Abstract

This research seeks to depict and examine the principal's contribution to achieving student service satisfaction at SMP Negeri 9 Palembang. The study adopts a descriptive qualitative approach, collecting data through semi-structured interviews, direct field observation, and document analysis. Informants included the school principal, teaching staff, administrative personnel, and students. Data processing employed the Miles and Huberman model, encompassing data reduction, presentation, and verification. Findings reveal that the principal of SMP Negeri 9 Palembang has implemented all seven EMASLIM functions comprehensively and in an integrated manner: as educator, manager, administrator, supervisor, leader, innovator, and motivator. As an educator, the principal consistently conducts professional teacher development via internal training and direct classroom visits. As a manager, school resources are handled with careful planning involving all school stakeholders. As administrator, the principal ensures orderly, transparent, technology-enabled administrative management. As a supervisor, academic supervision is carried out systematically with constructive feedback. As a leader, a service excellence culture is cultivated through exemplary conduct. As an innovator, creative, digitally-based learning approaches are developed. As a motivator, genuine appreciation and personal attention are consistently extended to all school members. The implementation of these seven functions demonstrably contributes to student service satisfaction, encompassing all five SERVQUAL dimensions: tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy. Professional, collaborative, innovative, and sustained school leadership constitutes the primary driver of lasting student service satisfaction.   Keywords: School Principal, EMASLIM, Student Service Satisfaction, SERVQUAL, Education Quality

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the social transformation of Arab society during the time of Prophet Muhammad SAW from the perspective of Islamic Cultural History. This research uses a qualitative method with a library research approach by examining relevant literature. The findings show that pre-Islamic Arab society was dominated by a tribal-based social system with high levels of social inequality. Social transformation began in the Meccan period through the message of monotheism, which changed the value system of society, and continued in the Medinan period through the establishment of an organized society based on brotherhood, justice, and equality. This transformation not only affected social and political aspects but also became the foundation for the development of Islamic civilization. Thus, the social transformation during the time of Prophet Muhammad SAW demonstrates Islam’s role as a multidimensional force of social change.   Keywords: Social Transformation, Prophet Muhammad SAW, Arab Society, Islamic Cultural History

Abstract

This study aims to describe public relations strategies for promoting school programs through digital media to increase interest among new students at SMP Negeri 9 Palembang. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach. Research subjects were selected using purposive sampling, including the principal, the vice principal for public relations, teachers, students, and parents. Data collection was conducted through observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. Data analysis utilized the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model, which includes data collection, data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Data validity was tested through triangulation of sources and techniques. The research results indicate that the public relations strategies of SMP Negeri 9 Palembang in digital promotion encompass four aspects of the marketing mix: (1) marketing the school’s flagship programs—such as extracurricular activities and student achievements—through visual content on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube; (2) transparently communicating information about free education via social media as an attraction for the public; (3) optimizing the accessibility of school information via the website, social media, and WhatsApp; and (4) planned and consistent digital promotional activities with a posting frequency of three to four times per week. These strategies have proven effective in increasing interest and the number of new student applicants at SMP Negeri 9 Palembang.   Keywords: Public Relations Strategy, Digital Media, School Promotion, Interest of Prospective Students

Abstract

The Islamic intellectual tradition during the Abbasid Dynasty constituted one of the most significant foundations for the development of Islamic civilization and the advancement of global knowledge. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of the Islamic intellectual tradition during the Abbasid period, the factors that supported its development, and its relevance to the advancement of contemporary Islamic education. This research employs a library research method with a descriptive qualitative approach through the analysis of various relevant scholarly sources. The findings reveal that the Abbasid intellectual tradition was characterized by strong state support for the advancement of knowledge, openness to diverse global intellectual traditions, the development of educational institutions and centers of learning such as Bayt al-Hikmah, the emergence of a robust academic culture, and the integration of knowledge with ethical and moral values (adab). The growth of this intellectual tradition was supported by political stability, economic prosperity, translation movements of foreign works, and the cosmopolitan nature of society. The Abbasid intellectual tradition remains highly relevant to contemporary Islamic education, particularly in addressing the dichotomy between religious and secular sciences, enhancing literacy and research culture, strengthening academic integrity, and promoting education oriented toward both character formation and scientific mastery. Therefore, the values cultivated during the Abbasid era can serve as a foundation for developing an integrative, innovative, and adaptive Islamic educational system that responds to technological advancements while maintaining Islamic principles.   Keywords: Islamic Intellectual Tradition, Abbasid Dynasty, Contemporary Islamic Education

Abstract

An adaptive and peaceful socio-cultural approach characterizes the Islamization process in the Malay-Indonesian Archipelago. Among various historical theories, the Gujarat Theory offers a robust sociological explanation regarding the moderate character of early Islam in coastal regions. This study aims to analyze the cultural and religious assimilation and trace the remaining manifestations of the Gujarat Theory in shaping comparative religious traditions across the maritime coasts of Indonesia and Malaysia. The research method employed is a literature study (library research) with a qualitative-comparative approach. Data analysis was conducted using content analysis and source triangulation of historical literature. The study reveals three main findings. First, the spread of Islam was driven by the flexible Sufi practices of Gujarati merchants, which made it easily accepted by local communities. Second, coastal areas acted as cosmopolitan gateways that transmitted Islamic values through trade and marriage, establishing the Sultanates of Samudera Pasai and Malacca. Third, this assimilation is materially evidenced by the identical architecture of ancient gravestones from Cambay found in Aceh and Malaysia, and non-materially by the daily religious rituals of coastal communities. This study concludes that coastal Islam in Indonesia and Malaysia shares a common, inclusive, and moderate spiritual and cultural genealogical root.   Keywords: Coastal Communities, Cultural Assimilation, Gujarat Theory, Indonesia-Malaysia, Maritime Sufism

Abstract

This abstract examines the negotiation between the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and the preservation of the scholarly authority of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). Using a qualitative approach to the case study of the Darussalam Modern Islamic Boarding School in Purwokerto, this study reveals that AI integration is not adopted raw, but rather negotiated through strict institutional and methodological constraints. The research findings indicate three main things: (1) At the classroom infrastructure level, the use of AI is deliberately hampered by the pesantren's domestic regulations which strictly prohibit students from bringing smartphones to maintain learning focus; (2) Epistemologically, AI has been criticized for only providing instant (cognitive) translation results and failing to teach the “procedural thinking process” in the tradition of interpreting books in a pegon (nahwu-sharaf syntax) manner. (3) Negotiations occur at the educational actor level, where teachers position AI outside the classroom purely as a khadim (technical servant) for initial reference guides that must be re-verified against authoritative books. This article contributes to the sociology of Islamic education by enriching the discussion on the cultural defense strategies of traditional religious institutions in stemming the flow of modern technological instantiation.   Keywords: Artificial Intelligence, Kiai Authority, Modern Islamic Boarding Schools, Yellow Books, Techno-Spiritual Negotiation
