Abstract

This study establishes the role of digital literacy in explaining the connection between Islamic primary education and the current role of Pakistani youth in the political process. In the age when more and more of the political processes take place online, it is crucial to comprehend how religious learning and digital skills converse to create youth interest in the democratic processes. The research information was derived through self-administered structured questionnaire among 250 youngsters in urban centers of Pakistan as a result of which 198 workable responses were obtained. The mediation analysis conducted with the method of regression indicated that Islamic education has a considerable positive effect on youth political participation, and one of the mediators of this association is digital literacy. The results show that the youths who have developed greater COMPETENCE with regard to the process of Islamic education are more politically convened once empowered with digital know-how they would consider participating in online civil discourses and to gain exposure to a varied range of views. Indeed, the study convinces the educational policymakers, specifically those who handle the educational institutions that are under the banner of Islam to inculcate the aspects of digital literacy development in educational programs so as to raise informed and engaged citizens. Contribution to larger debate Modernization is a process that implies the increase of active and active citizens in urban settings across the world, and more specifically the involvement of religion and technology in everyday life is a topic that can be discussed, and this work helps to do so.

Abstract

Inclusive financial services play a crucial role in enhancing family economic resilience, particularly for micro and small business owners. However, challenges remain in utilizing banking services, such as limited financial literacy and access to capital. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of BRI's financial services in strengthening family resilience through the perspective of maslahah mursalah. This research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method on MSME customers who utilize People's Business Credit (KUR) and BRI's digital services. The study involved eight informants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate that BRI's services significantly contribute to improving family economic stability by providing broader access to capital, enhancing financial literacy, and supporting small business growth. From the perspective of maslahah mursalah, these services fulfill the principles of utility (jalb al-mashalih) and harm prevention (dar’ al-mafasid), although challenges remain in optimizing digital financial inclusion and simplifying administrative processes. The study's implications highlight the importance of increasing financial literacy, optimizing digital services, and fostering collaboration with the government and Islamic financial institutions to sustainably strengthen family economic resilience.

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the determinants of SEZ among pregnant women in the Jakarta area and formulate intervention strategies that are in line with Islamic principles. This study used data from the DKI Jakarta health information system for the period January - May 2025 with a cross sectional design involving 383 pregnant women. The analysis step formed a logistic regression biner. The results of this study showed that the variables that significantly influenced the variables of Maternal Weight (p=<2e-16), Maternal Height (p=2.88e-07) and Domicile (p=0.0325) significantly influenced the SEZ of pregnant women with the Odds ratio value of Domicile (1.85%), Maternal Weight (26%), Maternal TB (16.1%). Pregnant women who live in areas with high population density OR (1.85) have 84.9% times higher risk of experiencing SEZ than pregnant women who live in areas with low population density. Maternal Weight OR of (0.74) indicates that pregnant women with body weight >145cm have a lower risk of developing SEZ, meaning that the risk of SEZ decreases by 25.6%. Maternal Height OR (1.16) indicates that every increase in the height category of pregnant women was associated with a 16% increase in the risk of developing SEZ. From an Islamic perspective, efforts to maintain maternal and fetal health are an implementation of the Maqasid Sharia principle, namely the protection of the soul (hifz al-nafs) and offspring (hifz al-nasl).

Abstract

The phenomenon of cryptocurrency adoption among Indonesia's urban communities is on the rise, following rapid digital economic development. However, the involvement of Muslim communities—including Muhammadiyah members—has sparked ethical and Islamic legal debates regarding the legitimacy and safety of cryptocurrencies. Diverse perspectives among religious authorities and the low level of digital sharia literacy underscore the importance of Muhammadiyah’s response and approach to this issue. This study aims to elaborate on Muhammadiyah’s response, legal (fatwa) arguments, and approaches regarding the phenomenon of cryptocurrencies, particularly in urban environments that are vulnerable to speculative investment and lack sharia understanding. The research uses a qualitative descriptive method with literature review, analyzing official fatwas, academic literature, and Muhammadiyah’s religious education practices related to cryptocurrency. It also includes a comparative analysis with other Islamic authorities in Indonesia. The Tarjih and Tajdid Council of Muhammadiyah has issued a fatwa declaring the use of cryptocurrency, as both a means of exchange and an investment instrument, as haram. The main reasons for this decision are its speculative nature (maysir), uncertainty (gharar), extreme volatility, and lack of clear underlying asset. Muhammadiyah believes cryptocurrency does not satisfy sharia economic principles and tends to bring harm to society. Muhammadiyah’s approach emphasizes community-based education, digital da’wah, and the enhancement of sharia financial literacy to protect urban communities from speculative investments and digital fraud risks.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) of Islamic da‘wah targeting Generation Z (Gen-Z) in Indonesia, focusing on the formulation of innovative and adaptive strategies. Employing a qualitative descriptive-analytical method, the research draws on participatory observation and document analysis. The findings show that Islamic da‘wah has significant strengths in adapting to digital platforms such as social media and video-sharing apps, with visually engaging content that resonates with Gen-Z. Community-based approaches also foster emotional engagement with Islamic values. However, weaknesses remain, including limited digital literacy among preachers and the lack of structured, consistent content. Conventional da‘wah models are often too formal, making them less appealing to Gen-Z’s preference for interactive and expressive communication. Opportunities lie in the expansive reach of digital media and Gen-Z’s growing interest in social and global issues. Da‘wah that promotes values like justice, compassion, and social responsibility aligns with Gen-Z’s concerns. Nevertheless, several threats challenge the effectiveness of da‘wah, including the unregulated flow of online information, exposure to misleading or radical content, and the influence of pop culture and hedonism, which can fuel skepticism toward religious symbols. Social polarization further necessitates inclusive and non-dogmatic approaches. The study concludes that effective da‘wah strategies should strengthen digital competencies among da'i, develop structured content, and align messaging with Gen-Z’s digital culture while emphasizing Islam’s universal values. A strategic, contextual approach is essential for ensuring that Islamic da‘wah remains relevant, engaging, and impactful for Gen-Z.

Abstract

Widows in urban Muslim societies frequently confront significant economic and social vulnerabilities following spousal loss, facing challenges in securing sustainable livelihoods and providing for their families. This study examines the implementation of an Islamic values-based educational strategy within the HIJAB (Himpunan Janda Berkarya) program at PKBM Mutiara Bina Insani, Trenggalek, designed to foster holistic independence. The research aims to analyze the integration of Islamic principles in educational practices and assess its impact on participants' economic, social, and spiritual autonomy. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with widows and program facilitators, participatory observation, and document analysis. Findings reveal that the program successfully incorporates Islamic values—such as perseverance (sabr), trust in God (tawakkal), and community responsibility—into practical skill-building and emotional support systems. This integration has enabled widows to develop sustainable micro-enterprises, strengthen social support networks, and enhance their religious identity. The program demonstrates a viable model for faith-based community development, contributing to the socio-economic resilience of urban Muslim families. The study concludes that Islamic value-based educational strategies are effective in promoting comprehensive empowerment, suggesting their potential for replication in similar urban Muslim communities facing parallel challenges of widowhood and economic marginalization.

Abstract

This study investigates the childfree decision among urban Muslim youth in Indonesia, focusing on the negotiation between contemporary personal autonomy, patriarchal traditions, and religious expectations. Employing a qualitative methodology centered on discourse analysis, the research utilizes a dual framework of feminist theory and progressive Islamic interpretation. It explores the interaction between feminist ideals of reproductive rights and gender equality and the religious discourses of Indonesia's two largest Islamic organizations, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah. The findings indicate that NU adopts a conditional, permissible (mubah) stance on childfree choices when justified by health or economic considerations, whereas Muhammadiyah embraces more progressive, modernist perspective that frames the decision as a matter of social responsibility. From a feminist standpoint, the childfree choice is conceptualized as an assertion of autonomy and resistance to the patriarchal "motherhood imperative." The study identifies substantial tensions between the rights-based discourse of feminism and the permission-based reasoning characteristic of progressive Islam. Nevertheless, it also identifies opportunities for alignment through reinterpretive strategies that foreground Islamic principles of public interest (maslahah) and the prohibition of coercion. The research concludes that fostering dialogue between feminist hermeneutics and progressive Islamic thought can promote a more inclusive understanding of family and personal choice, thereby reconciling religious faith with the evolving realities faced by urban Muslim youth in Indonesia.
