Abstract

The advancement of digital technology has fundamentally transformed the tourism industry, shifting it from a linear promotional model to an interactive, participatory, and platform-based communication ecosystem. This article aims to narratively examine the development of theories and concepts in the sociology of tourism communication, with particular emphasis on the dynamics of meaning construction, social interaction, and power relations within digital contexts. This study employs a narrative literature review approach by analyzing recent scholarly works indexed in the Scopus database within the 2019–2024 period. The findings reveal that the sociology of tourism communication has evolved across five major clusters: the construction of meaning and destination representation, symbolic interaction in tourism experiences, digitalization and communication platforms, power relations and hegemony, as well as intercultural communication and identity. Furthermore, the study identifies a paradigm shift from functionalist approaches toward constructivist and critical perspectives, in line with the increasing role of digital technology in shaping the social reality of tourism. Nevertheless, gaps remain in the integration of classical communication sociology theories with contemporary digital phenomena, as well as in the limited attention given to Global South contexts. This article contributes by providing a comprehensive theoretical synthesis while proposing future research agendas in the field of tourism communication sociology.

Abstract

Deviant behavior among elementary school students remains a critical issue in basic education because it can disrupt the learning process and hinder character formation and children's psychosocial well-being. At this stage, students are increasingly exposed to broader environmental influences, including peers, digital media, and family dynamics, which have the potential to trigger behaviors such as dishonesty, bullying, and rule-breaking. This community service activity aims to increase students' understanding of the forms, causes, and impacts of deviant behavior, while equipping them with practical strategies to prevent and address it. Furthermore, this activity also aims to encourage students' role as agents of positive change and strengthen collaboration between students, teachers, and parents in strengthening character education. The activity was held on August 29, 2025, at Kartika Jaya Elementary School XXI-1, Manado City, using an educational-participatory approach through interactive lectures, case study-based group discussions, simulations and role-playing, and reflection sessions. Evaluation was carried out through direct observation and responsive feedback from participants. The results of the activity showed an increase in students' understanding of deviant behavior and its causal factors, as well as an increase in their ability to implement prevention strategies, such as rejecting negative influences, reporting inappropriate behavior, and building positive social interactions. Students also demonstrated a commitment to implementing positive behavior in their daily lives, supported by active participation and positive responses from both students and teachers. It was concluded that a participatory and contextual educational approach was effective in raising awareness and shaping positive attitudes in elementary school students. Therefore, ongoing mentoring, strengthening the role of parents, and integrating character education into the school curriculum are recommended to ensure the sustainability of the activity's impact.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of mortality worldwide and represent a major challenge to public health development, including in Indonesia. The high prevalence of NCDs such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and cardiovascular diseases is closely associated with low levels of public awareness and unhealthy lifestyle behaviors. Therefore, promotional efforts through health education are essential strategies to enhance community knowledge and awareness regarding NCD prevention. This community service activity aims to improve public knowledge of non-communicable diseases and their prevention through health education interventions. The implementation method employed an educational approach through health counseling , accompanied by pre-test and post-test assessments to measure participants' knowledge before and after the intervention. The materials delivered included the definition of NCDs, risk factors, health impacts, and preventive measures through clean and healthy lifestyle behaviors . The educational sessions were conducted interactively using lectures, discussions, and question-and-answer sessions. The results showed that prior to the intervention, the majority of participants (93.3%) already had a good level of knowledge. After the health education intervention, this increased to 100% of participants achieving a good knowledge category. Additionally, participants demonstrate high enthusiasm during the activity, as reflected in their active participation in discussions and their ability to respond to questions related to the materials presented. In conclusion, health education counseling proved to be effective in improving community knowledge regarding non-communicable diseases. This improvement in knowledge is expected to serve as a foundation for promoting sustainable healthy behavior changes. However, follow-up efforts such as continuous mentoring and evaluation are necessary to ensure the practical implementation of knowledge in daily life in order to reduce the incidence of NCDs in the community.

Abstract

Health data management at the village level in Tomohon City faces significant challenges, including limited human resource capacity, non-integrated systems, and manual data collection that hinders the planning of priority health programs. This Community Service Program (PKM) aims to address these issues by establishing an information system and building the capacity of village officials, with the primary outcome being the creation of a sustainable Village Health Information System (SIK ELHAN). Methods: The study employed a participatory Training Management Cycle approach, consisting of four stages: (1) Training Needs Assessment to identify partner requirements; (2) Training Design to develop training programs and system architecture; (3) Training Delivery involving hands-on training, tutorials, and direct mentoring; and (4) Training Evaluation using Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure effectiveness and impact. This methodology actively engaged partners throughout all stages. Results: The program successfully developed and implemented SIK ELHAN, a web-based system enabling structured and real-time recording and reporting of community health data. Thirty village officials and healthcare workers were trained, with 85% of participants demonstrating independent system operation capability. Evaluation results showed a 70% increase in participant understanding based on pre-test and post-test comparisons. The Village Government demonstrated strong commitment to sustainability by appointing dedicated administrators for SIK ELHAN management, supported by a 90% partner satisfaction rate. The participatory Training Management Cycle approach proved effective not only in providing the technical solution of SIK ELHAN but also in empowering partners through capacity building. This program successfully established a robust foundation for digital transformation of health data management at the village level, which is expected to support more effective data-driven health program planning and monitoring in Tomohon City.

Abstract

A business plan is a strategic document that helps business founders translate business ideas into operational, marketing, funding, and performance control directions. This article aims to analyze business plan development strategies for starting a new business through a literature review. The study results indicate that an effective business plan must be developed in stages, starting with problem and market validation, competitor analysis, selecting an appropriate plan format, developing a marketing strategy and revenue model, creating realistic financial projections, and adjusting to legal structures and funding needs. The literature also shows that business plans tend to have a positive impact on new venture development, but the benefits are strongest when planning is combined with market learning and ongoing revision, rather than treated as a rigid document (Delmar & Shane, 2003; Brinckmann, Grichnik, & Kapsa, 2010). Thus, a good business plan serves not only as an administrative requirement, but as a living, adaptive , and data -driven decision-making tool.

Abstract

The research method used is descriptive qualitative research. This method is used to describe the implementation of coordination in the Plenary Meeting of Members of the Lampung Provincial People's Representative Council (DPRD). All data were obtained directly from informants in the field using interviews and document studies. The results of the study indicate that, in the dimensions of (a) Inter-Institutional Synchronization, synchronization between institutions still faces serious challenges, particularly related to the lack of agenda integration between the DPRD and the executive branch. (b) Information Management, information management has not been optimally coordinated. (c) Collaboration between Implementers: A collaborative work culture has not yet been established. Inhibiting aspects include: (a) Synchronization between Institutions: Differences in political and institutional interests between the Regional People's Representative Council and its executive counterparts. (b) Information Management: Information delivered late or in a partial manner, leaving DPRD members unprepared for meetings. (c) Collaboration between Implementers: A sectoral work culture, where each work unit (commission, faction, secretariat) focuses more on its individual tasks than on shared goals.
