Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of student indiscipline, identify the strategies used by Guidance and Counseling (BK) teachers in handling these problems, and analyze the effectiveness of their implementation at MTs Nurul Huda Banjar Agung. The study uses a qualitative approach with observation, interview, and documentation techniques. Data analysis was conducted through reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing with validation through source triangulation. The results showed that forms of student indiscipline included tardiness, incomplete school supplies, not doing school assignments, and disorderly behavior during the learning process. The contributing factors were internal, such as low motivation to learn, and external, such as lack of parental supervision and environmental conditions. The guidance counselor's strategies included a persuasive approach, individual counseling, light assessment of student behavior, commitment to change, and cooperation with homeroom teachers and parents. These strategies proved to be quite effective because they were able to produce gradual behavioral changes through a humanistic approach and consistency in their implementation. This study emphasizes the importance of the role of guidance counselors in developing student discipline through comprehensive interventions involving various parties.

Abstract

Shyness is a common personality trait experienced by college students during the transition to early adulthood, especially when facing the demands of social interaction in the college environment. This condition can affect students' ability to communicate, participate in academic activities, and build social relationships. This study aims to understand how the social environment influences the development of shyness in college students. The method used was a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation of three students with shy tendencies. The results indicate that a less supportive social environment, such as a lack of acceptance from peers, negative interaction experiences, and minimal emotional support, can strengthen shyness in college students. Conversely, an open, supportive, and secure social environment can help students increase self-confidence and reduce shy behavior. This study emphasizes the important role of the social environment in shaping student personality development, particularly in overcoming shyness, and provides implications for colleges to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for student social development.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of slang language in shaping the identity and social acceptance of young people in the digital era. Slang, which has developed rapidly through social media, is not only used as a means of communication but has also become part of how young people express themselves, build social closeness, and demonstrate group identity. This study employed a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach. Data were collected through interviews and observations involving university students and several representatives of older generations within the campus environment. The findings indicate that the use of slang can strengthen social relationships, foster a sense of belonging, and facilitate individuals’ acceptance within friendship groups. In addition, slang functions as a medium of self-expression and a symbol of an individual’s engagement with the development of digital culture. Social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and X were found to be the primary factors driving the spread of slang vocabulary among young people. The novelty of this study lies in its discussion of the relationship between slang, social identity formation, and social acceptance through the perspective of symbolic interactionism in the context of digital communication. The findings contribute to the field of social psychology by demonstrating that language plays an important role in the processes of identity formation, social interaction, and individual acceptance within modern society.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the impact of toxic family environments on individuals’ mental health, social functioning, and personality development using a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and observations of three participants who had experienced non-harmonious family conditions, and were analyzed thematically. The findings indicate that toxic families are characterized by unhealthy communication, imbalanced parenting styles, and a lack of emotional support, which lead to anxiety, low self-esteem, difficulties in emotion regulation, and challenges in social relationships. These effects also persist in the long term, influencing individuals’ thought patterns and interpersonal relationships. However, individuals can cope with these conditions through coping strategies, self-awareness, and support from external environments; therefore, it is important to create healthier family environments to support individuals’ psychological well-being.

Abstract

Anxiety is one of the psychological factors that influences badminton athletes' performance before tournaments. Athletes often experience pressure related to performance expectations, concerns about match outcomes, and physiological reactions, yet comprehensive empirical data on athletes' anxiety levels in Jambi City remains limited. This study aimed to describe the level of anxiety of badminton athletes approaching tournaments in Jambi City based on somatic anxiety, cognitive anxiety, and self-confidence. A quantitative descriptive approach was used. The population consisted of 530 active badminton athletes registered under PBSI Jambi City, with 84 athletes selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2 Revised (CSAI-2R) Indonesian version and analyzed descriptively using SPSS version 28. Results showed that the majority of athletes were in the moderate anxiety category (59.5%), followed by the low (31.0%) and high (9.5%) categories. Somatic anxiety emerged as the most dominant aspect, indicated by physical symptoms such as body tension, rapid heartbeat, and stomach discomfort. Cognitive anxiety appeared at a moderate level, reflecting concerns about performance and outcomes, while self-confidence remained relatively stable but fluctuated according to competitive pressure. These findings provide an empirical basis for developing structured mental training programs for badminton athletes at the regional level.

Abstract

This study aims to understand how social media affects adolescents’ mental health. Today, social media has become an important part of adolescents’ daily lives, serving as a means of communication, entertainment, and self-expression. However, excessive use of social media can lead to various psychological problems such as stress, anxiety, and depression. This research uses the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method by examining several journal articles that discuss the relationship between social media use and adolescents’ mental health. From 35 articles found, only 5 journals met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed further. The results show that the influence of social media on mental health is twofold. Wise use of social media can help adolescents gain social support and increase self-confidence, while excessive use tends to decrease psychological well-being. Factors such as self-control, family support, and social environment also affect the impact experienced by adolescents. Therefore, it is important for adolescents to learn how to use social media in a balanced and responsible way to prevent negative effects on their mental health.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between Big Five personality traits and the level of mental health among university students who are active social media users. Using a literature review approach, this research examines various empirical findings concerning the influence of personality traits on digital behavior and psychological well-being. The findings indicate that neuroticism is positively correlated with higher risks of mental health issues such as anxiety, stress, and depression, primarily due to social comparison and dependence on online validation. Conversely, conscientiousness and agreeableness serve as protective factors that help individuals maintain emotional balance and manage social media use in a healthy manner. Furthermore, narcissistic tendencies are shown to exacerbate the negative effects of social media on mental health, particularly through excessive pursuit of validation and idealized self-presentation. Enhancing digital literacy and self-awareness is therefore essential for students to engage in productive and balanced digital behavior.

Abstract

Global mental health has become a crucial issue in the modern world, with WHO (2023) reporting that one in four individuals experiences a mental disorder. Divorce is among the most significant psychological stressors affecting emotional and social well-being. This study aims to analyze post-divorce coping strategies from a clinical psychology perspective and their relevance to global mental health. The method employed is a literature review of national and international publications over the past ten years. Findings indicate that adaptive coping strategies, both problem-focused and emotion-focused play a vital role in enhancing resilience and reducing the risk of mental disorders. Cross-theoretical analysis of Freud, Bowlby, Lazarus & Folkman, and Rogers reveals that post-divorce recovery involves intrapsychic dynamics, emotional attachment, cognitive adaptation, and self-acceptance. Thus, effective coping strategies constitute a significant contribution to strengthening global mental health through clinical psychology approaches that emphasize empathy and cultural sensitivity.

Abstract

Feelings of being unworthy of love are commonly experienced by university students during the transition to adulthood and are often linked to low self-acceptance arising from experiences of conditional love. This study aims to explain the application of Carl Rogers’ Humanistic principles empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness in peer counseling to support students who feel undeserving of love. The method used is a descriptive qualitative literature review of scholarly articles published between 2013-2025. The results indicate that counseling relationships grounded in empathy and unconditional positive regard are able to create a safe space for clients to express themselves without judgment, thereby fostering unconditional self-acceptance and a more positive self-view. This study offers a new perspective on the implementation of the humanistic approach in peer counseling within university settings and emphasizes the importance of empathy-based peer counselor training to strengthen mental health services for students.
