Nawasena Bhakti: Journal of Community Service is a scientific journal that serves as a platform for publishing the outcomes of community service activities conducted by academics, researchers, and practitioners. This journal is published twice a year, in June and December. Nawasenabhakti focuses on disseminating knowledge and practical experiences derived from the application of science, technology, and the arts that directly benefit the wider community. The articles featured in this journal cover a wide range of fields, such as education, health, economics, environment, appropriate technology, and community empowerment. Abstract

Creative thinking skills are essential 21st-century competencies that must be developed early. In this digital era, technological tools like Canva can serve as a medium to foster students' visual creativity at the elementary level. This activity was conducted through training and mentoring for 5th-grade students at SDN Panjunan 2. The material covered the basics of graphic design, the use of Canva features, and practical exercises to create visual works such as greeting cards and thematic posters. Students showed increased enthusiasm and ability to express ideas visually. Some of their works were displayed in a classroom gallery. Canva is proven to be an effective tool to promote students' creativity and can be an alternative creative learning medium based on digital technology.

Abstract

The utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the field of design has become an urgent need in vocational education, particularly for students of Vocational High Schools (SMK) majoring in Visual Communication Design (DKV), in response to the demands of the creative industry that emphasize efficiency, technological adaptability, and work readiness. The main problem identified is the limited understanding and skills of students in using AI productively and ethically within the design process, both among Grade XI students who are preparing for internships and Grade X students studying Informatics. This activity aims to introduce fundamental concepts, potential applications, and practical uses of AI in graphic design in a contextual manner aligned with industry needs. The implementation method consisted of four stages: socialization, training, evaluation, and follow-up. The results indicate a high level of student enthusiasm, as reflected in active participation and the emergence of critical questions regarding creativity, originality of works, and the impact of AI on future career prospects in the creative industry. Hands-on practice proved particularly beneficial for Grade XI students by improving efficiency and timeliness in completing design tasks as preparation for internships. This activity concludes that the introduction of AI accompanied by applied practice can enhance technological literacy, job-related skills, and students’ critical thinking in facing collaboration between humans and technology in the creative industry.

Abstract

Pesatnya perkembangan teknologi digital menuntut siswa SMK, khususnya jurusan Rekayasa Perangkat Lunak (RPL), untuk menguasai desain UI/UX yang relevan dengan kebutuhan industri. Namun, kurikulum SMK Miftahul Hikmah masih berfokus pada pemrograman tanpa materi UI/UX. Program Pengabdian Masyarakat (PKM) ini menyelenggarakan pelatihan Figma bagi siswa kelas X RPL, memanfaatkan fitur kolaborasi real-time, antarmuka intuitif, dan berbasis cloud. Pelatihan meliputi konsep UI/UX, penggunaan alat Figma (seperti prototyping, layers, plugin), serta praktik mendesain halaman login. Hasilnya, siswa mampu merancang antarmuka fungsional tanpa coding, dengan evaluasi menunjukkan antusiasme tinggi dan kesesuaian materi dengan kurikulum serta industri. Kegiatan ini menekankan perlunya integrasi design thinking dalam pendidikan vokasi untuk menjawab tantangan keterampilan digital dan mempersiapkan siswa memasuki dunia kerja IT.

Abstract

Mental health problems among university students are an issue that is receiving increasing attention, particularly among students of the Faculty of Health Sciences who face high academic and clinical practice demands. Limited understanding of mental health and strategies for preventing psychological problems can negatively affect students’ well-being and academic performance. This community service activity aimed to enhance the knowledge, awareness, and skills of students of the Faculty of Health Sciences at UNUGIRI regarding the importance of maintaining mental health as a preventive effort against psychological problems. The implementation methods included socialization, training, and evaluation. The socialization stage was conducted through the delivery of educational materials and interactive discussions, while the training focused on strengthening basic skills in managing stress and emotions. Evaluation was carried out using pre-tests and post-tests to measure improvements in participants’ knowledge. The results showed an increase in the average knowledge scores of students after the educational intervention, indicating a significant improvement in understanding. In addition, students demonstrated more positive attitudes toward mental health issues. It can be concluded that mental health education through socialization and training is effective in improving students’ mental health literacy. This activity is expected to serve as a sustainable community service model to support student mental health in higher education institutions.

Abstract

The economic problems of rural communities and the low utilization of household waste into economically valuable products remain challenges in efforts to improve community welfare. Used cooking oil waste, which is generally discarded directly, has the potential to cause environmental pollution if not managed properly. This community service activity aims to enhance the skills and economic independence of the community through training in making eternal candles in Gunungrejo Village, Kedungpring District, Lamongan Regency. The method of implementing the activities was carried out through several stages, namely preparation, socialization, practical training, evaluation, and follow-up community assistance. The training was conducted on December 24, 2024, using a hands-on method for processing used cooking oil into eternal candles that have utility and market value. The results of the activities showed an increase in the knowledge and skills of the community in utilizing household waste into creative products, as well as the emergence of motivation to develop home-based businesses centered on eternal candles. This activity has a positive impact on increasing environmental awareness, productive skills, and opportunities for sustainable economic independence of the community.
