Abstract

Non-communicable diseases remain a major public health challenge in Indonesia and are closely associated with the increasing consumption of processed foods high in sugar, salt, and fat. The implementation of the Nutri-Level Label on food packaging has been introduced as a public health policy to assist consumers in making healthier food choices. This community service program aimed to improve public knowledge and skills in understanding and utilizing the Nutri-Level Label as a basis for selecting healthier food products. An educational-participatory approach was employed through health education sessions and hands-on demonstrations on how to interpret Nutri-Level Labels displayed on food packaging. The program was conducted in June 2026 at the Sawah Besar District Sports Hall and involved 48 community participants. Participants' knowledge was assessed using a 10-item pre-test and post-test questionnaire covering the concept, function, label categories, and practical application of the Nutri-Level Label. The findings demonstrated an increase in the mean knowledge score from 61.5 before the intervention to 87.8 after the intervention. The proportion of participants with good knowledge increased from 31.3% to 85.4%, while those with poor knowledge decreased from 27.0% to 0%. Participants also showed improved ability to identify Nutri-Level categories and compare food products based on their nutritional quality. These findings indicate that educational interventions combined with practical demonstrations effectively enhance nutrition literacy and support the implementation of the Nutri-Level Label policy to promote healthier dietary behaviors.

Abstract

Abstract Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hypercholesterolemia, and hyperuricemia are a growing health problem and a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Indonesia. Low public awareness of the importance of regular health checkups has resulted in many cases of NCDs going undetected in their early stages. This community service activity aims to increase public knowledge and awareness regarding the importance of early NCD detection through health screenings and health education. The activity was conducted in Sawah Besar Subdistrict, Central Jakarta, involving 47 participants consisting of community members and health cadres. The methods used included a pre-test, health examinations (blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, and uric acid), health education, counseling on test results, and a post-test to evaluate participants’ knowledge gain. The results showed that the proportion of participants with “good” knowledge increased from 60% on the pre-test to 93% on the post-test. In addition, the health screening results identified 14 participants with high blood pressure, 4 participants with random blood glucose levels >200 mg/dL, and 6 participants with uric acid levels above the normal range, enabling participants to receive recommendations for follow-up care at health care facilities. This initiative demonstrates that the combination of health screenings, health education, and individual counseling is an effective promotive and preventive strategy for improving community health literacy, supporting the early detection of NCDs, and encouraging the sustainable adoption of healthy lifestyle behaviors. Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) remains a major public health problem in Indonesia and requires active community participation in its prevention and control. This community service program aimed to empower larval monitoring cadres (Juru Pemantau Jentik [Jumantik]) by improving their knowledge of dengue, preventive measures, and mosquito larval inspection in residential settings in Sunter Agung Urban Village, Tanjung Priok Subdistrict, North Jakarta. The program consisted of educational sessions on dengue and its prevention, demonstrations of mosquito larval inspection techniques, and knowledge assessments using pre- and post-tests. A total of 21 Jumantik cadres participated in the program. Before the intervention, 47.6% of the participants had moderate knowledge, 28.6% had poor knowledge, and 23.8% had good knowledge. After the intervention, the post-test knowledge score increased to 71.4%. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test showed a statistically significant difference in knowledge scores before and after the intervention (Z = ?3.900, p < .001). These findings indicate that health education combined with demonstrations of mosquito larval inspection techniques was effective in improving the cadres’ knowledge and strengthening their role in community-based dengue prevention. Continuous mentoring and regular larval monitoring are recommended to sustain the cadres’ participation in dengue prevention and control. Keywords: Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever; education; Jumantik cadres; mosquito larvae inspection.
