Abstract

This study aimed to isolation and characterization the flavonoid compounds in plants ant nest (M. tuberose) from Village District Majannang Parigi, Gowa regency in South Sulawesi. This research was conducted through several phases, namely: sample preparation, isolation and characterization. Isolation starting from extraction, followed by fractionation and purification, among others, by recrystallization, then performed characterization, which among others, performed with test reagent 1% AlCl3 in ethanol, FeCl3 and with benedict, thin layer chromatography and melting point test. Results of research conducted on the basis of several characterization, obtained pure compounds form crystals amount of 220 mg of yellowish white, needle-shaped, with melting point 116-117 º C, Rf with eluen BAA by 71, reacted positively to the reagent 1% AlCl3 in ethanol which is marked yellow spots occur and with reagent benedict give a light blue under UV light, reasonably suspected that the compound obtained is a type of flavone of flavonoid compounds.

Abstract

Bittermelon (Momordica charantia L.) is a bioactivity plant that used as a medicine traditional. The purpose of this research is to isolate the bioactivity secondary metabolites of n-hexane extract from the bittermelon leaves and bioassay toward larval shrimp A. salina. Isolation of the secondary metabolites including extraction, fractionation, purification, and identification. Bioassay was conducted to the extract and to mixed fractions (fraction A – G) the results of column chromatography. The results of research showed that the extracts and fractions from bittermelon leaves was toxic to A. salina. The LC50 from extracts bittermelon leaves was 91, 84 ppm. The LC50 for the fractions A and B (steroid) were 38,26 ppm and  85,90 ppm, the fractions C – G (terpenoid) were 94,45 ppm; 79,56 ppm; 92,53 ppm; 70,41 ppm; and 92,69 ppm, the most toxic fractions was fraction of A. From the C-fraction as a green coulor was obtained a crystal and needle-shaped. After recystalization with n-hexane and ethylacetat was obtained a pure compound that positive to terpenoids with Liebermann-Burchard reagents.

Abstract

Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT) is defined as an early phase of Diabetic Type-2 process. IGT shows an occurance of early phase of Diabetic and asymptomatic. The prevalence is increased in accordance to poor or unhealthy lifestyle such as over consuming of carbohydrate and lack of physical excercises. The aim of the study was to analyze the correlation between lifestyle and individual with obesity, obesity and pre-diabetic, and lifestyle with pre-diabetic.The study was conducted at the Kassi-Kassi Public Health Center in Makassar from May to July 2009. The study was a case control study. The number of samples was 54 people selected by purposive sampling. The sampling were divided into 27 pre-diabetic individuals and 27 individuals with normal blood glucose. The data were collected through structured interview and questionnaire. The measurement of height, weight, waist circumference, blood pressure, and blood samples was done twice after fasting 12 hours for fasting blood glucose and oral glucose tolerance test. The data were analyzed by using univariate, bivariate with chi square, and independet t-tes and Mann-Whitney test. The result of the study indicate that lifestyle has a role in the incident of pre-diabetic in which p = 0,021.Lifestyle has been proved affecting pre-diabetic event trought obesity. This research shows a correlation between lifestyle and obesity, and also connection between obesity and pre-diabetic incident.

Abstract

This research is a queasy experiment that aim is to know the influence of using time token learning model by using index cards as a media to the result of student biology learning at XI grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Cina. The subjects of this research are the students at XI IPA1 as the experiment class and the students at XI IPA2 as control class, with the total number of each class are 30 students for experiment class and 32 students for control class. The experiment has done at both classes for 8 hours meeting (3 times for giving materials and 1 time for evaluation). The data collection has done to evaluate learning result by using written test. The collected data were analyzed by using descriptive statistic analysis and inferential analysis. The research result shows (a) from descriptive analysis result, the mean score experiment class result is 77,77 while the control class mean is 63,64. (b) From inferential analysis by using correctness t0,05 shows ttest =5, 24 and ttable = 2,00 so it describe that ttest is higher than ttable. By this experiment result, the researcher concludes that there is an improvement in student’ biology learning result by using time token learning model which uses index card as a media at IX class of SMA Negeri 1 Cina, because experiment class learning result is higher than control class learning result.

Abstract

This  was  a  quasy experiment involving control group and experiment  one  in which the subject was the students of class XI of  SMA Negeri 3 Makassar in the school year of 2008/2009. The aim of the research were  to  knowledge  the  effect  of  the  learning  method  in  which  the  students  were  given  assignments  and recitation and to compare the study results of the students who were given the assignment and recitation with those who were not. It was done by using  Posttest-Only Control Design.  The number of the subject was 81 which  was  chosen  by  cluster  random  sampling  from  365  students.  It  was  then  divided  into  two  groups: experiment group (41 subjects) and control group (40 subjects). The study results of the students in Biology Subject were analyzed by using descriptive statistic and inferensial one. It was shown that  the mean of the study results of the students who were given assignment and recitation was higher than of those who were not (t  2,846 > 0,716  with α = 0,05).  In conclusion, taking assignment and recitation in the learning process has a positive influence significantly to the study results of the students.

Abstract

This research is correlation research to see the relationship between the average of students in national examination with GPA at three former semesters of the students of Biology Department, Science Faculty, State University of Makassar. The population was all students biology department in academic year 2008/2009 which consists of 147. The samples were taken purposively from 2008/2009 which consists of 82. The data were used secondary data average national examination student of biology department in academic year 2008/2009 and GPA at  three former semester of the student of Biology Department in academic year 2008/2009. The data were analyzed quantitatively with percentages and inferential analysis using product moment correlation test. Abstract

This experimental study aimed to analyze the toxicity of the Cassia alata L. leaves extract in Pomacea canaliculata L with the concentration of the extract as independent variable and the mortality of Pomacea as the dependent one. There were two steps in this study: introductory test and main test. Both of them were done to examine LC50 (lethal concentrate) and LT50 (lethal time) using the number of mortality and its velocity during 48 hour observation. Based on the introductory study, we chose concentrate of 2,5 %; 3%; 3,5%; 4%; and 4;5% of the leaves extract for the treatment groups. Control group were not given any extract. Every group of treatment consisted of 50 Pomacea and each treatment was done 5 times so that there were 1500 Pomacea used in this study. Probit analysis was used for this study result. I then be sown that Cassia alata L. leaves extract could cause mortality of Pomacea canaliculata L which occured from 4 hour after the start of the study. The LC50 was 4,290% of leaves extract after 16 hours after the application with regression  slope Y = 2,456 + 4,561X, and the LT50 was 29,834% with Y = 0,047 + 1,976X.

Abstract

analysis of heavy metals such as copper (Cu) in Sardinella gibbosa has been which marketed in Makassar. Fish samples were collected from TPI Lelong and TPI Rajawali. Cu levels were determined by atonomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS). The analyses showed estimated of 0.0189 mg/kg (TPI Lelong) and 0.0144 mg/kg (TPI Rajawali) levels of Cu in fish. It was then concluded that the levels of Cu were still below threshold.

Abstract

This research aim to to know nicotine rate which implied in processed tongka tobacco simply in District Bantaeng, because the tobacco don't have lable. This Research benefit to give information at society; what nicotine rate in tongka tobacco within measure to be consumed or not. Nicotine have toksis; besides can addictive or depended also can generate is cancercous. Determining rate nicotine can do it with Titration Asidimetri method. Sampel research consist tobacco which circulate in four market in District Bantaeng. Pursuant to result of research, tongka tobacco nicotine rate which circulate in Lambocca' Market 1,92%, Induk market 1,79%, Dampang market 1,67% and Banyorang market 1,50%. The Nicotine rate altogether smaller than enabled by Industrial Standard of Indonesia that is 2%.

Abstract

This research purpose to know the impact of long fermentation with yeast to suweg tuber to know the value of dissolve glucose. The dissolve glucose between times of fermentation about 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours. This research used free variable which was long fermentation and bound variable is glucose value of flour in suweg tuber fermentated. To know the impact of this research, used the "RAL" method. Certainly of glucose value do with Anthrone method used spectrophotometer. The result of research pointed long impact fermentation in glucose value of suweg tuber fermentated. Value of dissolve glucose in suweg tuber fermentated has times of fermentation about 24 hours, 57,77 ppm: 48 hours 76,60 ppm and 72 hours 98,19. At last it should conslused that as long as fermentation (72 hours) make highest glucose (98,19 ppm
