Abstract

Abstract

The persistence of poverty amidst the advancement of modernity demonstrates the limitations of the dominant approach, which tends to reduce poverty to a purely economic issue. This approach ignores the dimensions of meaning, spirituality, and human existential awareness, thus failing to address the deepest roots of poverty reproduction. The research gap lies in the minimal integration of Islamic theology, Sufism, and existential psychology in building a more holistic alternative paradigm. This article aims to reconstruct the concept of a society without poverty through a theology-meaning approach based on humanistic-existential psychology, specifically Viktor Frankl's logotherapy. This research uses a conceptual qualitative method with an interdisciplinary approach that combines theological, philosophical, and psychological analysis. The analysis technique is carried out through a critical reading of classical and contemporary literature and a conceptual synthesis to formulate a new theoretical model. The main argument of this article asserts that poverty is not only a material crisis, but also a crisis of meaning (existential vacuum) that reinforces the cycle of individual and collective powerlessness. Therefore, efforts to create a society without poverty must involve a transformation of meaning through the reconstruction of theology as an emancipatory force and the integration of existential awareness into social structures. This article's scholarly contribution lies in the development of a meaning-based social transformation paradigm and the introduction of the concept of redistribution of meaning as a complement to economic redistribution in poverty studies. This approach offers a new direction in interdisciplinary research that connects theology, Sufism, and psychology within the framework of sustainable social transformation.

Abstract

The Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) plays a crucial role in the development and fostering of community life. Therefore, it is a unit within the Ministry of Religious Affairs, located in various regions, and directly interacts with the wider community. Islamic law requires a marriage contract (Ijab Qabul), a verbal declaration of the relationship between the bride and groom. The conclusion is that the religious services implemented have been running well. This is evident from several services implemented. The collaboration between KUA officials, counselors, and community leaders has been supported by the latest service program, the KUA Revitalization, a significant breakthrough program implemented by the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Abstract

This article begins with the paradox between the ideals of Islamic theology, which are oriented towards the values of rahmatan lil 'alamin (blessing for the universe) and social realities that are still rife with various forms of structural, cultural, and symbolic oppression. Academic anxiety arises when theology tends to stop at the normative-doctrinal level and has not yet functioned as a force for social transformation. The research gap lies in the absence of integration between theology, social philosophy, and spirituality (Sufism) in formulating an operational and contextual model of a society without oppression. This article uses an integrative theoretical approach based on the tauhidic paradigm that combines the dimensions of revelation, reason, and social reality. The research method used is qualitative through literature study with critical analysis, hermeneutics, and an interdisciplinary approach. The article's main argument asserts that tauhid is not only a theological doctrine but also an emancipatory principle that rejects all forms of domination other than God, thus having direct implications for social liberation. Through this reconstruction, the article offers the concepts of "emancipatory-transformative theology" and "social-progressive Sufism" as a methodological basis for creating a society without oppression. The scholarly contribution of this research lies in the development of a new paradigm in Islamic Studies that integrates theology, philosophy, and spirituality into a framework of social transformation, while also providing a conceptual model applicable to contemporary socio-religious movements.

Abstract

Marriage dowry in Indrajaya Subdistrict, Pidie Regency, is generally standardized in the form of pure gold, which is in line with local culture and customary law, reflecting the strong influence of traditions passed down from generation to generation. This study aims to (1) describe the determination of dowry in the form of gold based on customary law and (2) explain the customary provisions or agreements governing the standard of gold dowry in Indrajaya Subdistrict, Pidie Regency. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design, and data were collected through in-depth interviews with fifteen informants consisting of five keuchik (village heads), five imum meunasah (religious leaders), and five tuha peut (customary elders). The findings indicate that the community in Indrajaya Subdistrict consistently uses gold as dowry in marriage ceremonies and that no substitution with other forms of dowry has ever been found. The use of gold is understood as a symbol of sincerity, honor, and respect for the bride, as well as an effort to preserve local traditions. The determination of the dowry amount is conducted through a structured family deliberation process, beginning with internal discussions within each family. This study concludes that dowry determination in Indrajaya Subdistrict is carried out through family deliberation with gold as the only socially accepted form of dowry and without written sanctions for deviations, and therefore recommends that customary agreements on dowry standards be formally documented and that future research adopt a comparative approach with other subdistricts in Pidie Regency.

Abstract

The persistence of oppression in contemporary society presents a serious paradox amidst the advancement of modernity and growing awareness of social justice. Normatively, Islamic theology affirms the principle of anti-oppression (zulm) through the values of justice ('adl) and social monotheism, but in practice, spirituality is often reduced to ritual symbols that lack the power to social transformation. The research gap lies in the lack of integration between liberation theology, humanistic-existential psychology, and operational models of social movements. This study aims to reconstruct the paradigm of emancipatory theology based on self-actualization as a conceptual foundation for building a society without oppression. The theoretical approach used is the integration of Islamic theology with humanistic-existential psychology, specifically Abraham Maslow's concept of self-actualization. The research method employed is qualitative-conceptual through literature review with critical analysis, hermeneutics, and interdisciplinary synthesis. The main argument of this study asserts that oppression is not merely a structural phenomenon but also an existential crisis that hinders human development toward self-actualization. Therefore, authentic social transformation requires the reconstruction of individual consciousness and the simultaneous transformation of social systems. This research's scientific contribution lies in the formulation of a "Humanistic-Emancipatory Theology" paradigm that integrates spiritual, psychological, and social practical dimensions as a new conceptual model in contemporary Islamic studies. This paradigm not only enriches the theoretical literature but also offers an applicable framework for building social movements oriented toward holistic human liberation.

Abstract

Contemporary social justice discourse is still dominated by a structural approach that emphasizes resource distribution and institutional regulation, but tends to ignore the inner dimension and human consciousness. This limitation creates a significant research gap, namely the absence of integration between psychological-humanistic approaches, existential dimensions, and theological-spiritual frameworks in understanding and transforming justice. This article aims to reconstruct the concept of justice as a process of consciousness transformation through a synthesis of Abraham Maslow's Humanistic-Existential Psychology with theological and Sufi perspectives. The theoretical approach used is integrative-interdisciplinary, combining the concepts of self-actualization and self-transcendence with the values of justice in Islamic spiritual traditions. This research uses a qualitative-conceptual method with a hermeneutic-critical approach to classical and contemporary literature. The main argument of this article emphasizes that justice is not merely the result of structural engineering, but rather an existential process rooted in the transformation of individual consciousness toward an orientation toward transcendent values. Thus, justice is understood as an ethical-spiritual praxis that moves from the individual to the collective level. The scientific contribution of this research lies in the development of an integrative justice framework model that integrates psychological, structural, and spiritual dimensions as a new basis for transformative justice theory. This model offers a more holistic and relevant alternative perspective for the development of justice studies in the context of contemporary global and Muslim societies.

Abstract

Health is a fundamental determinant of individual quality of life and productivity. In Islam, health is perceived as a holistic condition encompassing physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions. This study aims to examine the concept of a healthy lifestyle from an Islamic perspective and its relevance to modern public health approaches. The method employed is a literature review using normative-theological and conceptual approaches. The findings indicate that Islam establishes comprehensive principles of a healthy lifestyle, including the regulation of halal and thayyib dietary practices, balanced consumption, personal hygiene, physical activity, and spiritually grounded mental health. Evidence from the Qur’an and Hadith demonstrates that health is an integral part of maqashid al-sharia, particularly in the preservation of life (hifz al-nafs). This concept aligns with the promotive and preventive paradigms in modern public health. Therefore, the integration of Islamic values into health interventions has the potential to enhance the effectiveness of public health programs.

Abstract

Transformative Islamic theology, developed by Moeslim Abdurrahman and a number of Indonesian Islamic studies writers, emphasizes that faith should not be limited to theory but must be able to penetrate social, political, and economic structures to realize justice and concern for the oppressed. However, much research on its implications remains fragmented: theological, social, political, and economic life are discussed separately, so that the deep connections between these dimensions have not been systematically and analytically examined. This article aims to fill this gap by developing a theoretical-analytical framework for how transformative Islamic theology simultaneously influences these four domains of life. The theoretical approach used is a synthesis of transformative theology, modern social theory, participatory political theory, and economic justice theory, utilizing classical Islamic and modern texts, as well as contemporary empirical studies. Qualitative research methods using textual analysis and case studies are used to explore the implications of transformative theology at the levels of belief, social relations, politics, and the economy. The main argument of this article is that transformative theology can transform theological patterns (inclusive understanding, critique of absolute power), social patterns (equality relations between groups), political patterns (more inclusive political participation), and economic patterns (tendencies toward distributive justice, zakat, waqf, and sharia economics). The greatest scholarly contribution is the strengthening of the "implications of transformative theology" model, which connects theological dimensions with socio-political-economic structures, so that Islamic studies do not stop at the normative level but become a framework for contemporary social interpretation.

Abstract

Fasting is a form of worship that holds spiritual value while also providing benefits for physical and mental health. In Islam, fasting is obligatory for Muslims as a means of increasing piety, self-control, and spiritual purification. On the other hand, developments in modern health science show that fasting also has positive effects on body metabolism and overall health. This study aims to determine the benefits of fasting from Islamic and medical perspectives. The research method used in this study is library research with a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were obtained from the Qur’an, Hadith, books, scientific journals, and various relevant literature related to fasting and health. Data collection techniques were carried out through documentation studies and literature reviews, which were then analyzed descriptively. The results of the study indicate that fasting provides various benefits from an Islamic perspective, including increasing piety, training patience and self-control, fostering social empathy, and strengthening closeness to Allah SWT. From a medical perspective, fasting is beneficial in improving insulin sensitivity, helping with weight management, enhancing body metabolism, reducing inflammation, improving heart and brain health, and supporting cellular regeneration through autophagy. Therefore, fasting not only functions as a spiritual act of worship but also provides health benefits that support the holistic quality of human life.
