Abstract

This study explores the strategic management practices of the principal of Madrasah Aliyah Darul Falah Bandar Lampung in enhancing teacher performance. In the context of increasing educational demands, school leadership plays a pivotal role in improving teaching quality through planned, measurable strategies. The research aims to identify the principal’s strategic steps, evaluate their effectiveness, and understand their impact on teachers' pedagogical competence, discipline, and digital literacy. Using a qualitative approach with descriptive methods, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The principal’s strategy was implemented through four key stages: SWOT-based internal-external analysis, strategic vision formulation, program implementation (training, supervision, teacher collaboration), and continuous evaluation with feedback integration. The findings indicate significant improvement in teacher performance, particularly in lesson preparation, attendance, and technology integration. These outcomes suggest that strategic planning based on participatory analysis and reflective evaluation can create a collaborative, adaptive, and forward-looking school culture. The study concludes that the role of a visionary and responsive principal is crucial in shaping a high-performing educational institution. These findings provide a practical model that can be adopted by other Islamic schools to improve teacher performance. Future studies could explore the quantitative impact of such strategies on student outcomes or replicate the model across different educational levels.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) have long played a significant role in producing generations of Qur’an memorizers (huffaz). However, the effectiveness of tahfidz programs greatly depends on how well these are managed. This study aims to analyze the management of tahfidz programs in pesantren based on a comprehensive literature review. The research focuses on three core areas: planning, implementation, and evaluation, which are essential pillars in managing religious education programs. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach with content analysis of recent studies (within the last 10 years), the findings reveal that effective planning includes personalized curriculum design and strategic scheduling. Implementation requires competent teachers, varied memorization methods (such as talaqqi, muroja’ah, and digital tools), and a conducive learning environment. Evaluation is most effective when supported by structured feedback systems, parent involvement, and the integration of technology, including AI-based assessment tools. The study concludes that the integration of traditional religious values with modern management practices and digital innovations significantly enhances the success of tahfidz programs. It also recommends a personalized, data-driven management model to increase memorization retention and support the long-term sustainability of tahfidz education. These findings offer strategic insights for pesantren leaders, Islamic educators, and policy makers to develop more adaptive and effective tahfidz systems.

Abstract

The quality of madrasah education is a key indicator in evaluating the success of Islamic educational institutions. However, the quality of education in many madrasahs remains uneven and faces numerous challenges, both managerial and related to human resources. This study aims to identify and analyze the strategies employed by madrasah principals to improve educational quality using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. The review focuses on principal programs, implementation strategies, and their implications for educational quality. This research analyzed 20 peer-reviewed articles published within the last ten years. The research procedure followed six main stages: formulating research questions, searching for literature, selecting relevant studies, analyzing and interpreting the data, drafting the article, and disseminating the findings. The results show that madrasah principals play a central role in designing and implementing quality improvement programs, including teacher training, promoting religious culture, enhancing literacy, and developing research-based programs. Participatory and transformative leadership strategies have proven effective in improving teacher professionalism, discipline, and student achievements in both academic and non-academic areas. These strategies directly impact the quality of the learning process and outcomes. This study offers both theoretical and practical contributions to the development of Islamic educational leadership and serves as a basis for policymaking related to principal training. In the future, principal strategies are expected to become more adaptive to technological developments and the evolving needs of students.

Abstract

One form of religious education that has received special attention in recent years is the tahfidz program, which focuses on memorizing the Qur’an. At Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri (MIN) 1 Kendal, the tahfidz program has been implemented as a flagship initiative integrated into the broader educational curriculum. This program aims not only to enhance students’ memorization of the Qur’an but also to shape students into religious individuals with strong character. This study used a qualitative method to explore the promotional strategies of the tahfidz program at MIN 1 Kendal and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors. The findings revealed that the promotional strategies align with the four elements of the promotion mix: advertising, sales promotion, personal selling, and public relations. Advertising was carried out through social media such as Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and the school’s website, while sales promotion included student performances at events like akhirussanah and PKP. Personal selling involved communication through teachers and the school’s media team (GEMI), who managed and shared content both online and directly. Meanwhile, public relations included partnerships with external institutions such as FUSPAQ and PPTQ Ash-Shiddiqie to support both regular and advanced tahfidz programs. Supporting factors included the use of digital platforms, parental enthusiasm, strong school leadership, and qualified teachers. However, challenges remain in terms of human resource limitations, time constraints, and varied student abilities in memorization.

Abstract

The role of community participation in Islamic educational institutions, particularly Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI), is increasingly recognized as essential for improving institutional quality and student outcomes. This study investigates the strategies implemented by MI Takhasus Darul Ulum Ngaliyan Semarang to enhance the quality of community involvement in school management. The aim is to explore how collaborative practices between the school and its surrounding community contribute to educational development. This qualitative research employs a case study approach supported by data from observations, interviews, and document analysis. The findings reveal that the madrasah has adopted inclusive strategies such as transparent communication, involvement in decision-making, utilization of local human resources, and open participation in both managerial and instructional activities. Community participation is manifested in both physical forms (e.g., infrastructure support, event committees) and non-physical forms (e.g., teaching, training, donations). These collaborative efforts have contributed to increased public trust, a 27% rise in student enrollment over two years, improved learning environments, and a strong sense of ownership among stakeholders. The study concludes that effective community engagement, when supported by visionary leadership and contextualized strategies, serves as a foundational pillar in building a resilient and sustainable educational ecosystem in Islamic schools. The model presented by MI Takhasus Darul Ulum offers practical insights for other Islamic educational institutions seeking to strengthen community-based governance

Abstract

The full day school program has emerged as an educational model expected to systematically and structurally foster students’ religious character. This study aims to analyze the management of the full day school program in shaping the religious character of students at MTs Negeri 2 Brebes. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive model. The findings reveal that the management includes planning religious activities such as daily Qur’anic recitation (tadarus), dhuha and dhuhur congregational prayers, the Qur’an reading and writing (BTQ) program, istighosah, and the 5S habituation program (smile, greet, salute, polite, courteous). These activities are consistently scheduled and integrated into students’ daily routines. Evaluations are conducted through religious attendance logs, tadarus assessments, and direct supervision by teachers and homeroom advisors. The results indicate that the full day school program significantly contributes to instilling religious values through worship practices and spiritual character development. The conclusion of this study is that well-designed and consistently implemented full day school management serves as an effective strategy in developing students’ religious character, as reflected in their worship behavior, ethical conduct, and discipline both in school and in the community.

Abstract

This study investigates the strategic management of professional development for Islamic Religious Education (IRE) teachers at SMA Bustanul Ulum Anak Tuha, focusing on enhancing their pedagogical quality and character-building roles. In the broader context of educational reform and professional standards, the research aims to explore how schools empower IRE teachers to become professional educators who also act as spiritual and moral role models. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive approach and field research method, the study involved observations, interviews, and documentation to collect in-depth data. The findings reveal several strategies: effective classroom management, integration of instructional media, utilization of school facilities, active implementation of the Guru Penggerak (Teacher Mobilizer) program, creative adaptation to the Merdeka Curriculum, and a strong emphasis on character education. Teachers demonstrated high levels of commitment to student-centered learning, technological integration, and value-based instruction, despite facing challenges such as limited instructional time and diverse student backgrounds. The study concludes that professional development of IRE teachers involves not only pedagogical competence but also leadership, creativity, and resilience. These strategies contribute significantly to student motivation, religious character, and learning outcomes. The research highlights the importance of continuous professional support and school leadership in sustaining teacher innovation and effectiveness in religious education.

Abstract

Religious leadership in Islamic educational institutions plays a strategic role in shaping a humanistic and ethical organizational culture. Amid growing moral challenges and value crises in education, there is a pressing need for leadership that is not only managerial but also deeply rooted in spiritual values. This study aims to analyze the role of religious leadership in developing an organizational culture that emphasizes human dignity and strengthens ethical values in educational governance. Using a literature review approach, this article examines recent studies related to religious leadership, organizational culture, and Islamic educational ethics. The findings reveal that the core characteristics of religious leaders include integrity, exemplary conduct, and strong adherence to Islamic teachings, which are reflected in their daily behavior and institutional policies. The organizational culture fostered by such leadership tends to be inclusive, participatory, and anchored in values such as rahmah (compassion), justice, and trustworthiness. Moreover, ethical values are not merely formal norms but are internalized within the collective behavior of school communities. The study concludes that religious leadership serves as a foundational pillar in creating a sustainable and dignified Islamic education ecosystem. These findings are expected to contribute to the development of Islamic leadership models that are relevant to contemporary educational management needs.

Abstract

The increasing demand for early-age Qur’anic memorization programs in Indonesia has led to the emergence of child-focused tahfidz institutions, yet systematic studies on curriculum management in such contexts remain limited. This study aims to explore the curriculum management practices of Tahfidzul Qur’an in Pondok Pesantren Tahfidzul Qur’an Anak (PTYQA) Kudus, a prominent pesantren that has produced hundreds of child huffadh through a structured six-year program. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participatory observation, and institutional document analysis. The findings reveal that curriculum planning at PTYQA integrates traditional Islamic educational values with professional management strategies, especially through the application of the Yanbu’a method. Curriculum implementation emphasizes individualized instruction based on initial student reading abilities and a highly disciplined learning schedule, while evaluation involves regular formative assessments and internal supervision. However, summative evaluation of alumni outcomes remains limited. The study concludes that PTYQA has established a hybrid curriculum management model that is pedagogically sound, spiritually grounded, and contextually adaptive to the developmental needs of children. These findings contribute a new perspective to Islamic education literature by highlighting the managerial and pedagogical dimensions of tahfidz education for children, suggesting future research on outcome-based curriculum models and professional development for tahfidz teachers.

Abstract

The Shohbah approach is an educational method rooted in the prophetic tradition of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), emphasizing emotional closeness, exemplary conduct, and the internalization of noble values. Within the pesantren (Islamic boarding school) context, this approach is considered effective in shaping students who are intellectually competent and morally and spiritually strong. This study aims to explore the character development management of students through the Shohbah approach at Pondok Pesantren Walisongo Sukajadi, Central Lampung. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design, using participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation techniques. The findings reveal that character development through Shohbah includes deliberation forums (musyawarah), spiritual development, and involvement in social activities, all of which contribute to strengthening the students’ character. The impact is evident in the increased discipline, responsibility, social empathy, and both academic and interpersonal competencies of the students. The success of this approach is influenced by several factors, including the exemplary leadership of the pesantren caregivers, a supportive learning environment, and collaboration between the pesantren and students' families. The study concludes that the Shohbah approach is a relevant and contextual educational strategy for fostering the character of the younger generation in modern times and holds significant potential for application in various educational settings, both religious and general
