Abstract

Medicine is one of the human endeavors to maintain health and sustain life. In practice, several types of treatment use substances or objects prohibited in Islam, such as alcohol, pork, and other impure substances. This issue has given rise to differing views among Islamic scholars regarding the legality of their use, particularly in emergencies. This study aims to determine the legality of medical treatment using prohibited substances from an Islamic perspective, based on the Quran, Hadith, and the opinions of Islamic scholars. The research method used was library research with a descriptive-analytical approach through a review of various Islamic literature. The results indicate that the basic law for using prohibited substances for treatment is haram. However, in emergencies where halal alternatives with equivalent benefits are not available, their use can be permitted under certain conditions, such as urgent need, expert recommendation, and avoidance of excessive use. Thus, Islam upholds the principle of halal while providing convenience for the community in certain circumstances.   Keywords: Medicine, Haram Substances, Islamic Law, Emergency, Halal Medicine

Abstract

Interfaith marriage is a legal and social issue that continues to develop within Indonesia’s pluralistic society. This study aims to analyze the regulation of interfaith marriage under Indonesian law, its legal status and validity based on Law Number 1 of 1974 concerning Marriage, as well as its social and legal impacts. The research method used is normative juridical with statutory and literature approaches. The results show that Indonesian marriage law adopts a religious approach, in which the validity of marriage is determined by the respective religious laws of the parties as stipulated in Article 2, paragraph (1) of the Marriage Law. However, the absence of specific regulations regarding interfaith marriage has led to differing interpretations and practices within society. Interfaith marriage also gives rise to legal issues related to marital status, inheritance rights, and civil administration, as well as social impacts such as family conflict and social pressure. From a religious perspective, most religions in Indonesia generally require religious similarity in marriage. Therefore, clearer legal certainty is needed so that the implementation of interfaith marriage can proceed in accordance with the law, religious norms, and the values of tolerance in society.   Keywords: Interfaith Marriage, Marriage Law, Religious Law, Legal Pluralism

Abstract

This study explores the Family Planning (FP) program from social, medical, and Islamic legal perspectives through an analysis of Islamic jurisprudence. FP is defined as a measure to regulate births and the spacing between pregnancies to create healthy, prosperous, and quality families. This discussion covers a basic understanding of FP, the history of the development of the FP program in Indonesia, and various population issues that underlie its implementation. In addition, this study explains the positive impacts of the FP program on health, economic, and social development, such as reducing maternal and infant mortality rates, improving family living standards, and controlling population growth. However, it also discusses the negative impacts of the FP program, both from a health, demographic, and socio-cultural perspective. This study also pays attention to the laws related to FP in Islam, which are based on ijtihadiyah (Islamic jurisprudence) using the maqashid al-shari'ah (Islamic law). Birth control is considered valid as long as its purpose is to protect the health and well-being of the family, while permanent childbearing without a compelling reason is generally not justified. The following discussion covers contraceptive methods and devices from a medical and Islamic perspective, as well as the contribution of the government and religious organizations in educating the public about the FP program. Research findings show that the family planning program has a significant relationship with improving family welfare and community social resilience if implemented in a balanced, humane manner and in accordance with religious principles.   Keywords: Family Planning, Masail Fiqhiyah, Contraception, Islamic Law, Family Welfare, Social Resilience

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the concept of justice for women in monogamous and polygamous marriage systems from the perspective of Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh). Justice is one of the fundamental principles in Islam, especially in household life, which emphasizes the balance of rights and responsibilities between husband and wife. In practice, monogamy and polygamy have different characteristics and challenges in realizing justice for women. This research uses a qualitative method with a library research approach by examining the Qur’an, Hadith, fiqh literature, and other relevant academic sources. The findings indicate that monogamy is considered simpler in implementing justice because attention, financial support, and affection are more focused on one wife. On the other hand, polygamy is permitted in Islam under the main condition that the husband can act fairly, particularly in terms of financial support, housing, treatment, and time allocation. However, the implementation of justice in polygamy often faces challenges, especially in emotional and psychological aspects that are difficult to balance. From the perspective of Islamic jurisprudence, justice for women is not limited to material fulfillment but also includes respect, protection, and emotional and psychological well-being. Therefore, this study emphasizes that justice is a fundamental foundation in building a harmonious household, both in monogamous and polygamous marriage systems.   Keywords: Justice, Women, Polygamy, Monogamy, Islamic Jurisprudence

Abstract

The development of information technology has significantly increased the use of social media, especially among university students. Social media serves not only as a means of communication but also as a space for self-expression, information exchange, and identity formation. However, uncontrolled use of social media has raised various contemporary Islamic legal issues (masail fiqhiyah), including ghibah (backbiting), the spread of hoaxes, cyberbullying, riya (showing off), and violations of privacy. This study aims to identify and analyze various masail fiqhiyah arising from social media use among students and to examine their legal status from the perspective of Islamic jurisprudence. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method through library research. The findings of the study indicate that various activities on social media have the potential to violate Islamic legal principles when they are not accompanied by ethical awareness and adequate legal understanding. Therefore, the implementation of Islamic ethical values, such as tabayyun (verification), guarding one's speech, and moral responsibility, is essential in using social media. This study is expected to contribute to the development of contemporary fiqh studies and serve as a guideline for students in using social media wisely and in accordance with Islamic teachings. Abstract

This article discusses the utilization of pawned goods (rahn) from the perspective of Islamic law. This discussion is motivated by the many pawning practices carried out by the community to meet economic needs, thereby raising legal issues regarding whether or not pawned goods can be utilized by the pledgee (murtahin). The purpose of this article is to understand the definition of pawning in Islamic fiqh, understand the legal basis of pawning, explain the provisions for the utilization of pawned goods according to scholars, and determine its implementation in modern life. The method used is a literature study by examining sources from the Al-Qur'an, hadith, fiqh books, and scientific literature related to the rahn contract. The results show that pawning is a permitted contract in Islam based on the Al-Qur'an, hadith, and scholar consensus (ijma). However, there are differences of opinion regarding the utilization of pawned goods. Some scholars strictly prohibit utilization to avoid elements of usury (riba), some allow it on the condition of permission from the owner (rahin) and not agreed upon in the contract, while others allow it as compensation for goods maintenance costs. In modern practice, Islamic pawnbroking institutions generally do not utilize pawned goods and only charge maintenance fees (ujrah) to maintain compliance with sharia principles. Thus, the utilization of pawned goods must consider the principles of justice, mutual assistance, and avoid usury practices to remain in accordance with the provisions of Islamic law.   Keywords: Fiqh Muamalah, Pawn (Rahn), Islamic Law, Sharia Pawnshops, Utilization of Pawned Goods

Abstract

Madrasahs are Islamic educational institutions that play an important role in the development of education in Indonesia. Their existence is not only related to religious education but has also become an integral part of the national education system that continues to evolve. This study examines the presence of madrasahs within the national education system from a socio-historical perspective on Islamic education, exploring their historical development, the dynamics of national education policies, and the social factors that influence their sustainability and strengthen their position. The research employs a qualitative approach using library research. Data were collected from primary sources, including educational regulations and official government documents, as well as secondary sources such as books, journal articles, and relevant research findings. The data were analyzed using content analysis and historical analysis to identify patterns in the development of madrasahs within the context of national education. The findings reveal that the existence of madrasahs is shaped by three main factors: historical adaptability to social and educational changes, the strengthening of their position through state policy legitimacy, and the support of social capital within Muslim communities. These factors interact in sustaining madrasahs while reinforcing their role as Islamic educational institutions integrated into Indonesia’s national education system. The study demonstrates that madrasahs have not only survived various social and political transformations but have also continuously adapted to societal needs and educational policy developments.   Keywords: Madrasah, Islamic Education, National Education System, Social History, Educational Policy

Abstract

Social life in Indonesia is still frequently overshadowed by intra- and inter-religious tensions triggered by blasphemy issues, legal disparities, and political contestation. Educational institutions play a crucial role in cultivating inclusivity to counter the rising trend of youth intolerance. This study aims to analyze in depth the implementation of Social Justice Education (SJE) and its impact on fostering inclusive perspectives among students at SMK Negeri 3 Purwokerto. Adopting a qualitative approach with a descriptive-critical case study design, data were gathered through in-depth interviews, spatial observation, and documentation using purposive sampling. The informants were categorized into the structural axis (Vice Principal of Curriculum) and the agency axis (majority Muslim and minority Catholic students of 11th-grade Hospitality 1). Data validity was ensured through source triangulation. The findings demonstrate that the school bureaucracy successfully enforces SJE principles equitably through spatial sociology, such as repurposing the meeting room into a religious classroom for minority students during morning religious literacy hours. Viewed through Pierre Bourdieu’s sociological lens, this regulation operates as a field that shapes an inclusive habitus, allowing primordial boundaries to dissolve organically within students' daily social practices—such as interfaith group work, mutual respect during prayer times, and the reinforcement of social capital (trust). Although social awkwardness initially emerged due to demographic imbalances, the non-discriminatory school climate and the exemplary behavior of teachers successfully converted it into active tolerance. This study concludes that religious harmony in schools stems from a cohesive dialectic between equitable structural policies and the readiness of the agency to empathize.   Keywords: Sociology of Educational Institutions, Religious Tolerance, Social Practice, Social Justice Education, Habitus

Abstract

The increasing involvement of women in the workforce and various strategic leadership positions is a growing phenomenon in modern society. This reality has given rise to various studies on the role of women as career women and leaders from an Islamic perspective. This situation arises from differences in interpretation between classical and contemporary Islamic jurisprudence regarding women's leadership. Classical scholars generally place certain limitations on women's leadership, while contemporary thinkers tend to emphasize aspects of competence, usefulness, and social conditions as the basis for assessing a person's suitability for leadership. This study aims to analyze the concept of career women, the Islamic perspective on women's professional activities, and women's leadership roles within the family and community. The method used is library research with a descriptive-analytical approach through a review of various Islamic sources and relevant academic literature. The results show that Islam, in principle, provides opportunities for women to participate in the workplace and public life as long as they adhere to sharia values and fulfill their responsibilities within the family. Furthermore, the understanding of women's leadership is evolving; in the contemporary context, leadership legitimacy is determined more by capacity, integrity, trustworthiness, and social contributions than by gender. Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of the utilization of learning video platforms and students' learning motivation on the learning outcomes of eighth-grade students at SMP Ma’arif NU Karanggedang. This research employed a quantitative correlational approach involving 40 students as the research sample. Data were collected using a four-point Likert scale questionnaire. The data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, reliability testing, normality testing, and multiple linear regression analysis using Jamovi software. The findings indicate that the utilization of learning video platforms and students' learning motivation have a positive and significant effect on the learning outcomes of eighth-grade students. This is evidenced by a significance value of 0.001 (< 0.05) and a regression coefficient of 0.936. Furthermore, the coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.593 indicates that the utilization of learning video platforms and learning motivation account for 59.3% of the variance in students' Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning outcomes, while the remaining 40.7% is explained by other factors beyond the scope of this study. Therefore, the effective utilization of learning video platforms, accompanied by strong learning motivation, can contribute to improving students' learning outcomes in Islamic Religious Education when appropriately integrated into the teaching and learning process.   Keywords: Learning Video Platforms; Learning Motivation; Learning Outcomes; Junior High School
