Abstract

Adjustment difficulties are issues that affect students’ ability to interact and respond effectively to the demands of the school environment. This study aims to improve the adjustment abilities of a boarding school student, referred to as JS, through a series of counseling interventions. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design involving one research participant. Data were collected through behavioral observations, several counseling sessions, and the administration of the Problem Checklist (Daftar Cek Masalah/DCM) to identify the specific issues experienced by the student. The data were analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that JS experienced adjustment difficulties characterized by hesitation in expressing opinions, susceptibility to peer pressure, and a tendency to suppress emotions. After receiving the intervention, including the application of the Empty Chair technique, JS demonstrated positive changes, such as increased confidence in expressing feelings, improved ability to set personal boundaries, and more adaptive social responses. These results indicate that the Empty Chair technique can serve as an effective intervention option for students who experience challenges in personal and social adjustment.

Abstract

Bullying in elementary schools remains a serious issue that affects students’ mental health and psychological well-being. Low mental health awareness increases the risk of students becoming perpetrators or victims of bullying. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of psychoeducation in increasing mental health awareness as a preventive effort against bullying among elementary school students. This research employed a quasi-experimental method with a One Group Pretest-Posttest design involving 24 fifth-grade students at SDN Kembangarum 02 Semarang. The intervention consisted of interactive discussions, educational videos, and reflective group activities. A written quiz assessing students’ understanding of mental health and bullying prevention served as the instrument. Results show that the data met normality and homogeneity assumptions, and there was a significant increase in students’ understanding after the psychoeducation, as indicated by a Paired Sample t-Test with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). These findings confirm that psychoeducation is effective in improving mental health awareness and can serve as a preventive strategy to reduce bullying in elementary school settings. The study recommends integrating continuous mental health education into school learning activities.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between peer social support and the adjustment of high school adolescents at SMA Negeri 8 Surakarta. This research employs a quantitative approach with a survey method to collect numerical data that can be statistically analyzed. The sample consists of 125 students from grades X to XII, selected through purposive sampling based on criteria of being active adolescents willing to participate. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed through validity, reliability, normality, and Pearson correlation tests. The results indicate a significant positive relationship between peer social support and adolescent adjustment, with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.553 (p < 0.05), which is categorized as moderate. This finding suggests that adolescents who receive higher levels of peer support tend to adapt better socially, emotionally, and academically. The study highlights the critical role of peers in facilitating adolescent adjustment and offers practical implications for schools, including the development of programs to enhance peer support, social skills training, and counseling interventions to foster psychological well-being and optimal adaptation during adolescence.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the experiences of Javanese Ngapak dialect-speaking students in forming and interpreting their social identity through interactions in the KMB Serulingmas community at UIN Walisongo. The Ngapak language is seen not only as a means of communication, but also as a symbol of origin, cultural attachment, and personal characteristics inherent to its speakers. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, this study involved students selected through purposive sampling and interviewed in depth to explore their subjective experiences. Data analysis was conducted using simple thematic analysis to identify patterns of meaning that emerged from the participants' stories. The results show that the use of Ngapak language provides a sense of comfort, closeness, and authenticity, especially when among fellow community members. Jokes about the Ngapak dialect often arise in social interactions, but are generally responded to with humor so that they do not interfere with self-acceptance. The Serulingmas community acts as a safe space that strengthens a sense of belonging, provides emotional support, and facilitates social adaptation in the campus environment. The novelty of this research lies in its emphasis on the psychological dimensions of Ngapak speakers in the context of regional communities, particularly in relation to emotional experiences, self-acceptance, and the process of identity negotiation. These findings contribute to the study of social psychology, especially in understanding the relationship between regional languages, group identity, and the dynamics of student social interaction.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of the learning environment on students’ stress levels by comparing the experiences of first-year and final-year students in facing academic demands. The background of this research highlights the high prevalence of academic stress among university students, often triggered by physical, social, and academic factors. A qualitative approach was employed through in-depth interviews with four students (two first-year and two final-year) and a psychologist as an expert informant. The findings reveal that first-year students are more vulnerable to adaptation stress caused by uncomfortable classroom conditions, ineffective online learning methods, and organizational activities, while final-year students experience completion stress related to thesis preparation, heavy workloads, and limited campus facilities. The study emphasizes that a supportive learning environment, adequate facilities, and positive academic communication can help students manage stress more adaptively. Practical recommendations include improving campus infrastructure, strengthening social support, and developing academic policies that are responsive to students’ psychological needs at different stages of study.

Understanding students’ experiences in interpreting peer social support as a form of protection against academic stress is the main focus of this study. Academic stress is viewed as psychological pressure that arise from high academic demands, excessive, workload, and expectations from lecturers and oneself to achieve optimal performance. Peer social support plays an important role in helping students adapt and manage the pressures they experience. This study employed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design to explore students’ subjective experiences in receiving and assigning meaning to peer social support. The participants consisted of 3 active students from different study programs, selected through purposive sampling based on criteria of having experienced academic stress and maintaining active social relationships with peers. Data were collected through semi structured in depth interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns and meanings within participants’ experiences. The findings reveal that peer support is perceived as emotional and social protection that helps students cope with academic pressures through empathy, tangible assistance, advice, and motivation.
