Abstract

The brackish water ecosystem in the mangrove forest of Teluk Belukar, North Gunungsitoli District, is a coastal area with high biodiversity and significant ecological functions. This study aims to identify the ecological condition of the brackish water ecosystem, the biodiversity it supports, and its role in the surrounding environment. Observations were conducted through field surveys, identification of flora and fauna species, and analysis of water quality based on physical and chemical parameters. The results show that the area is dominated by mangrove species such as Rhizophora mucronata, Avicennia marina, and Sonneratia alba, and serves as a vital habitat for various species of fish, mollusks, and crustaceans. Water salinity ranged from 10 to 20 ppt, indicating a stable brackish water environment.

Abstract

Brackish water ecosystem is a transition system between fresh water and sea that plays an important role in supporting biodiversity and the lives of coastal communities. This study aims to identify biotic and abiotic components in brackish waters, as well as to examine their ecological and social roles. The observation method was carried out in Muara Indah, North Gunungsitoli, with a direct observation approach. The results show that this ecosystem is inhabited by mangrove vegetation such as Rhizophora apiculata and Avicennia marina, as well as fauna such as Scylla serrata and Hemiramphidae. The abiotic components observed include moderate salinity, muddy substrates, and calm water flow. This study emphasizes the importance of sustainable management of brackish water ecosystems that are vulnerable to human activities.

Abstract

Macrobenthos are benthic organisms measuring more than 0.5 mm that live at the bottom of waters such as rivers, lakes, and seas. These organisms play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of aquatic ecosystems, both as decomposers of organic matter, as part of the food chain, and as bioindicators of aquatic environmental quality. This study aims to identify macrobenthos species through image-based visual simulations and to evaluate the potential of each species in indicating water quality conditions. The methods used include morphological classification using simple identification keys, group discussions, and analysis of species tolerance levels to pollution. Five species were identified: Perna viridis, Scylla serrata, Litopenaeus vannamei, Nereis virens, and Panulirus versicolor, which showed varying tolerance levels to water pollution from low to high. These findings reinforce the use of macrobenthos as an effective and economical biological monitoring tool, particularly in educational activities and water resource management. Visual simulations have proven to be a relevant method for enhancing students' understanding of aquatic biodiversity while raising awareness of the importance of aquatic environmental quality.

Abstract

Dissolved oxygen (DO) serves as a crucial parameter in assessing water quality and the health of aquatic ecosystems. The availability of oxygen is essential for the respiratory process of many organisms, such as fish and shrimp. This research explores the elements that influence DO levels, its impact on aquatic life and management methods based on a literature review over the past five years. Several factors such as temperature, photosynthesis, respiration, organic pollution and water movement can significantly affect DO levels. Low DO levels (below 3 mg/L) can cause stress and even death to organisms, especially in contaminated areas. In aquaculture practices, daily changes in DO levels create problems. DO management can be done through the use of aeration technology, utilization of riparian vegetation, and monitoring using IoT-based sensors. Adaptive and collaborative approaches are key factors in maintaining the sustainability of aquatic ecosystems amidst the challenges of climate change and human activities.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of decreased tourism activities on ecosystem balance at Miga Beach, Gunungsitoli. The method used is descriptive qualitative through direct observation in the field. The results show that the decline in tourist visits has a two-way impact. On the one hand, pressure on the environment such as pollution and disturbances to flora and fauna decreased. However, on the other hand, there is damage to facilities, illegal logging, and increased waste due to the lack of supervision and conservation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the contribution of water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) to water quality in aquaculture systems based on phytoremediation in fish farming ponds. The study was conducted descriptively qualitatively through direct observation in Tuhemberua Ulu Village, Gunungsitoli City. Observations showed that water hyacinth dominated the pond surface and played an important role in absorbing polluting nutrients such as ammonia, nitrate and phosphate from organic waste, thus helping to reduce water pollution levels.

Abstract

Water quality is the main factor that influences the survival and productivity of fish in aquaculture systems, including the cultivation of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Earthen ponds are a method that is widely used to cultivate tilapia, but optimal water quality control is needed so that the fish can thrive. Aquaculture or aquaculture is the breeding and care of animals and plants whose habitat is in water. Aquaculture refers to the cultivation and breeding of fish in special locations such as ponds and aquariums. This is done to increase the number of fish we eat or increase the fish population in nature. Types of fish that are used commonly cultivated include carp, salmon, tilapia and catfish. A pond is a piece of land that can hold a certain amount of water and is used to raise or cultivate fish. The Skills Education book states that pond cultivation has several special functions. The main function is to better organize fish cultivation. A pond is a piece of land that can hold a certain amount of water and is used to raise or cultivate fish. Abstract

Littering has become a major contributor to water pollution, especially in urban areas and watersheds. This article aims to analyse the spread of polluted water due to people's behaviour in disposing of waste, based on a review of recent literature. The method used is a literature study of various relevant national scientific journals for 2021-2025. The results showed that unmanaged household waste, plastic, and organic waste are the dominant factors in water pollution, which has an impact on the decline in the quality of aquatic ecosystems, public health, and social and economic damage. Integrated waste management, environmental education, and strict monitoring of community behaviour are needed as the main solutions.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the implementation of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) in a home-scale amplang (fish cracker) processing industry using Spanish mackerel in Singkawang City. The method used was direct observation of production facilities, processing activities, and supporting infrastructure, assessed against the standards of Ministry Regulation No. 17 of 2019 and No. 75/M-IND/PER/7/2010. The results indicated compliance in areas such as space separation, clean water usage, and production recordkeeping. However, weaknesses were identified in employee training, hygiene supervision, sanitation documentation, and waste management. In conclusion, GMP and SSOP principles have been applied but not yet optimally, requiring continuous improvements in human resources, facilities, and documentation systems.

Abstract

This study aims to apply the principles of clean production and waste management systems in household-scale amplang cracker industries in Singkawang City. These industries produce two main types of waste—solid and liquid—which are mostly not optimally managed. The research method used is qualitative descriptive through field observations and documentation. The results show that clean production practices are still limited to spatial separation in production areas, the use of gas fuel, and routine environmental cleanliness. However, waste management remains unintegrated and reactive. Solid waste such as fish bones and scales is discarded without reuse, while liquid waste is directly discharged into open drains without any treatment. Strengthening technical capacity, providing worker training, and adopting simple technologies are necessary to ensure the comprehensive and sustainable application of clean production principles in these small-scale household industries.
