Abstract

Research on risk management in Islamic microfinance remains relatively underdeveloped despite the sector’s growing strategic importance in supporting financial inclusion, poverty alleviation, and Shariah-compliant economic empowerment. This study employs a comprehensive bibliometric analysis to map the intellectual structure, thematic evolution, and global collaboration patterns of research on risk management within Islamic microfinance from 2000 to 2025. Using Scopus-indexed data and Biblioshiny, the analysis examines publication trends, co-citation networks, keyword co-occurrence, thematic mapping, and country collaborations. The findings indicate that the literature is still in an early conceptual phase, dominated by foundational discussions on Islamic finance stability rather than specific risk-related issues at the micro level. Co-citation networks reveal reliance on classic works, while thematic maps show an absence of well-developed motor themes on risk management. Collaboration patterns are concentrated in a few countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, and the United Kingdom, with limited contributions from regions traditionally central to Islamic finance. These results highlight a significant research gap between the increasing complexity of risks faced by Islamic microfinance institutions—such as credit risk, operational risk, and Shariah compliance risk—and the limited academic attention devoted to developing robust, context-specific risk management frameworks. This study provides critical insights that can guide future research agendas, especially on digital risk mitigation, Shariah governance frameworks, comparative risk modeling, and the integration of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence. The findings contribute to strengthening the epistemic foundation of Islamic microfinance and supporting its long-term sustainability in a rapidly evolving financial landscape.

Abstract

Sharia cooperatives in educational institutions represent an important instrument for strengthening economic empowerment, financial literacy, and Islamic ethical values among students. This study aims to analyze the strategic implementation of a sharia cooperative at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 1 Bengkalis by examining managerial preparation, institutional governance, sharia compliance, and operational practices. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this research collected data through interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings reveal that the implementation strategy includes establishing a strong institutional structure, applying sharia-based contracts such as murabahah and mudharabah, enhancing financial literacy programs, and developing member-oriented services. However, challenges remain, including limited human resource competence, low understanding of sharia contracts, and the absence of structured sharia supervision. The study recommends strengthening governance, integrating sharia cooperative education into the school curriculum, expanding digital service innovations, and involving a Sharia Supervisory Board (DPS). The results contribute to the literature on Islamic microfinance within educational settings and offer practical guidance for strengthening school-based sharia cooperatives.

Abstract

This study aims to explore and develop an effective halal literacy strategy for MSMEs in Indonesia, with a focus on increasing the adoption of Islamic financial products. This study also evaluates the success of various implemented halal literacy education and training programs, including their compliance with Islamic legal regulations and national Sharia governance. The research methodology employed a qualitative approach, collecting data through observations and interviews with various MSMEs in Bima City, West Nusa Tenggara. Data analysis was conducted using a SWOT approach. The research findings indicate that a comprehensive halal literacy strategy should include the provision of easy-to-understand educational materials, ongoing training, and awareness-raising through mass media campaigns, supported by strengthening MSMEs' understanding of Islamic legal obligations, halal certification requirements, and Islamic financial regulations. The results of this study emphasize the importance of an integrated approach to improving MSMEs' understanding of Islamic financial products, their legal basis, and the benefits they offer. With increased halal literacy, including Islamic legal literacy, MSMEs can utilize Islamic financial products to support sustainable business growth in accordance with Islamic principles and applicable Islamic financial laws. This study also provides practical recommendations for policymakers, financial institutions, and MSME support organizations to facilitate increased halal literacy, strengthen legal awareness, and expand MSME access to Islamic financial products in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to formulate a strategy for developing Cash Waqf Linked Deposit (CWLD) in Universities in Bengkalis Regency using the Analytic Network Process (ANP) method. Based on the analysis conducted, it was found that the most priority problems are in the Nazhir aspect, especially the lack of socialization, professionalism, and certification of Nazhir. While in the Waqif aspect, the main priority is the low knowledge and awareness of prospective waqifs regarding CWLD products and the low level of trust. The prioritized solution to overcome these problems also focuses on strengthening the role of Nazhir through routine socialization, training, education, and legal assistance and supervision. On the other hand, financial literacy and waqf to Waqif are the main solutions on the community side. The most priority development strategy in the university environment is to strengthen collaboration between institutions, Nazhir training and certification, and increase CWLD literacy by Islamic financial institutions, accompanied by efforts to socialize products and increase transparency and accountability of management. This study provides an important contribution to the development of a strategic framework that can strengthen the CWLD ecosystem in the higher education environment, especially in Bengkalis Regency.

Abstract

The role of the state in Islamic economics extends beyond market regulation and macroeconomic stability. From the perspective of maqasid al-shariah, the state bears a normative responsibility to ensure distributive justice, social welfare, and sustainable development. However, economic policies in many Muslim-majority countries, including Indonesia, remain largely influenced by conventional paradigms that prioritize growth and efficiency over substantive welfare outcomes. This study critically examines the gap between the ideal role of the state in Islamic economics and its implementation in Indonesia’s economic policies. Employing a qualitative library research approach, this study analyzes classical and contemporary Islamic economic literature, recent reputable journal articles, and relevant policy documents. The analysis is grounded in maqasid al-shariah, encompassing the protection of religion, life, intellect, progeny, and wealth, which are used as evaluative criteria for public policy. The findings indicate that although Indonesia has institutionalized various Islamic economic instruments—such as zakat management, waqf development, and the halal industry—these initiatives remain fragmented and largely formalistic. Maqasid al-shariah has not been fully integrated as a comprehensive framework for evaluating policy outcomes, resulting in persistent challenges such as inequality, structural poverty, and environmental degradation. This study contributes theoretically by repositioning maqasid al-shariah as a policy evaluation framework rather than merely a normative or ethical reference. Practically, it suggests that integrating maqasid-based principles into fiscal policy, market regulation, social protection, education, and sustainable development can enhance the role of the state in achieving holistic welfare in Indonesia.
