Abstract

Chronic Periodontitis is one periodontal disease. The main cause of periodontitis chronic disease is bacteria which present in subgingival plaque, that called porphyromonas gingivalis. Chronic periodontitis treatment includes treatment to eliminate pathogenic bacteria such as Porphyromonas gingivalis. Use of probiotics such as yoghurt can be used as s treatment to inhibited pathogenic bacteria because it contains lactic acid bacteria. In this study, uses yoghurt derived from cows milk. This study aims to know the inhibitory from probiotic drinks of yoghurt to Porphyromonas gingivalis in vitro. Cows milk yoghurt is made with adding lactic acid bacteria 2%, 3%, 4%, and 5% concentration. In this research used an agar-well diffusion assay to see inhibited the drink probiotic yoghurt cows milk in Porphyromonas gingivalis. The result was analyzed with one way ANOVA. The result showed there are differences in the inhibition of Porphyromonas gingivalis zone after being exposed to probiotic cows milk yoghurt with concentration 2%, 3%, 4%, and 5% (p0,05). Inhibition zone probiotic drinks of cows milk yoghurt against Porphyromonas gingivalis which made by beginning at probiotic cows milk on the Porphyromonas gingivalis concentration 4% (14,6 mm) and 5% (19,2 mm), both includes as weak category and average according to Ahn classification. The conclusion of this study is probiotic cows milk yoghurt has inhibitory effect againts Porphyromonas gingivalis.Keyword: Chronic periodontitis, Porphyromonas gingivalis, probiotic, cows milk yoghurt.

Abstract

Aceh embroidery is identical with Acehnese motifs that are embroidered manually. This craft is generally used as a souvenir that is implemented in fabrics, bags, wallets, regional clothes and so on. Aceh embroidery innovation has reached the stage of meeting market demand, however, there has been no innovation that leads to the field of dentistry. Therefore, this service aims to develop Acehnese embroidery in the field of dentistry. The method used is training and mentoring methods and strives for effective marketing for partners. The results obtained from this service are partners able to become independent and able to improve their economic level. The results of dedication that have been produced are fabric, Muslim women's prayer dresses, clothes, and veil that have been modified between Acehnese embroidery and dental elements.Keywords: Embroidery, teeth, Aceh, innovation, crafts, dentistry

Abstract

X-rays radiation is an electromagnetic wave that can pass through space and disperse the energy. One of utilization of X-rays radiation in dentistry is diagnostic procedures. In addition, X-rays radiation can also cause some risks, such as cell, tissue, and organ damage. These risks can damage to operators and patients, including pregnant woman who are having treatment using X-rays radiation. The risks of X-rays radiation to pregnant woman can be caused by the lack of knowledge about radiation risk. This research aims to observe the knowledge level of pregnant woman about X-rays radiation effects in dentistry during pregnancy in private midwifery practice Desa Suka Damai Kecamatan Lueng Bata Banda Aceh. The type of this study was descriptive. The subjects were chosen with purposive sampling method obtained to match the inclusion on criteria. Collecting data was done by using questionnaire and distributed to subject who have given the informed concent. The result of this research showed that knowledge level of 30 subjects pregnant woman about X-rays radiation effects in dentistry during pregnancy in private midwifery practice Desa Suka Damai Kecamatan Lueng Bata Banda Aceh which has good category was 20%, fair 36,7%, poor 16,7%, and very poor 26,7%, so it can be concluded that knowledge level of these pregnant woman are dominantly fair.Keywords : X-Rays Radiation in Dentistry, Pregnant Woman, Knowledge.

Abstract

Pit and fissure are varies in shape and depth. Tooth with deep and narrow pit and fissure are susceptible for food and baterial retention that leads to caries formations, so it needs prevention treatment with more effective method such pit and fissure sealant. This study aimed to obtain information about marginal adaptation as mean value of distance between enamel surface and pit and fissure sealant by using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Samples were 4 maxillary premolars with deep and narrow pit and fissure which were applied composite resin (3M ESPE Clinpro) and GIC (Fuji VII) as sealants. Specimens were stored for 24 hours and 1 month in incubator with temperature of 37C and were immersed in 5% methylene blue solution for 24 hours, then were observed under SEM. Analysis result showed mean value of distance between enamel surface and pit and fissure sealants resin based were 1.79 0.026 m after 24 hours application and 1.37 0.004 m after 1 month application while on GIC based were 33.37 1.520 m after 24 hours application and 3.6925 0.710 m after 1 month application. Conclusion of this study, there were a difference mean value of distance between enamel surface and sealants composite resin based and GIC based, where smaller distance was showed after 1 month application than 24 hours application.Keywords: pit and fissure sealants, marginal adaptation, and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM).

Abstract

Dental caries is one of the most common dental and oral helath problem in school-aged children due to lack of understanding and behavior of children in maintaining dental health such as how to toothbrushing and the habit of eating snacks such as sweets. Research purpose is to describe how to toothbrushing and the habit of eating cariogenic foods in scool-ages children especially on classII andIIIstudentsclass atEementary School 54 Tahija Banda Aceh in 2013. This research is descriptiveanalytic. Sample of research is 144 students with total sampling technique. Colleting data usingquestionnaires and observation guided for tooth brushing demonstration. The data are analysed usingdescriptive analysis method. Result of the research showed that some respondents have not correctway to tooth brushing that is much as 52,1% dan most respondents are in the high category to eatcariogenic foods that is much as 53,5%. Expected to the school and the parents to be able to guideand teaches children how to tooth brushing properly and to restrict the eating of cariogenic foods so asto maintain optimal dental health, through cooperation with health workersKeywords: Tooth brushing, food, cariogenik

Abstract

The quality of materials and dental impression techniques is a decisive factor in prosthodontictreatment. In the manufacturing of complete denture, the impression techniques and materials used forimpression are highly dependent on oral conditions and the dentist's konwledge about dentalimpression. There are two impression methods that are static impression and functional impression.These two stages of impressions can be combined in one technique using one kind of impressionmaterial and stock trayand producing functional border molding impression and basal seat. Thetechnique is known as combo technique. The impression tray used can be either an individual tray or astock tray. While the impression material using polyvinyl siloxane (PVS). The viscosity of theimpression material depends on the character and mobility or movement of the soft tissue covering thealveolar bone. Border molding, a low viscosity (heavier viscosity) material is required compared toprecise duplication of the denture base or using lighter viscosity material. The PVS material is goodfor impression on soft tissues of the oral cavity and for static and functional combined procedures. Ifdone according to the procedure, the results of combo techniqueimpression will be accurate andobtained every expected tissue detail.Keyword: complete denture, dental impression, polyvinyl siloxane, impression technique

Abstract

anine guidance is a form of mutually protected articulation in which the vertical and horizontaloverlap of the canine teeth disengage the posterior teeth in the excursive movements of the mandible.The shorter distance to reach disclusion will have better impact to stomatognatic system. The aim ofthis study is to see the distance of posterior teeth of working side disclusion with canine guidanceocclusal scheme. This study is a descriptive survey using crosssectional study desain with 28 totalsubjects. Subject who has canine guidance occlusal scheme will be examinated the distance ofposterior teeth of working side disclusion clinically. The benchmark is made by marking the insisivuscentral maxilla by marker pen. The result of this study on right working side there are 81,8% subjecthad discluded second molar on 1mm, there are 50% subject had discluded first molar on 1 mm,54,5% subject had discluded first and second premolar on 1 mm. The result of this study on leftworking side there are 87% subject had discluded second molar on 1mm, there are 60,9% subject haddiscluded first molar on 1 mm, 56,5% subject had discluded second premolar on 1 mm, 69,6% subject had discluded first premolar on 1 mm. The conclusion of this study is distance of disclusion ofposterior teeth most often occurs on 1 mm for first and second molars, on 2 mm for second and firstpremolar.Keywords: disclusion, working side, canine guidance

Abstract

Periodontal disease is an infectiuos disease that happen of the periodontal tissue. In order to see theprogress of periodontal disease, a proper examination is needed in which it includes clinical andsupporting examination. One of a supporting examination in diagnoses periodontal disease is radiographexamination. Radiographic appearance provide important information since it can show an image that can not be seen by clinical examination like the length of the root, bone height, patterns of bone destructionand others abnormalities of the periodontal tissue except gingival tissue. Abstract

Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis) is a facultative anaerobic Gram-positive bacteria which becomesthe main bacteria occurrence failure of endodontic treatment. The red algae Gracilaria verrucosa (G. verrucosa) is one of the herbal plants that contain antibacterial compounds such as alkaloid,flavonoid, saponin, steroid, and triterpenoid. This study aims to determine the potency red algae G.verrucosa extract as inhibitor of E. faecalis biofilm formation development. The red algae G.verrucosa extract with a concentration of 100%, 75%, 25%, 12,5%, and 6,25% was made inmaceration method using ethanol 96%. Microtiter Plate Biofilm Assay method and ELISA readerwith wavelength 595nm were used to test the biofilm. The result of One Way ANOVA showedp0,05 which mean there was an effect of the test group on the formation of E. faecalis biofilm development and Post Hoc Tests-Duncan showed that there was a significant differences betweeneach group of those concentration. In the treatment group, there was found two concentration thathave significant differences, there were 100% and 6,25%. Based on the result of this study, we canconclude that the red algae G. verrucosa extract was useful as an inhibitor of E. faecalis biofilmformation development. The higher concentration of the red algae G. verrucosa, the higher its abilityas an inhibitor of E. faecalis biofilm formation development.Keywords : Enterococcus faecalis, red algae Gracilaria verrucosa, Microtiter Plate Biofilm Assaymethod, ELISA reader.

Abstract

Lactobacillus acidophilus is bacteria that has a role play in the caries process. Efforts to controlLactobacillus acidophilus are using antibacterial agents from nature, one of these is lime juice (Citrus aurantifolia). Lime juice has citric acid, flavonoids, saponins, fenols, tannins, alkaloids, and vitamin C thathave different antimicrobial action. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of lime juice ongrowth of Lactobacillus acidophilus. The research is a laboratory experimental. Antibacterial activity testwas performed using disc diffusion method consisted of 6 treatments and 3 times repetition. MRS-A ispoured into a petri dish and inoculated suspension of Lactobacillus acidophilus, then 6 paper disc that hassoaked into the lime juice concentration of 12.5, 25, 50, 100%, positive control, and negative control placed on an agar medium has cooled. Then the plates were incubated at 37C for 24 hours. Inhibitionzone of microbial growth were measured and recorded after incubation period. These results showed thatlime juice producing growth inhibition zone against Lactobacillus acidophilus on concentration 12,5% is2,2 mm, concentration 25% is 2,3 mm, concentration 50% is 2,4 mm, and concentration 100% is 3,3mm.The statistic calculation result by using One Way ANOVA is p=0,000 with significance p0,05 Theconclusion of this study is the lime juice has weak inhibitory effect on the growth of Lactobacillusacidophilus.Keywords: Lime juice, caries, Lactobacillus acidophilus, disc diffusion method.
