Abstract

Banking plays a crucial role in today's society, from fund collection activities, providing loans, to other operations managed by banks that significantly affect the financial flow within the community. Therefore, individuals need to evaluate the financial performance of banking institutions. Based on this premise, this study aims to analyze the extent to which company characteristics, namely capital adequacy, asset quality, leverage, firm size, and firm age, affect the financial performance of banks in Indonesia, as proxied by Return on Assets (ROA). The analytical method employed in this study is multiple linear regression using secondary data, processed through statistical software. The population consists of 47 banks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), with the sampling technique using non-probability sampling, resulting in a total of 20 banks as the sample. Based on the analysis results, the variables of capital adequacy, asset quality, leverage, firm size, and firm age simultaneously have a positive and significant effect on the financial performance of banks. Partially, capital adequacy and firm age have no significant effect on financial performance. Asset quality and leverage have a negative and significant effect, while firm size has a positive and significant effect on bank financial performance. Future research is expected to analyze other factors, both financial and non-financial, that may influence banking performance.

Abstract

Abscess is a collection of pus in a tissue, usually caused by bacterial infection. The main symptoms of abscess are local pain, warmth and oedema (if the abscess is located close to the skin layer) or can be accompanied by constitutional symptoms (if the abscess is far from the skin layer or deep). In this case report, we report a case of extensive subcutaneous abscess in a woman with diabetes mellitus complicated by sepsis. The patient came with complaints of enlarged boils in the abdominal area for 2 weeks ago, this complaint was accompanied by other signs and symptoms of infection. The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) in 2014 classified SSTI into purulent (furuncles, carbuncles, and abscesses) and non-purulent (cellulitis, erysipelas, and necrotizing infections). There are several predisposing factors for skin abscesses, namely skin trauma, oedema caused by impaired lymphatic flow and venous insufficiency, obesity, immunosuppressive conditions (diabetes, HIV), previous infections (tinea, impetigo, varicella) and previous venous actions. Patients with sepsis syndrome or life-threatening infections need immediate surgical intervention and given combination antibiotics.

Abstract

On Wednesday, February 5, 2025, the Head of the State Civil Service Agency (BKN) of the Republic of Indonesia issued a strong warning to newly elected regional heads for the 2025–2030 term regarding the appointment of new personnel, particularly special staff. Prof. Zudan emphasized that appointing new staff must follow the legal recruitment path, namely through the State Civil Apparatus (ASN) and Government Employees with Work Agreements (PPPK), as regulated in Law No. 20 of 2023 on the State Civil Apparatus. However, the Governor of the Jakarta Special Region, Pramono Anung, asserted that Jakarta has special characteristics that allow the appointment of special staff. In accordance with Law No. 2 of 2024, which governs the Special Region of the Province of Jakarta, and based on the principle of lex superior derogat legi generali, the higher regulation overrides the general law. Article 38 paragraphs (1) and (2) of Law No. 2 of 2024 explicitly state that the Governor has the authority to appoint special staff, with detailed provisions regarding the requirements, appointment procedures, and remuneration to be regulated through a Governor Regulation.

Abstract

To fulfill cost, quality, and schedule restrictions, construction projects must carefully plan, execute, and oversee project management. Construction delays frequently raise expenses and lower quality. An operational Water Supply System (SPAM) is essential in distant places like tiny islands. The Seawater Reverse Osmosis (RO) SPAM Project on Maratua Island deviated 6% from the contract timeline. This study analyzes and ranks delay factors in SPAM project development on Small Islands. This study collected primary data from 90 respondents (30 Consultants, 30 Executors/Contractors, and 30 Owners/Ministry of PUPERA) using non-experimental surveys. Validity and reliability testing, the Index of Importance for ranking, and Factor Analysis (PCA) to minimize and cluster the 23 original variables were performed. PCA divided the variables into three main categories that explained 61.808% of variation. Transportation, Geographical Location, Material, and Equipment were the biggest factor, accounting for 51.801% of variation. This component includes logistical challenges like distant site transportation and import delays. Second was Manpower, Scope Changes & Work Documents (5.404%), then Planning and Coordination (4.603%). Poor contractor job performance was the biggest delay issue. To reduce delays in small island SPAM projects, logistics planning and integrated multi-party project management must be urgently evaluated.
