Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out vocabulary exercises by using crossword puzzles. The method used in this research is classroom action research (CAR). The subjects in this study were Grade VIII students of SMPN 1 Kayangan, North Lombok Regency. The problem solving framework in this study is formulated in several implementation methods, namely as follows. (1). The initial stage will begin with observing the potential of SMPN 1 Kayangan students, North Lombok Regency, North Lombok Regency. This observation is carried out by attending events held by this community to obtain the necessary data. (2). In the second phase, the research team will prepare various materials related to vocabulary practice using crossword puzzles. These materials are adapted to the experiences and heterogeneity of students at SMPN 1 Kayangan, North Lombok Regency, North Lombok Regency. (3). The final stage is implementation. The results of this study were that almost all participants were enthusiastic and felt the benefits of this training. The implementation of the research for students of SMPN 1 Kayangan, North Lombok Regency can be concluded that it was successful up to the training stage in mastering vocabulary using crossword puzzles. This success was shown, among other things, by: (1) the suitability of the material with the needs of students at SMPN 1 Kayangan, North Lombok Regency in improving their ability to master vocabulary. (2) there was a positive response from the participants considering that research activities were students' needs in order to improve their English skills, and (3) the majority (90%) of the participants had understood the concept of crossword games in improving their ability to master vocabulary so that they were successfully published in national journals.

Abstract

Jamaica Kincaid’s short fiction “Girl” revolves around the stream of consciousness interaction between two women, a mother and a daughter. It was an unconventional text that portrays a mother’s list of rules that her daughter must obey in order to be accepted in society. The aim of this research was to find culture and family’s clash in Jamaica Kincaid’s “Girl”. The method used in this research was the qualitative method with a narrative approach. In this short fiction, culture has an impact on the clash of mother and the child; moreover the mother-child relationship at stake. Mother’s concept that is influenced by culture breaks her relationship with her child because she always tries to make her child appreciated by the society by teaching her culture implicitly. Whereas, child’s concept is far away from culture because she attracts to play and get happiness; it is contrasted with her mother. Every mother has their own experiences in mothering their children which will distinguish it with each other based on their children’s needs. It is important for mother to recognize the special characteristics of their children and accept them as they are. Mother should push aside their personal expectations, focus on what their children wish to accomplish and realize that their children are not their continuation but they have a life of their own. It’s best then for them to let their kids set their own targets according to what the children want and need. It is not healthy for mother to live vicariously through her daughter or try to make her daughter be like them. They should not to dictate their daughters’ goals, but it is better to guide them and support them in learning to set goals themselves.

Abstract

This research is the use of pictures in increasing students’ vocabulary mastery at the first Grade Students of SMP Negeri 1 Kayangan in Academic Year 2022/2023. The kind of this research is a classroom action research (CAR). The populations of this research were all students of the first grade student of SMPN 1 Kayangan that consists of 117 students. Meanwhile the subject research was VII c because they were less in mastery vocabulary, then the technique of collecting data was observation and test. In addition in analyzing the numerical data, the researcher gained the average students score in each cycle, the mean score of the first cycle was 5.73 and at the second cycle was 7.48, and the curriculum standar of Minimum Completness Criteria (MCC) at the first cycle was 53.57% it had not reached yet the classical sucsessful criteria, because the classical successful learning must be >60% and at the second cycle was 71.42%, so it can be said succes because 71.42% higher than >60. It can be concluded that the use of picture was able to increase the students’ vocabulary mastery at the first grade students of SMPN 1 Kayangan in academic year 2022/2023.

Abstract

The aim of this research is how to find out a relevant method to teach the students on reading comprehension for the second year students of MTS Al-Ikhlas, Pandan Tinggang, Batu Jangkih, Southwest Praya of central Lombok in academic year 2021/2022.This research is used reading comprehension and small group discussion in teaching reading comprehension. The kind of this research is a classroom action research (CAR). The populations of this research were all students of the second grade student of MTS Al-Ikhlas that consists of 16 students. Meanwhile the subject research was VIIa because they were less in comprehension of the text through reading activity, then the technique of collecting data was observation and test. In addition in analyzing the numerical data, the writer gained the average students score in each cycle. The use of small group discussion in teaching is able to improve the students’ English reading skills. It is proved that students score at the second cycle is higher than at the first cycle; the mean score of the first cycle were 5.73 and at the second cycle were 7.48, and the curriculum standar of Minimum Completness Criteria (MCC) at the first cycle were 53.57% it had not reached yet the classical sucsessful criteria,because the classical successful learning must be >60% and at the second cycle were 71.42%,so it can be said succes because 71.42% of the students got >60. Abstract

Penggunaan mesin terjemahan online mencuri perhatian bagi sebagian besar penerjemah ataupun mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan tugas mentransfer informasi, ide, ataupun pesan dari satu bahasa ke bahasa lainnya. Aplikasi terjemahan menjadi sebuah media yang menarik karena memiliki banyak fitur yang memberikan kemudahan-kemudahan bagi para penggunanya. keberadaan sebuah media atau alat yang dikenal sebagai mesin terjemahan pada dasarnya adalah sebuah alat bantu yang mana untuk mencapai hasil terjemahan yang memenuhi standar akurasi, keberterimaan, dan keterbacaan, seorang penerjemah harus tetap menggunakan pengetahuan dan keterampilannya dalam memoles kalimat ataupun teks sehingga mampu menghasilkan terjemahan yang berkualitas sesuai dengan standar.

Abstract

The object of this study is to find out the implement of using mind mapping techniques to improve students’ reading comprehension in narrative texts. The data were gathered through test which were delivered into the pre-test and post-test. Based on the result of the research showed that mind mapping technique is improve students’ reading comprehension in narrative text, because the value of gained score (20.77) is higher than the control class (10.77). From the result of statistic hypothesis, has significance value 0.001. Based on the significance table is 0.05, meanings that 0.05 > 0.001. In other word the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the Null Hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Therefore, teaching reading comprehension of narrative text has improves through mind mapping technique.

Abstract

In this research discusses how English is learned by beach traders in Sanggigi, Indonesia. The globalization and technology on the rise, having strong English skills is becoming increasingly important to be competitive in various fields, including tourism. This study uses qualitative methods, specifically ethnography study, to examine how these traders acquire English language. The research explores two main approaches: formal education (courses, high school) for those with a traditional learning background, and informal learning through listening, remembering, imitating, and direct interaction for those without formal schooling. Based on the results of data analysis conducted by researcher, can conclude that the second language acquisition on the beach traders Sanggigi is through several processes, namely: traders who have a formal education base in obtaining a second language, such as Following Course Institution, high school and second language that can be through lectures. and traders who do not have a formal school education background get a second language through Listening, Remembering and Imitating, and experience directly.

Abstract

This study explores the effectiveness of digital writing tools in enhancing creative writing skills among second-semester students in the English Department at Qamarul Huda Badaruddin University in 2024. With the increasing integration of technology in education, digital tools offer innovative ways to support and improve students' writing abilities. This research aims to assess the current creative writing skills of students, identify the digital writing tools they frequently use, evaluate the impact of these tools on their writing, and understand their perceptions towards the use of technology in the writing process. A mixed-method approach was employed, combining quantitative surveys, qualitative interviews, and analysis of writing samples. Participants included second-semester students who underwent a pre-test to evaluate their initial creative writing skills. Following this, they received training and used various digital writing tools throughout the semester. A post-test assessed any improvements in their writing abilities, complemented by follow-up interviews to gather in-depth insights into their experiences. The results indicated a significant improvement in students' creative writing skills, as evidenced by higher post-test scores. Students reported increased motivation, better organization, and enhanced creativity when using digital tools. Commonly used tools included word processors, grammar checkers, and creative writing software, which collectively contributed to a more engaging and effective writing process. This study concludes that digital writing tools can substantially enhance creative writing skills among university students. The findings provide practical recommendations for educators to incorporate these tools into their teaching methods, thereby fostering a more interactive and productive learning environment.

Abstract

Keefektifan Pengunaan Model Hot Seating dalam Pengajaran Keterampilan Berbicara Siswa Studi Kasus MA NW Tanak Beak Barat Tahun Ajaran 2023/2024. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui keefektifan penggunaan model hot seating dalam pengajaran keterampilan berbicara siswa di MA NW Tanak Beak Barat. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan jenis penelitian pre-experimental. Sampel penelitian ini adalah kelas sepuluh terdiri dari 29 siswa 18 perempuan dan 11 laki-laki. Instrument penelitian yang di gunakan adalah tes oral speaking dengan pre-test dan post-test. Dalam pengumpulan data, peneliti menggunakan pre-test, post-test, wawancara, kuisioner dan dokumentasi. Sedangkan untuk analisis data, peneliti menggunakan rumus uji sampel berpasangan yang dihitung menggunakan SPSS versi 20 untuk mengetahui hasil pre-test dan post-test. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang sudah dilakukan dapat dijelaskan bahwa penggunaan model hot seating mempunyai pengaruh dalam pengajaran keterampilan berbicara siswa. Hal ini terlihat dari hasil uji t sampel berpasangan dimana Sig (2 tailed) memperoleh nilai 0.000 yang berarti lebih kecil dari nilai significant 0.05. Ha diterima dan Ho ditolak. Berdasarkan hasil tes tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa model hot seating mempengaruhi keterampilan berbicara siswa. Hal ini berarti, terdapat pengaruh yang significant dari penggunaan model hot seating dalam pengajaran keterampilan berbicara siswa.

Abstract

Moralitas telah menjadi masalah umum dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, termasuk pendidikan. Di lingkungan sekolah, moralitas berkaitan dengan perilaku siswa dalam interaksi sehari-hari, baik dengan sesama teman maupun dengan guru. Namun, ada sejumlah siswa di sekolah yang akhlaknya perlu ditingkatkan. Salah satu cara untuk mengajarkan moralitas kepada siswa adalah dengan menggunakan film-film yang mengandung pelajaran yang baik. Dalam penelitian ini, film Rudy Habibie digunakan untuk pembelajaran akhlak dengan siswa SMA Islam Uswatun Hasanah dalam rangka peningkatan pengetahuan tentang akhlak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: 1) mengetahui nilai-nilai moral yang diajarkan dalam film Rudy Habibie; 2) mendeskripsikan bagaimana nilai-nilai moral dalam film Rudy Habibie terkait dengan sastra SMA; 3) mendeskripsikan bagaimana nilai-nilai moral film Rudy Habibie dapat meningkatkan karakter siswa di SMA Uswatun Hasanah. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif. Penelitian ini menggunakan angket, catatan lapangan, wawancara, video atau foto sebagai instrumen. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas II SMA Islam Uswatun Hasanah. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan kuesioner yang terdiri dari 20 pertanyaan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: 1) Film Rudy Habibie memiliki banyak nilai moral yang dapat dipelajari oleh siapa saja, khususnya pelajar; 2) Film Rudy Habibie dapat memotivasi siswa untuk memiliki akhlak yang baik seperti yang ditunjukkan oleh tokoh-tokoh dalam film tersebut dan siswa dapat mengambil beberapa nilai moral dari film tersebut; 3) tidak semua siswa dapat termotivasi melalui film, dan film memiliki keterbatasan untuk mengubah moralitas masyarakat; 4) kebiasaan tidak dapat diubah dengan cepat dan mudah hanya dengan menonton film, dibutuhkan lebih banyak upaya internal dan eksternal, juga membutuhkan waktu lebih lama dari hanya satu atau dua jam menonton film.
