic publications, and were analyzed through descriptive qualitative analysis by synthesizing theoretical and empirical findings. The results indicate that educational development contributes to improving social mobility, expanding employment opportunities, and transforming occupational structures, particularly through the enhancement of human capital. However, educational development has not fully reduced social stratification because disparities in educational access, socioeconomic conditions, and unequal resource distribution between rural and urban areas remain significant. The findings further demonstrate that changes in social stratification cannot be adequately explained by either the Modernization or Dependency perspective alone. Instead, both perspectives complement each other in explaining how educational development simultaneously promotes social mobility while remaining constrained by structural inequalities. Therefore, equitable educational policies are essential to foster inclusive social transformation and reduce disparities between rural and urban communities in East Java..

Abstract

Human rights are fundamental rights inherent in every individual and serve as the foundation for a just state governance system. In the perspective of Islamic constitutional law, human rights are rooted in sharia principles aimed at achieving public welfare. This study aims to analyze the concept of human rights in Islamic constitutional law and examine the role of the state in guaranteeing, protecting, and enforcing these rights. The research employs a normative juridical approach by reviewing legal doctrines, Islamic legal principles, and relevant regulations. The findings indicate that human rights in Islam encompass both moral and legal dimensions, interconnected through the principles of huququl ibad and maqashid al-shariah. The state plays a strategic role as a protector and guarantor of rights through a fair, transparent, and non-discriminatory legal system. Furthermore, the implementation of human rights in Indonesia reflects the substantive integration of Islamic values within the constitutional framework and public policies. However, challenges remain in harmonizing sharia values with modern human rights standards. Therefore, strengthening the role of the state and public awareness is essential to ensure optimal human rights protection.

Abstract

A multicultural society is characterized by diversity in religion, culture, ethnicity, language, and traditions. While such diversity enriches social life, it also has the potential to generate conflict if not managed effectively. This study aims to analyze the urgency, objectives, forms, and implementation of interfaith and intercultural dialogue in fostering harmony within multicultural societies. The research employs a qualitative method using a library research approach by analyzing various relevant literature sources. The findings indicate that interfaith and intercultural dialogue play a significant role in reducing prejudice, preventing social conflict, strengthening social cohesion, and fostering mutual respect amid diversity. Such dialogue aims to promote mutual understanding, enhance social cooperation, and develop tolerance among different groups. The forms of dialogue include the dialogue of life, dialogue of action, theological dialogue, dialogue of religious experience, as well as cultural and artistic dialogue. From an Islamic perspective, these forms of dialogue are consistent with the values of tolerance, peace, and respect for humanity. Therefore, interfaith and intercultural dialogue serve not only as a means of communication but also as a strategic instrument for building a harmonious, inclusive, and peaceful society.

Abstract

This study examines the representation of emotion management in the film *Inside Out* through the perspective of *tazkiyatun nafs* (purification of the soul) as articulated by Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyya. The research is motivated by the importance of the ability to manage emotions as a component of human mental health and spiritual development. The film *Inside Out* was selected as the material object because it depicts the dynamics of five core emotions—Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust—that influence the behavior of the protagonist, Riley. The study addresses how emotion management is represented in the film and how this representation can be understood through the concept of *tazkiyatun nafs*. It employs the theory of literary psychology and Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyya’s concept of *tazkiyatun nafs*, which encompasses the stages of *takhalli* (emptying/purging), *tahalli* (adorning/cultivating), and *tajalli* (manifestation/illumination). A descriptive qualitative method was used, with data collection techniques involving observation, documentation, and the recording of dialogue, scenes, and visual narratives from the film. The data were analyzed interpretatively based on the perspectives of literary psychology and Sufism. The findings indicate that *Inside Out* represents emotion management as a process of accepting and balancing the full spectrum of human emotions. Riley’s emotional journey reflects the stage of *takhalli* through awareness of inner conflict, *tahalli* through the development of a positive attitude and emotional openness, and *tajalli* through the attainment of emotional balance and inner peace. Thus, *Inside Out* not only depicts the psychological process of emotion regulation but also represents spiritual values aligned with the Islamic concept of *tazkiyatun nafs*.

Abstract

Religion and culture are two important elements in human life that have a close relationship in shaping the mindset, behavior, and social life of society. In a pluralistic society with diverse religions, ethnicities, and traditions, the relationship between religion and culture becomes an interesting subject of study due to the processes of interaction, adaptation, and continuous meaning-making. This paper aims to examine the relationship between religion and culture in a pluralistic society, the forms of adaptation between religious values and local culture, as well as the role of both in building social harmony. The method used in this study is a literature review method by analyzing various sources related to religion, culture, pluralistic society, and social relations. The results of the study indicate that religion and culture are not always in a conflicting position; rather, they can interact and adapt to each other within social life. Through attitudes of tolerance, openness, and respect for diversity, religion and culture can become factors that strengthen social relations and create a harmonious society.

Abstract

Abstract

Narcotics crime has evolved into one of the most complex forms of contemporary crime, characterized by its transnational network, sophisticated modus operandi, and significant social impact. The aim of this study is to analyse the dynamics of narcotics crime law enforcement in Indonesia from three distinct perspectives: the application of restorative justice, the effectiveness of medical rehabilitation for drug abuse victims and addicts, and the enforcement of capital punishment for narcotics offenders. This study employs a normative legal approach supported by a literature assessment of relevant academic publications and legal statutes. The results indicate that narcotics crime can no longer be approached solely through repressive punishment, but requires a differentiated approach depending on the position of the perpetrator. Drug users and victims of abuse are more appropriately addressed through medical rehabilitation, whereas perpetrators involved in large-scale narcotics trafficking networks remain subject to strict law enforcement, including the threat of capital punishment. However, the implementation of capital punishment faces obstacles such as the absence of a definite time limit for execution and the availability of legal remedies. This study concludes that an integrated approach combining restorative justice, medical rehabilitation, and firm law enforcement against organized crime networks is necessary to effectively address narcotics crime as a form of contemporary crime in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study examines the participation of the Suak Nie village community in the conservation of the Suak Nie City Forest Park in West Aceh. A qualitative approach with a single case study was applied; data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews (Keuchik, youth leader, residents), and focus group discussions (FGDs), then analyzed thematically using source triangulation. Results indicate a low-moderate level of participation, with the dominant forms being fire prevention, water channel cleaning, and fencing to control livestock access. There are differences in perceptions between actors: the Keuchik reported active participation and cooperation with the government, while the youth leader assessed that the community was less participatory due to economic preoccupations and an attitude that the responsibility rests solely with the local government. The threat of peatland fires is a major issue, while illegal logging is limited due to the dominance of fern vegetation. Conclusion: participation is hampered by economic priorities and a lack of coordination. Recommendations: training and outreach programs tailored to agricultural schedules, the establishment of community patrols with simple incentives, and regular reforestation campaigns to raise environmental awareness.
