Abstract

Background: Neuropathy and peripheral vascular disease are two major factors that lead to diabetic wounds. Additionally, diabetic wound healing process takes a long time. Collagen is one indicator to assess wound healing. Aim: This study aimed to compare the wound healing process DM and non-DM In Wistar with acute wounds modeling that uses the density collagen as indicators. Methods: This study used a randomized design Post Test Control Group who uses Wistar as research objects. Wistar rats were divided into 2 groups: Wistar DM and Non-DM groups. The total sample were 30 individuals that consisted of 15 rats each group. Wistar DM was induced by injection of Streptozotocin (STZ) intraperitoneal single dose of 40-50 mg / kg. The wound were created by using punch biopsy of each group. The wound were followed up for 14 days. Data analysis was done using the Kolmogorov - Smirnov test with a confidence level of 95%. All data were analyzed by SPSS version 21.0 software (SPSS, Inc. Chicago, IL). Results: The density of collagen in DM group (20%) was lower than in non DM group (40%). However there were no significant difference in collagen density in both groups (p=0,375). Nevertheless, the percentage of collagen density is higher in non DM group compared with DM group (20.0%). This shows the tendency of the wound healing process in the group of Non - DM is better than DM group. This shows the tendency of the wound healing process in the group of Non - DM is better than DM group. Conclusion : There is a tendency that the wound healing in non –DM group is better than in DM groups. More studies are needed in the future to confirm this findings. Abstract

Background: Brain injury often occurs not only primary brain injury, but often also occur secondary brain injury. Inflammation is a process that occurs immediately after trauma characterized by activation of the mediator substance. TNF-? is a major cytokinee involved in the inflammatory processes that have adverse effects if the serum level are excessive. There needs to be a balance of the inflammatory process in the brain injury so things that harm does not occur. As anti-inflammatory IL- 10 plays an important role in maintaining the balance. The objective of this study is to determine the effect of IL-10 intervention as an anti -inflammatory will decrease the serum level of TNF-? in traumatic brain injury. Material And Method: Experimental Study in the Rattus Wistar rats, post test control group design, male, aged 3-4 months, with body weight (BW) 300-400g, were obtained from the Laboratory Animal Faculty of Medicine, University of Hasanuddin as much as 24 tails, which is the result of breeding. Subjects were divided into four groups, each group of six rats, treated with controlled cortical impact model (Feeney’s weight-drop) of traumatic brain injury. Blood taken with capillary tube in retro-orbita plexus or sinus. This study has approved by ethical clearance for research. Results: Levels of TNF-? group of rats 1 hour post-trauma without administration of recombinant IL-10 (28.58 ± 7.28) pg / mL; was significantly higher (p

Abstract

The research aimed to examine the effect of Zn+Fe supplementation on optimalizing the biomotoric ability. One field intervention research among of 40 of a 12-years old group of football players of Makassar Football School (MFS)-2000 in South Sulawesi Province had been conducted to figure out a possible mechanism specifically examined the discrapancies of the change in the increasing rate of biomotoric ability between the targeted and the placebo group. This study was designed with randomized double blind pretest-posttest. A full of 20 participants in group A (targeted group) was supple-mented by Zn+Fe for 6 months while other 20 in group B counterparts were given with placebo. All data related to biometric ability, nutrient supplementation, hemoglobin level as well as IGF-1 level were recorded before and after intervention. The result showed greater increasing in the level of Hb, IGF-1, biomotoric ability: muscle endurance (sit-up test), and aerobic endurance (bleep test) among the targeted group up  to 2.05%, 32,5%, 19.85% and 47.08% respectively, after supplemented by Zn+Fe for 6 months, compared to that number in the placebo group (0.61%; 15%; 5.11% and 11,66% respectively). Moreover, the result demonstrated a positive correlation between the level of Hb and the increasing of ability to perform sit-up (r= 0.361) as well as aerobic capacity (r= 0.325). Similar result found in correlation between IGF-1 and the increasing rate of ability to perform sit-up (r= 0.385) as well as aerobic capacity (r= 0.392). Conclusions, the increasing level of Hb and IGF-1 improved the increasing rate of, muscle endurance in sit-up test as well as aerobic endurance in bleep test. Therefore, giving Zn+Fe supplementation may improvement biomotoric ability in  12-years old group of football players.   Keywords: biomotoric  ability, Zn + Fe supplementation, nutrition feed, fitness tests

Abstract

Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT) is defined as an early phase of Diabetic Type-2 process. IGT shows an occurance of early phase of Diabetic and asymptomatic. The prevalence is increased in accordance to poor or unhealthy lifestyle such as over consuming of carbohydrate and lack of physical excercises. The aim of the study was to analyze the correlation between lifestyle and individual with obesity, obesity and pre-diabetic, and lifestyle with pre-diabetic.The study was conducted at the Kassi-Kassi Public Health Center in Makassar from May to July 2009. The study was a case control study. The number of samples was 54 people selected by purposive sampling. The sampling were divided into 27 pre-diabetic individuals and 27 individuals with normal blood glucose. The data were collected through structured interview and questionnaire. The measurement of height, weight, waist circumference, blood pressure, and blood samples was done twice after fasting 12 hours for fasting blood glucose and oral glucose tolerance test. The data were analyzed by using univariate, bivariate with chi square, and independet t-tes and Mann-Whitney test. The result of the study indicate that lifestyle has a role in the incident of pre-diabetic in which p = 0,021.Lifestyle has been proved affecting pre-diabetic event trought obesity. This research shows a correlation between lifestyle and obesity, and also connection between obesity and pre-diabetic incident.
